KT localizes tons of niche games that would sell less than any DOAX game. For example, any one of the Atelier Plus games on Vita sells very little. There's also games like Ar nosurge, Nobunaga's Ambition, every single Warriors and Dynasty Warriors spinoff that have limited audience. DOAX3 would sell more than a lot of those games.

Secondly, DOAX3 was already localized into English, it just wasn't dubbed. So they already went through the costs of translating the game and programming three languages. They just didn't publish it to other regions

My guess is that KT US or KT Europe didn't want to deal with the reputation hit for releasing such a game and get hit with news articles for releasing a misogynistic game. They're cowards afraid of some bad press, in other words.

Why can't our localization companies do simultaneous localisations when Sony Asia can do it?

Several weapons gain rustproof properties upon leveling up, you can use mixers or fusion pots to fuse them and they'll gain it (just remember the base weapon goes in first).

The problems with RF4 and SoS come down to Nintendo being much more strict than Sony. With regards to RF4, the developer is defunct and Nintendo requires some programming changes to be made for the European retail release and XSEED doesn't have the capability to do it.

Senran Kagura is created by their parent company so they have significantly less issues with getting them to do work to support their localizations.

The RF4 case I can understand since Neverland went bankrupt in the middle of things (which sucked big time, by the way, they never got to make any RF game for Vita), but still they managed to use the US version as a base and release it digitally, so... does the retail release need some extra stuff done that requires the original company to still be present? It just baffles me how Aksys has managed to strike publishing deals for games that weren't really all that hyped anywhere, and seeing how they (presumably) weren't worth the effort they drop the ball with a game like ZTD. That was one of the most hyped Vita releases I've seen this year. Shiren I can kind of understand, being a part of a series that had next to none exposure outside Japan beforehand. At least the US guys had that Wii Shiren game in addition to the DS one, but maybe that isn't really the best game to note in this regard.

A little while back these sorts of releases were kind of a norm, a thing to be expected, but during the last few years with LRG and IFI stepping up their game seeing digital-only releases even from a company like Scamco Bandai (fucking Cyber Sleuth I swear) with cases like God Eater 2 in the US indicates that they just don't care enough to trust the Vita userbase. Or don't have any idea about the usual problems and preferences Vita users have when it comes to games. At least with Scamco the door swings and hits in the face both ways.

Sony explicitly adopted a policy for the PS4 where digital games are exactly the same contents as the physical game to simplify certification. I'm sure they had processes for the Vita to accomplish something similar. Nintendo is more backwards and does not handle their physical/digital games the same way.

No guide necessary. Take weapon, mix weapon with another weapon to get the ability on the 'another' weapon.

With synthesis jars and mixers, ALWAYS put the item you want to keep first. Until you get gold and can mix that into a weapon you care about, never take weapons you care about. Gold weapons and shields get rustproof, you see, and finding them is infinitely more easier than finding rustproof scrolls or the NPC.

How do you think the western releases for both Project X Zone games came about? Those games would have normally been licensing hells not worth the effort, but when the first game bombed in Japan it somehow magically wasn't problematic at all to get the game to be released in here. Well, PQube is a UK/European company so they kind of have to release the games for the European market. I think there's more barriers due to different country's regulations like Germany and Australia having its own rating system. That adds a lot to the cost and can delay the game's production schedule if anything goes wrong. NA seems a lot easier because they just have to deal with ESRB and there's less risk of country-specific regulations in general.

PQube seems to sell their games to a limited amount of retailers which reduces their costs (but also exposure) significantly, while companies like Namco or KT have way larger distribution networks in each of the EU countries. This is true for USA too, since they only stock on Amazon rather than shipping copies of games to all of the 1000's of Gamestops around the country.

Also, I don't think the games sell more in EU in general than NA too. So increased costs and smaller market is probably why most localization companies which are in the US don't try very hard.

PQube knows that their audience is niche, and they act accordingly while keeping in touch with their fans. I wish more companies understood these things. I think Germany especially should step up their game and start getting rid of that USK thing, a whole separate rating process that makes things difficult for everyone. Many great game boxes have been ruined by that fucking thing blocking 20% of the boxart, at worst, and in Nintendo's games' case that thing is in every EU limited edition copy. Sucks big time.

A couple of years ago it was perfectly viable to just release UK versions of a game and sell it in every country, why the hell did that have to change? It's like some countries just recently started to bitch about not having every game in their native language, and somehow it turned out to, once again, make things difficult for everyone else. Limited physical releases with pre-order campaigns would be the perfect solution for lots of companies to gauge interest with any possible release they could do, it's a shame we have seen that like twice and not since, despite both of them being successes.

And that thing about games not selling as much in EU when compared to the US, can't argue with that. Somehow many companies just manage to release the games equally well, while others don't for reasons unknown. Really sucks to see how I've tried to suggest different approaches to some of them for two years now, but only Atlus has been fair enough to actually discuss the EU situation in more detail.

Seems like PQube only got into this localization business recently, so they should have a lot of room to grow. I know they did some Blazblue stuff before but that wasn't very notable.

Inti Creates was shopping around for a publisher for Gal Gun in 2015 and it's great that PQube stepped up and handled the release perfectly. Steins;Gate did well on consoles and I hope they've made enough money to acquire some good licenses. The only problem is that a lot of franchises are tied up due to pre-existing business relationships.

Fan translations will never come anywhere close to what commercial localizers release. PSP fan TLs have been available forever and only a few games have been translated.

The PS3 did a pretty good job at curbing mainstream piracy during it's active lifecycle. Lots of bans during that time with people getting their entire accounts compromised.

What was the deal with the Nonary bracelet in Shiren LE? The thing looks really inconvenient outside some cosplay, why make something like that that pretty much only the most hardcore weebs would want to wear in public? Or did they just want to make it because Zero Escape or something? The LE would have been no-brainer, had the bracelet been omitted and the price being changed accordingly.

If only even the tufts looked like that in the actual product but no, they spread all over the place and look stupid. It just feels like one of the items Gaijinworks would put in their LEs, something different just for the sake of being different and not because it would actually be cool to have.

From what i read online is that you should not take all the item when you harvest so that they will turn into seeds later. Wholesale them asap seems to be the failproof way tho.

Anyways, yes Shiren is a fun game. If you enjoyed Chocobo's Dungeon you'll enjoy Shiren. Can't really compare it to Azure dreams as it was made by a different company. The game boy one focused on the gameplay while the Ps1 had more emphasis on the social element, so there's a difference but both of their dungeon spelunking mechanics was only as deep as the monsters.

Dungeons and item/equipment importance are about as strong as they are in chocobo's dungeon, sans the ability to have your level carry over (ignoring equipment level) and the obsessive need to collect the random-summon feather that didn't go away when you used it to summon.
No waifuing in this game. Well the fox twins are. If you level up the sword OR shield that one of the twins can turn into the flavor text is really endearing "it hurts by I'll endure it for you" and "I really want to be useful to you"

In general, if you have a strong affinity for Chocobo's Dungeon (2) then you'll love Shiren the Wanderer 5 plus. If you beat any of the post game in Chocobo's Dungeon (2) then even more so.
