On the topic of Rance 10, I just thinking about how a possible vs the gods scenario could work out, last thread there was a little discussion about the hero and I think if the hero is a major heroine or something it might actually work out, Rance has infinite potential and the hero is supposed to get very strong when a lot of humanity is killed, together they could probably actually do something.

As someone who got it wrong, I can answer. Any conversations here about demons/dark lords are often long and drawn out, so when you're only here for stuff like SR, you'll have already scrolled to the next post by the time you see "Kayblis". While anything about a girl's rating is usually less than 1 line of text, so you can read it by accident.

I can't remember much of 2 Star, since I've only beat it once or twice but 5 Star is always seen as a different beast to the other difficulties. I've once heard it said that 5 Star is the difficulty where you need to rely on gimmicks to survive, there's certainly some truth to that.

Remember when you could use Ninjas for actual damage dealing? That's not happening any more.
Remember when you could win battle without any Footsoldiers? That's not happening any more.
Remember when you could go into a battle planning to annihilate the entire enemy force? Unless you've got an ace team, or you're that anon that exploits Battle Prep, that's not happening any more.

As someone who's beat every route on 5 Star no bonus however, I'm not sure if I'm totally qualified or totally unqualified to say this, but in my opinion. Outside of some very specific situations 5 Star isn't difficult - it's just different. Once you're used to it, there's very few parts of the game that you'll actually call difficult. I'm more or less of the belief that if you know what you're doing and play intelligently - as soon as you've got Isoroku, the game's no longer difficult.

While I think 170 beats my record, you should know that 82 turns for KTM is pretty bad. The world record is 23 or 24 turns.

Finally, I did some tests on Omachi. Two threads ago, I said that if she has 2k troops, she should peak at around 2.7k damage in a battle where she has a 10% disadvantage. In tests however, the highest I got her to against the Demon Army wad 2,243 while she averaged 2k damage even when she had a 50% Int buff and a 5% Battlefield Effect advantage, so overall, I'd say it's fair to say that a 2k troop Omachi will average 2k damage in the late game (even though castle battles will actually drop that figure down to about 1.5k).

What does this mean? Well, if we go with my previously generous (for Omachi's sake) figure of the enemy units having an average of 6k troop size, Natori wins. Natori will do 1.8k damage to the enemy units sooner than Omachi will, and since optimal play can be assumed, Dousan will be their to support her. Removing Natori's main issue.

Now to do this properly.

Here's an interesting find, pic related. I've only tested this once, and the difference was only a matter of one or two moves in both cases but as pic related demonstrates, Omachi can move and fire before Natori. However as the difference is so minor, I can't see this changing anything.

On the subject of Dousan, I should also mention that she's not a hindrance - by the assumption of optimal play, Kenshin and Uruza's move eating will have you covered.

So, what do I have in the end?

Provided that you bring a really good Tactician, Omachi and Natori will both do about the same damage in about the same time. Omachi doesn't like losing her troops, being at a Battle Effect disadvantage or being hit by a swarm of Ninjas. While Natori only minds the Ninjas and not having Dousan around, she also gets hurt a bit if she can't use all of her turns, since the Dousan+Natori combo takes up a good amount but the same could be said of a lesser degree about Omachi. I should also point out that Omachi prefers low enemy troops counts while Natori wants high, but that's a minor point. Regardless, everything in this paragraph bar the Battlefield Effect is defeated by the optimal play assumption.

I should also note that even if Dousan and Natori sync badly (which hardly ever happens in my experience, particularly if Natori is on 9 Spd), you're usually safe just getting an extra Accurate Shot off with Uruza. So that's not an issue either.

There is one thing that stands out in my mind however, what do you do if Omachi doesn't get a random Int buff at the start of the battle? In that case, she'll clearly perform worse than Natori.

Does that end it?
Am I wrong to conclude that Omachi and Natori are equal if the buffs go right, but Natori wins if they go wrong, making Natori the overall winner?

