From the beginning Starbound was always billed as "Terraria in Space" whether the development team wanted it to due to the lead's prior involvement with the game.

I'm actually willing to bet they actively tried to distance themselves from Terraria by not incorporating certain game elements from it, like coherent and varied enemy and weapon types, chest autosorting, intelligent autodetection of placing/mining blocks, maps, and basically everything else that makes Terraria a good game.

At this point I think the best possible thing to happen to the game is if they hand future development off to a completely different team and move on to some other half-baked concept to completely fail to deliver on.

I set the ship to dungeonmode so nothing can be destroyed, but the issue with dungeonmode is that doors and containers aren't protected. I didn't feel like having to pop open Admin and Debug and then break through a wall every time I wanted to get to important storage, so I put a teleporter in the bedroom. Dramatic Planet Modification: Ability for players to modify huge chunks of planets through things like orbital bombardment; removing the entire first layer of a planet and leave behind a lifeless surface.
Tech Priority: Eventually all techs can be active at once, but a categorization system is in the works to assign priority to conflicting techs, preventing issues. A hotkey to switch the active tech will be added as a temporary workaround until the priority system is completed.

I kinda wish there was more variety in the planet orbit/amount in solar systems.
At the moment Gas Giants always contain maybe 2 or 3 planets or moons tops, regular planets will have two moons at the most,and if you are lucky there might be a lone asteroid cluster somewhere in the solar system hanging out by itself away from the other planets in the system
