The music stops immediately, and the monster obviously winds down to go to sleep. Just keep that in mind next time. Although, if no one said they were sleeping a monster in the first place, don't feel too bad. Those fuckers have to communicate, too.

There's a small grace period before your attacks wake the monster. If you stop as soon as possible, you'll be fine.

How the hell do I defeat bigger monsters? I've hacking at them forever and they don't even look hurt

Taking suggestions for a GS set. With a nice charm, I can get:

I chose to skip Silverwind VII, and got the tickets in Silverwind IX. I managed to do that because I was just farming for the SA, but jesus getting those armors to lvl10 must be a fucking pain in the ass

They are all fine for IG, just use whichever you like the best. Extract hunter is alright from level 2 on, but imo is unnecessary 90% of the time once you get used to grabbing buffs. Swarm is underrated and actually quite strong, it helps immensely with breaks/staggers. I don't use the vault attack much but it is very fun and satisfying to use, especially with swarm. I'd rather keep the swarm going than waste it though, but thats just me. Play around with them all and see what you like best. I personally just use swarm, occasionally using absolute readiness/evasion.

Well, I killed that Glavenus you find in the mushroom hunt quest.

Changed up gear, went in with Lv.2 Tetsu Armour and Lv.4 Petrified Dual Blades on Aeriel Style with Wolf's Maw.
Took 35 minutes, but I managed it without carting.

First, Wolf's Maw is great. Feels so satisfying to get in a whole combo with that active.

But holy shit, Glavenus went into rage mode like eight times over the course of the fight. Fucking christ, what a fight.

I shall impart the wisdom I have picked up while pierce gunning through MHG

The Astalos HBG is a solid choice with good internal ammo but requires Recoil+1 to fire properly. Good Recoil+1 armors in LR include Battle, Hermitaur, and Glavenus. The bone squid HBG is good for piercing since it doesn't require Recoil+1, allowing you to grab other damage boosting or utility skills, but comes with less stellar internal ammo and the fact that you can't fully upgrade it until HR7 unless you mooch off of someone else's quests. Its siege firing also sucks nut, but if you're like me and never use it you wont notice

I would use both the Astalos HBG and bone squid HBGs, alternating between the two depending on your armor sets and if you can upgrade one higher than the other.

Later on the Daora HBG with Recoil+1 is the best for general piercing and siege piercing and also looks like a massive desert eagle.

The Shagaru HBG, while not as good for piercing, is good for NormalS if you ever need it. Also don't expect a good set with R+1 and Pierce Up without a really good talisman. I lucked out and got both Recoil+5 OOO and PierceUp+5 OOO so I have a lot of flexibility in my sets. As usual, Evade Extender is great if you can get it, but don't prioritize it over your staple skills or R+1 and PierceUp.

I can't say anything for Striker and Aerial, but Adept is a great style for HBGs, offering more offense via power reloading or mobility via the dash. Keep in mind that you must choose to reload or dash, unlike the LBG which can do both. The best Hunter Art is hands down Gunpowder infusion, making your choice of art easy for one art styles. Not only will it power up your shots and stacks with power reload, but it can also be used to interrupt your reload animation, making your reload time and art activation times overlap for speedier execution. Just dont get stupid with it and gunpowder reload cancel in the thick of it as it is still slower than just a normal reload.

You're probably looking at a fight which lasts between 25 and 40 minutes, depending on your gear.

I used two traps, and two palico poison traps, with large barrel bombs, along with two mounts, and it still took 35 minutes.

In my opinion, if you want to fight and kill it, bring everything you have. Demondrug, Armourskin, Dash Juice if you're using a stamina heavy weapon, Mega and regular Potions, traps, maybe even Combo Books with Trap Tools and stuff.

Depends on your rank in LR which is why I just listed a bunch. Make battle armor if you're very new, Hermitaur if you've played a bit, or Glavenus if you're nearing the end of LR. Glavenus's armor also comes with the skill allowing you to sharpen your HBG (??????????) which also grants you Attack Up Large for one minute. Very useful to use if you're prepping for a monster about to fall over or something.

I can't say much for HR gunner armor as I jumped straight to Rathalos S + Nakarkos HBG from LR Glavenus but Hermitaur S and Zamtrios offer Recoil skills. If using the Nakarkos HBG which doesn't need that R+1, you could opt for Narga S armor for mobility, Lagi S for pierce Up, or Rathalos S for AuM and weakness exploit

If you somehow get a 2 slot charm with +3 of the Stonefist Hermitaur's unique skill, you could use this set for Bubbly Dance, Resentment, Recoil+2, Divine Protection, and Pierce Up. Not super ugly and extremely powerful overall, as Bubbly Dance will self inflict bubbles onto you, triggering Resentment at will (+20 Attack equivalent to AuL)

I've played LBG all of one time in Gen, and I think Internal Ammo is various special ammo types which you get a fixed amount of in certain bowguns, for quests only.
You can't buy it, and if you run out in a quest, you can't get any more, but it looks like you get a restock of it for every quest you take the bowgun into.

Those bug quests actually aren't as bad as you think. They use to be bad when it was 25 or 30, so 50 sounds like hell. They seem to have vastly increased the spawn rate though, so it shouldn't take you more than 10 or 15 minutes, tops. Hell you could just take two boomerang cats and go afk, they'll kill everything for you.

The Bnahabra one is ok. It's in the fun Deserted Island and the spawn increase is significant and well distributed.
The Vespoid one is SHIT. It's in the SHIT marshlands, they're not in nearly enough areas and the spawn increase is SHIT.

essence extender bug only increases buff time by 50% now, not 100%

Getting triple buffed resets them all regardless of how long you've had the buffs. So you could get red and white (objectively all you really need), attack for 60 seconds, get yellow just before they expire and get another 60 seconds out of them all. As you play IG more, grabbing buffs will be second nature and you won't even notice it. You'll get used to constant buffing.

Some of the upgraded bugs have funky stuff like double up extensions, but they only add 20 seconds. Just get used to grabbing buffs, let the bug hang tight before recalling him if its a tough color to get. Or you could even get the balanced bug for an extra 30 seconds of triple buff. Speed bug is superior damage though, 30% affinity is just too big to ignore. Do what you think is best.
