Funny how what you said literally describes Shallie, which has no time limit, so you can even make ultimate equipment in the first playthrough and literally steam roll the second playthrough. If you can actually do the management, you can do most game without going to new game+. Totori is probably quite hard, but still doable. But obviously you're too stupid to be able to do the management well.

I never claimed that multiple playthroughs were necessary in order "to beat" an atelier game. I said, quite explicitly, "if you wanted to play the game more, you'd eventually have to go through a new game+ cycle." This seems to be difficult for you to understand, so I'll try to break it down for you. Some people like games. Some people like games so much that they continue to play them after the beat all the bosses once.

But, If that game regularly forces you to replay it from beginning, it might be different. Most people dislike having gameplay arbitrarily limited every so often.

To provide an example, I have a plat for Sophie. Because I like Sophie, I sometimes load it up and play it for a while. Whenever I play Sophie, I can fight any boss I want, visit any field I want, or synthesize any recipe I want.

I also have a plat for Meruru+. I really like Meruru+. However, I don't really load it up and play it any more. Part of it is simply age, I suppose - it came out a while ago. But another consideration is the fact that I can't load up my game and enjoy myself. Because of the time management system, if I want to play, I'll eventually have to go through large sections of the game in which where I can go, who I can fight, and what I can make are severely limited. I don't like that.

Because the efficiency of time usage seems to be so important to you, I can see why you would be frustrated over atelier's apparent change away from that system. I don't think the time management system was without value myself - it was, as I said, a noteworthy balancing factor. However, if doing away with that system allows me more freedom to enjoy the game - which it seems to have done - then I am okay with that trade. It's fine to disagree, but the notion that you are somehow more hardcore and intelligent as a result of your disagreement is absurd and obnoxious.

You can do things and not save the game. At that point, nothing you do is "progress", you just want to experience doing something in the game, in which case you don't need to save. Just go fight a boss and turn off the game. That's what I did with Meruru. And Ayesha+ has a feature where you can fight a boss from your Atelier, no time passes at all.

As I have repeatedly said, there are plenty of other games that do that. If that's what you want, go play those. On the contrary, there aren't many games like the time limited Atelier. Wanting it to be just like any other JRPG taking away one of the aspects that made it unique from the original fans who liked that aspect just because you don't like that is a very selfish desire.

As a note, I have been shilling Sophie ever since its Japan release. If you ever read posts on vitagen recommending Sophie on its Japan release, many of those were probably me. It was a non-time limited Atelier done right, unlike Shallie, its predecessor. Still, the time management is something quite unique to the series, something rarely found in other games, so no matter how good they make a non-time limited Atelier, I will still prefer having a time limited one. Why else do you think Iris and MK series sold so bad in Japan?

The only people I see complaining about the time limit after Arland are people who are somewhat interested by the serie but just don't want the time limit while long time fans agree without a time limit it just become a more generic JRPG.

Ignoring a discussion on what even makes an RPG, I don't think "Just another RPG" has been a plausible statement since the onset of the Seventh Generation bro. Actually even if you wanted to compare that phrase to the 5th generation you'd be sorely lacking in locating a staple to attach the phrase "generic". I recognize that I do things and not save the game. The post you were replying to had a part about save games, which I had to remove because of post character limit. In short, my point is that it's much more fun if I can do things and save the game, because that allows me to be more creative for a longer period of time in a game in which experimentation is such a large part. As an aside, The Ayesha+ boss feature that you mentioned is great, but only partially addresses my complaint.

I also recognize that other games have a longer tradition of allowing for more freedom. However, I feel like time management is hardly the sole differentiating factor between atelier and many other JRPGs. Even without the time management, Atelier is relatively distinct.

It's unfair to claim that I'm being selfish because I favor a system that you do not. Like any change, some people will like it, and some will not. The fact that you do not does not mean that your position is more legitimate. I'm not the only one of the Atelier series fans who enjoys the change.

As I said before, I respect your position in regards to the importance of time management. For me, however, it is not so central to the series that I couldn't do without it. I'm interested to see how Firis implements the proposed time managed to free-mode split, but, from what I've picked up on, that compromise won't suffice for you, will it?

Not sure I'm all too crazy of the OVAs for it though, but they're worth a watch and such.

I don't have nearly as much disdain for those as I do the movie for Nadesico. That tonal shift from the series to that will always make me angry. Added the to the fact we never got the book that came out before that film, and the game that followed the movie as well. But, at the end of the day, I think I'm find with missing out on those.

Every time you kill an enemy you get hidden points. When the points reach a certain amount, you enter pre-super, and then super.

Every time something bad happens (ailment, hungry, step on a trap) you lose points. You also slowly lose points with time and going down stairs.

If you continue to build points, you get random stat buffs, your attacks start doing shit like berserk and bind, and you'll even get a super-long growth status that lasts way longer than the seed

It doesn't matter much for easy dungeons like the story, but for harder dungeons you want to preserve it as much as possible, because the benefits are huge and getting it back once you've lost it becomes increasingly difficult.

You haven't looked around the first town anon. Go down to the point shop and get your points card. That card will then become the most important thing in your inventory. Points are assigned to you but that card is the only way you can accumulate them.

You turn in points in the point shop for items. The most important of which while you're starting out is the Undo Herb, which is your "fuck up assurance" item. It costs 70 points which means you'll always have AT LEAST enough to buy one.

It's difficult to put into words, but I find it deeply unsatisfying throwing time I spend in a game away into the abyss, even if that time doesn't really result in any progress towards a defined objective. I also enjoy the souls games myself. However, I've always had a problem with the part of the fan base that has fabricated a narrative of their own elitism in order to exalt themselves.

Unlike changes in the Souls series, the removal of atelier time limits is pretty clearly a casualization. However, removing that limit does not only have a casualizing effect; as I've demonstrated, you don't have to be an idiot to appreciate the effects of opening up the game. So, it's conceited to think that anyone in favor of removing the limit is stupider, less dedicated, or inferior to you.

The game has many endings and very much replay value. I think it has decent length for a game like this. The translation is fine, no stupid memes. Could have added subtitles though to one or another, but you'ull probably understand what they're saying anyway even without them.
