Well, I took some of the source code from SGM and made my own LUA based spawner for CoC, which makes it so you can have things spawn on every game without needing to edit the all.spawn, only compatible with 1.3.20 since it modifies bind_stalker.script. (Ill make a 1.4 Beta patch sometime relatively soon) It's also only a framework, this is mainly for modders and people making fetch quests and the like at the moment, until i start removing all the spawns out of the all.spawn.
(Just updated to no longer require edits to the _g.script and has a compatibility patch with http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl/addons/hud-overlay-with-breathing-sound)

You're not supposed to be able to kill controllers without a good rifle, helmet/suit with good psy protection and HP rounds.

There is a good idea somewhere in there, because I've killed controllers and Chimeras with nothing but the double-barrel shotgun a coat and a grenade or two. They completely botched the execution though.

Got you covered, ran into this myself just a couple days back.

Through trial and error I determined that CoC wants the files without the g in the name; change the names to nightvision_1.ppe etc etc and throw them in the Anim folder and your shit is golden.

It's a bit easy is all. Controllers and Chimeras are supposed to be legendary beasts that you only experienced hunters go after when well-armed and a team of other veteran hunters.

Despite that I can bum rush the controller in Zaton with the real starting gear, leather jacket and sawn-off. You can also easily snipe them because they have no long-range attack. I don't like them being bullet sponges. But they should give Controllers a squad of heavily armed zombies around them for example and spawn them indoors where they can use their powers better.

Don't know what you could do about the Chimeras other than more damage and armor though.

This. Misery is a 95% solution; the last 5% is for unfucker style mods and personal taste, but goddamn does it need it.

Working knowledge of what's kept where in CoP's ltx files and 15 minutes in Notepad++ turns Misery from a 6/10 to a 9/10.

The only thing i really change much is the stamina/weight system. Making sprinting take less stamina, increasing speed slightly, and lowering the weights of certain items (particularly artifact containers).
Other than annoying anomalies and the nerfs to artifacts, stamina is my big issue with Misery.

The mod is only hard when your gear is trash. Once you get mid-tier stuff it's not a big deal.

Artifacts are one of the worst sticking points, there's more wrong with them in Misery than not. I like the container system but good christ the statistics relating to the artifacts themselves are so batshit (price, function, penalties, weight, rarity) I can hardly believe they escaped the testing lab.

Yeah, artifacts are way too heavy to really be worth carrying, especially adding in the container weight. At least they added in those items that go in artifact slots. If they weren't heavy as fuck maybe i'd give them a try, but combining the weight with the negative effects basically means i'm never using them.

It's probably because certain areas/missions are almost locked behind a gear requirement. You'll need certain anomaly protections to get even close to some objectives. It's not as sever e with human enemies, though.

I think that sums up the big reason why people dislike Misery. If you like having to grind for gear so be ready for a mission, you'll probably enjoy that aspect. If you find the restrictions annoying and frustrating, you'll hate Misery.

Personally, I'm somewhere in the middle. I really like the economy of the mod, and the gunplay is decent (guns don't look so good, though) and grinding for money in Stalker is really fun for me. Of course, the issues stamina, artifacts etc. bother me as well.

The /k/ in me loves the squalid slav hobo phase Misery tries to force on you for as long as possible. It starts losing its edge once you begin figuring out the tricks and such, and self-limitation only keeps it up for so long though.

I enjoy hobo phases in games personally, but design decisions like headshot nerfs, worthless artifacts and balancing are disgusting.

There are nice things about it, like how medkits work. But at the same time, they implemented those injectors, and made both pretty common mid game so the medkits get almost completely replaced by them. I only had to buy a few when starting out - so much for resource pressure.

I found the increased anomaly damage to be great, but even after increasing the risks they made artifacts useless and worth nothing.

The hobo phase is poorly designed, too. Instead of those rusty variants, most rookies should be sporting the small AKs, SKS, mosin, TOZ and similar stuff. Most things sell of pennies . The vendors have tons of shit in stock, but everything is incredibly expensive. After a while you realize there isn't an actual shortage of things, just insane pricing.

Wounding them to the ground is the more consistent way, but you can also spook them into giving up outright based on them being alone, damaged, and by just shitting fire in their direction even if they aren't being hit.

Either way, the "Here's a medkit, but I'm taking your weapon" option is guaranteed to acquire their rifle and pistol at 100% condition as opposed to the threat option which feels like it works 1/3 of the time or less.

Since Misery balances itself money and gear-wise almost entirely around not being able to loot high enough condition gear to sell properly, stealing pristine mid-high level rifle/pistol pairs off mercs blows the economy a new asshole instantly.

The prices don't make sense, is what I meant. I don't see any reason why people would sell stuff at such prices if their stock encompasses a fifth of the zone. I don't mind the pricing itself, but I think they overestimated the amount of cash people would spend at vendors. Not only do you get a lot of supplies from stashes and bodies later on, vendors themselves show that the scarcity is a myth. From their advertisement I imagined that I'd no longer chug supplies like before, but that only holds true when starting out.

I do agree that the passive damage from anomalies is a bit much when well geared, especially the damage to equipment. It's logical, considering what they were trying to make, but considering the artifacts are worthless one only enters anomalies for some easy cash when you're well geared. There are better ways to make money, which is sad - we're playing stalker after all.

The mutants were fine for me, except for their spongyness (same as any other enemy) and the shitty ringing sound from controllers/poltergeists.

Well, the bloating continues.

More consumables, other than the corn can and cigarette box, everything is already in the gamefiles, so it wasn't so bad.

Traders sell the new items in freeplay, you can trade them with traders that don't import them for extra shekels.

They all have have an improvement over vanilla consumables in the weight/benefits ratio.

The cigs are harmful to your stamina and health, but help with drunkness and radiation posoning. But you need to smoke the whole box in order to really feel it.

I had some old "realism" mods that broke the silencers down like this, and I figured, why the fuck no?

If you notice, I left the default silencer icon alone up there so that I can switch between vanilla weapons and my weapon mod at any point.

You can find a couple of 9x18, 9x19 and 5.56x45 silencers in normal gameplay, but otherwise you have to buy them from traders.

Still have not tweaked the weights and prices, though.

then paste the contents of the beta patch _bin folder over your coc _bin folder, and then use the "vanilla" gamedata folder from the 1.4 beta

then install stcop WITHOUT the config and script folders

then install the patch for stcop included with the 1.4 beta

then install item soup over all that.

Either way, it'd need a more complex radiation system then what Stalker actually has. IMO, a sort of "radiation threshold" would be a better idea, as in you're protected up to a certain radiation level by your gear before you start getting affected by it. Or making radiation harder to get rid of.

Idk, I'm no game designer but it'd have to have some new mechanics to make it work.

My entire idea with the radiation being everywhere was that the strength of the radiation would increase as you got closer to origin of the blast. And using real math, inverse square law meaning that the radiation decreases by 1/4. This would make it so that radiation isn't immediately dangerous and would be something you would have to keep track of. And I'm going to include something like a radiation threshold that the suits would be capable of protection against, this would make it so that the player can still explore dangerous places but the risk is higher then if he got a better suit.

My game rarely crashes unless it's something specific (had a save that would always crash when getting into the monolith control center but reverted back to an old one and it's been fine) or getting into truck cemetery; random crashes are pretty rare for me, I have maybe 2 a week.
