So I just started playing my first MH game (Freedom Unite on PSP) and I'm getting pretty into it. Lots of tutorial missions which I like. Just finished up with them and ready to start on the main missions. Should I keep investing time in it or just get Generations? I have a friend who can play FU with me and is just getting into it as well but I don't have another friend with a 3DS.

you a new player? dreadqueen rathian is a deviant of a rathian. her full set is perfect for status weapons, but it takes a while to actually get one of the status inducing skills (it has two: crit status and status atk+2 <- this one is locked) since you only unlock it once you upgrade it enough (lvl 6). for now, just go for a standard blademaster set then go for dreadqueen once you are able to if you really want it.

MHFU seems to have an assload of content but how much of it is actually good? I can probably get over missing the QoL changes that I'll be missing but I don't want to trudge through shit.

If you're talking about the Village quest, it's a lot easier than you think. Their health is all massively reduced and their attacks do bugger all.

It depends weapon type and sharpness values before and after S+1/2.

Heavenly Sunshine is the GS i'm using and if it had S+2 can get up to white, but I run bludgeoner instead because its natural sharpness is 5 hits till green.

I like having 5 hits of blue then getting a AuM, makes me feel like I get increasingly stronger in the hunt.

Just beat LR nakarkos. Was that it?
At first I though I would get my ass kicked because I was soloing and went in completely blind, but it only has like 3 moves: a charge, a blue laser that is really just a huge opening, and blowing fucking everything to shit. He pretty much just moved around doing no damage then said "fuck this" and left 28 minutes in. That was the most underwhelming fight I have ever experienced and my only expectation going in was dalamadur 2

Dreadqueen, Hellblade, and Redhelm demonstrate perfectly how a Deviant should be handled

I would put Grimclaw, Thunderlord, and Silverwind up there but their greatest flaw is a lack of new animations despite having incredibly thought out attack patterns.

Drilltusk and Stonefist I would like more but they suffer from blatant design flaws.
Drilltusk spends too much of it's time trying to damage you with nudging and Stonefist has the outright stupidest stagger points to the point where you can head-lock it with low rank equipment

Deadeye wasn't given enough time and doesn't feel like it is pushing my shit in unlike 4U's normal Yian Garuga.

Depends the weapon, even with S+2, HS doesn't get much time in white.
I'd rather keep my AuM and 10% bonus from Airborne. Running Crit Draw, AuS, Airborne and Bludgeoner is the same as AuL, CritDraw and Airborne.
240 + 20 is 260 + 10% is 286.
240 + 20% is 264 + 10% is 290. The only way for me to fit this set is with Esurient R pieces that aren't obtainable yet.
Even so, the damage seems pretty even and works with my hunting style.

Absolute Evasion is stupid on it because it's a fast sheathe + evade whilst Absolute Readiness sharpens but leaves you unsheathed.

Lion's Maw is pretty nice overall as it's like an uncharged attack that sheathes and boosts your next attack's power. Brimstone Slash and Ground Slash are more subjective as the former is a counter-attack and the other a two-hit running attack, I find them not as consistent but they can help mix it up.

Online you should be exclusively using the double vertical X attacks so you don't trip people. The second A attack, the double sweep has the higher mv value but it also animation locks you. Also striker gets more mv overall so it evens out.

I eventually got cautious after I'd knocked him over a couple times and only full on stopped once to check for limping twice before I was right and could go in for the cap.
It also helps if you look for an unfinished kill quest to do first so you have a better idea of how much of a beating the monster can take.

I'll cut the tail as a DB only after the monster's tripped, with the exception being windows where they slam their tail down and leave it vulnerable for a while (Astalos, the Nargas and Glavenus are examples)
I leave the head alone if there's a Greatsword, impact weapon or Switch Axe, otherwise I'll hit that whenever. I can get all break rewards solo, and it's fairly easy to get them in a group.
