As much as I love the Nightmare on Elm Street stuff where Freddy kills a kid via Nintendo, the series definitely got more campy, which I think was to its detriment.

That was the fate of all horror originating in the 80s, though: it devolved into camp.

Puppet Master, Wishmaster, Evil Dead, etc. Friday the 13th too with Jason X (if you don't think that was camp, lol). And the less said about the Hellraiser sequels beyond the first one, the better.

The fall from horror to camp in 80s horror franchises parallels Ghostquest pretty well, actually.

I think it's just an inevitability when it comes to horror. You see the first thing, it's creepy and scary and icky. But since you've seen it, anything similar that comes along later won't have as much of an affect, which is they they get more and move over the top to outdo the previous installment.

An excellent example is the Jaws films.

Jaws is primal horror of the ocean and the giant predator lurking in it, though the shark remains a simple animal operating on hunger.
Jaws 2 gives the shark facial burns to try to make it scarier, and it also spends much of the movie as a wraith to Chief Brody until it targets helpless teenagers in a proto-slasher style.
Jaws III moves the setting to Sea World and has a gigantic 35-foot shark, nearly twice the size of the previous sharks, so that many more people will be menaced by an impossibly-large monster.
Jaws The Revenge gives us a 35-foot shark that is specifically targeting the Brody family for vengeance against its slain fellows, which has a psychic link with Ellen Brody and can swim from Amity to the Bahamas in less than three days.

Exactly. Horror works best as a stand-alone. Lots of horror movies that have only one installment - Rawhead Rex, Pumpkinhead, Razorback, Monkey Shines, for examples - are very effective horror films because they use their monster and premise only once. While horror movies that have sequels - NOES, Ft13, Jaws, Piranha, Child's Play, Ghoulies, Puppet Master, etc - start getting silly, stupid, outlandish, or repetitive in the sequels because they have to make the same monster/situation try to remain scary even after they've repeatedly been defeated. It's also why resident villains always tend to decay in TV shows and film series, since the good guys need to win most of the time the bad guys get beaten over and over again and lose whatever menace they had before.

Yes, please. My biggest complaint about what FNAF has become, even more so than the emphasis on jumpscares or hasty releases, is that it's lost it's that unknown element to it's horror. Now that it's confirmed that the ghosts of murdered children are to blame for the scary happenings, a pretty common and very shit plot by the way, there's no fear of the unknown. You know exactly what is going on, and it is not particularly interesting or original; angry ghosts are possessing physical constructs.

Sure, you can argue back and forth on different little mysteries like how many bites there were the life and times of the purple guy and all sorts of other miscellaneous shit, but the core mystery of the game's lore that got me hooked on the series back in FNAF 1; "what is wrong with the animatronics", is clearly spelled out, with a very underwhelming answer, and has thus lost that unknown element that made them so intriguing and horrifying before.

Even if Scott does continue with the "it's all just ghosts" shit, there's still a lot he can do with that. If he explores it a bit more, has an interesting take on it, he could possibly make the ghost angle interesting. Plus there is the puppet, I don't think much has been confirmed on what exactly that is or it's role in the creation of the animatronics. There's still some room in the lore for Scott to experiment and try to make something interesting.

But it's fairly clear that he won't experiment. He hasn't changed it up very much since the original, and this one straight up tells you on the screenshots that it's the same "look around press shit" format. All of his "lore" since the first has a haphazardly slapped together feel to it because little makes sense and a lot questions the validity of what was previously stated. And if the book is any more reason to say it, Scott can't edit. That's why the stories in his games are completely awful.

The reason you came to Freddy's at first was because it was the only fresh concept in the horror genre in a long time. And now it's stale because he oversaturated his own market.

First of all, the design of the new animatronics:
Baby is an unholy mix between a kid, a porcelain doll, and a clown.
Ballora is a human ballerina animatronic.
They don't rely on four different sets of knife-toothed jaws, or big red fiery eyes of doom. They just look like creepy robots.
Their (and especially Ballora's) almost human appearance, coupled with the jerky, robotic (a very important detail) movements plays on the Uncanny Valley perfectly, just like FNaF did so many ages ago, as it played upon the instictual uneasiness many felt when looking at a Chuck E. Cheese's animatronic.

The Funtimes are more of a FNaF 2 case: They play upon the "scary perfection" thing, they're just big girly animal dolls, all clean and colorful, prim and proper, but that clashes real hard with the obvious artificialness of their movements.
Then you get a glimpse underneath the fimsy pink plastic shells, and bam, you get a view of the murderous, robotic interior. Just a glimpse, of course, as the face-plates close again, in less than a second.
It's a neat concept.

Then there's shit like Ennard, a bizarre fucking tentacle monster, which once again display's Scott's pulsating boner for over-designed robots.
While he looks dope as fuck, and does bring fond memories of TDH, he really doesn't fit with the entire "spooky pizzeria animatronics" theme.
But FNaF has abandoned that theme a good while ago, I guess.

Now, all of this really is a matter of opinion, of course. What kind of "horror" you prefer, really.
If you ask a child what's scarier, he'll probably point to the big toothy nightmare monsters. So there's that.

I don't really remember how old I was when this happened to me, but it was several years ago back when I used to live in Newark, New Jersey. I use to live in this little red and white house at the corner of my street, but other than that there's not a lot I can really remember about that house other than the weird freaky dreams I would have.

A lot of my dreams always had this common setup; I'm either being dangled high above my body and eventually fall back into myself, or I'm falling from someplace high. These dreams always felt so strange at the time as I would actually feel like I really was falling.

There were also a lot of weird little things that would happen to me and my family at that house, like my youngest brother becoming almost deathly ill and remaining like that until we eventually moved, suddenly waking up at night feeling scared, but never knowing why, and generally a whole lot of weird creepy occurrences.

But there was one event that happened at that house that has since then scarred me as a kid, and is the main reason I now believe in the supernatural.

I think falling of dreaming or experiencing the sensation of falling while dreaming is a common thing. I know I've certainly had it a few times.
