There is an entire JUTSU specifically based around bringing people back from the Pure Land. The jutsu itself is called Impure World Reincarnation. Tobirama certainly knew there was an afterlife, and more importantly, HOW TO CALL SOULS BACK FROM THERE, AND TETHER THEM TO A CORPSE. That's metal as fuck. However, both Orochimaru and Kabuto knew how to do it, Obito knew of it, Hiruzen knew of it, Madara somehow knew how to reapply it to HIMSELF after Kabuto was forced to release it. A TON of people knew there was a confirmed afterlife - and Obito was even one of them!

Edo Tensei and Rinne Tensei are similar but different. And Edo Tensei has no time span - Orochimaru was able to summon Hashirama and Tobirama, and they died long before Rin.

Rinne Tensei also seems to have no time limit, since it revived Madara to true life as well, despite him dying around the same time as Hashirama the first time, and around the same time as Rin the second time.

Obito could've had Rin back in like a week after Madara died, two weeks tops.