Fair point, but where does that matter? If you've got Omachi, you've got Permits, so you have no reason to not be using her more or less exclusively for castles, in which you ought to have as good a team as you can get.

Besides, lets consider a typical team for Omachi.

+2 other spaces, used as you please. Probably Kenshin and Uruza. While for Natori, you can afford to cut the Tactician in favour of Dousan.

Well, points are the only way to decide which strategy is better, otherwise everything is equal as long as it doesn't cause you to lose. Didn't know that you can beat Orochi without a lot of leveling though.

Depending on the route you may lose access to permits, and it would come into play late game where she is relevant. Also the fact you still have defense battle which can appear anywhere technically, unless you save scum no defense battles or don't defend.

While nice, tacticians aren't needed nearly as much outside of castle scenarios. In castle scenarios, you'd likely use a Natori team anyway hence why I said Natori is better at efficiency. She ignores defense and castle teams are always huge. Tacticians are also invaluable in general, versus Monks who you only use for Natori or a bonus character Matsu if you can afford him.

My point is she needs less support. The fact she comes at the very end doesn't mean her boon isn't a boon anymore. I mean yes, in castle matches you need your best teams, but they are not the matches you ever fight.

Using points as a metric for how good your strategy is is dangerous. All the world record points runners do some epic savescumming (e.g. the actual world record run is impossible if the hot spring spawns in Iga's place), and I doubt we'd agree that a run that requires savescumming is better than one that doesn't.

If you save scum optimal fights, Kentarou is enough. In normal play though, you might need potentially 4, or in extremely rare cases 5 defenses. If they attack your land hard enough, and RNG can, you'll have to defend. Depending on the providence, potential more than once if it's a very small one.

So because you got to Omachi with a, presumably a top tier team for non-castle battles, Omachi has no utility? Even though she can easily fit on just about any team non-castle team and make it even better? It sounds more like you're just trying to say Omachi is irrelevant in the grand scheme. It confuses me that you worry about these. As you've said, the Tacticians and Mikos aren't an issue, but for the Cavarly I'll just say that for one, Takeda should already be beat by the time you've got Omachi and two, you're probably doing something wrong if you've got Omachi, but are fighting a non-castle Takeda battle (your Permits should put in all of the work). As for the Ninjas, they won't deliberately target Omachi until she's preping, which should happen after the first barrage of Ninjas attack, and should be soon followed by your Foot reapplying their guard. I'm just listing heavy ranged attackers that could potential eat through ELG. On a KTM route, you'll still deal with Ninjas and Calvary at any point even after iga and takeda drop. On Demon Army, you have potentially those magic-all attackers. They generally don't go off first, but if they have a diviner pairing you have to remove the shield potentially and omachi struggles with that. Diviner covers her, and still leaves room for an offensive attacker to remove said shield so Omachi can cripple it.

ES is neat, but that's pretty much the best I could say about it.

good music, some characters are well designed, it was fairly enjoyable, albeit a bit drawn out as by the time I was nearing the end it was a bit of a slog to get to the ending.

also was very disappointed in which girls had h-scenes and which didn't. with almost every character being a girl and the whole draw being to fuck famous historical figures, they should've at least all had one.

I heard gold improves it a lot. Have it installed but only got through a quarter of it before put it on my backlog.

can't rate a game I shelf mid-game too highly, but it might get better later on.

SR plays better, and has way better CGs . ES only really has voices going for it, oh and I guess is more historical fitting since SR's JAPAN is very different.

A bit late and like everyone above I agree that SR is a much better game than ES but it's not like ES is a terrible game. It's flawed in many ways but I still had fun playing it since it's a world conquest game and it was entertaining to see what kind of an anime girl cliche they would choose to turn one historical figure or another.

Does anyone have the full-body portrait of Rizna in 5D? I know Copandon, Rance and Sill do, so Rizna should have one as well.
