Sup hbg, I had a similar issue from an anon of some thread ago. I also did the downgrade some time ago, already got my OTP.

However, I restarted the guide. I just finished part 3 and I'm currently checking part 5. That means I have a 11.0 Luma with a 9.2 Sys.

I believe he was also in this part: Section II - Installing arm9loaderhax

Reinsert your SD card into your 2.1.0 3DS
Go to http://dukesrg.github.io/2xrsa.html?arm11.bin on your 3DS
If you get an error, follow this troubleshooting guide
If you get a glitched screen, follow this troubleshooting guide
Select Full Install
The installer will now install arm9loaderhax on your device (this is very fast)
Following this, booting to a black screen is normal (Luma3DS cannot boot a 2.1.0 NAND).
Copy your console specific OTP.bin from the /a9lh/ folder on your SD card to a safe location on your computer and back it up to multiple locations (such as online file storage)

So what should I do? Would all that stuff work on 11.0 Luma instead of 2.1? The next step also mentions some other 2.1 stuff, so I'm not too sure about anything.

Are emulators on Vita at a point where they outperform related ones on PSP yet?
>>
>>150059756
You can run the homebrew version of SafeA9LHInstaller from the SysNAND homebrew launcher, just unpack the 3ds folder from the .zip. If you replaced your boot.3dsx to autoboot Luma, replace it back with the starter kit one. Your otp.bin goes in \a9lh (not the root of the SD card).

At that point, you'll need to use Hourglass9 (retard-proof, no way to fuck it up from there) or Decrypt9+keep a9lh (better make sure you select that option) to restore your 11.0 EmuNAND backup to SysNAND. Pretty much like in the guide but your emunand backup might have a different name (or you might even have to make it).

Alright, so from now on after getting all the files the guide implies to get inside the SD Card, the steps would be
>backup rednand
>replace boot
>place otp
>SafeA9LHInstaller on Sys via Menuhax
>Restore rednand to sysnand
>sysnand is now 11.0
Correct if I'm wrong.

>>
>>150060432
Yep. You can go back to following the guide after you installed a9lh, but yours won't give you a blackscreen after installation (since you're not on 2.1). When restoring RedNAND data, you can make a new backup if you want/have to, it's fine and can't fuck you over as long as you use HG9 for restore.

Emulators go in the VHBL folder in ux0:/pspemu/. Roms go wherever you designate them, usually in a subdirectory in the emulator's folder.

This general isn't about piracy. Piracy is often the desirable outcome of homebrew, but this general is about homebrew and hacking consoles to run homebrew. Sorry that you've only been around for /3dstechsupport/ but this general is a lot more than that.

So I have a Japanese old 3DS, not sure which firmware it's on, but I installed one of the first browserhax that was released.

Basically, if I follow that github guide and downgrade the fw and install some nand stuff, I can play "backups" without a flash card?

I think you do it through this freeshop thing, right? It looks like an app that you just open and click to download any 3DS game you want, is that what it is? If so, will those freeshop games work on a Japanese 3DS or will I need to do some region mod things as well?
>>
>>150064076

It really boils down to your personal answer to one question: Can you follow instructions to the letter if given a very explicit step-by-step set of instructions?

I'm not actually being sarcastic either.

If you can, definitely do it. There's no risk of bricking if you follow the instructions exactly.

If you can't, definitely do NOT do it. There's a few places you can soft brick and two where you can hard brick if you decide "meh, this step doesn't look important, no big deal, I'll skip it".

That all said, rxTools isn't a permanent solution, and it's quite possible that Nintendo could completely fuck your online access and prevent new games from being played.

Quick question:
I've done the full arm9loaderhax before on an O3DS.
Now I've got a N3DS on 10.7.0-32U
All I want to do is install 3ds .cia games.
This is doable now without the initial need for Smashbroshax/oot3dhax?

The github wiki is pretty unclear on what to do with 10.7, hence my confusion

>>
>>150064364

>>
>>150065348
you just need a homebrew entrypoint

Menuhax and browserhax just came out for 10.6-11.0 firmware

put it together
>>
How likely is it that 11.0 will get something that makes it easier to downgrade than having 2 consoles? I don't know anybody with a hacked 3DS and don't want to spend money buying one either.
>>
>>150064151
>I can play "backups" without a flash card?
What do you mean by "backups"? Like, saves? If so you only need homebrew and a save manager like JKSV.
>I think you do it through this freeshop thing, right?
freeShop lets you download and install games from any region as long as you have the keys. For that you need to get a CFW able to run the freeShop .cia

>>150065348
>This is doable now without the initial need for Smashbroshax/oot3dhax?
As long as browserhax still works on your browser (which most likely will).
>>
>>150065727

Quite doubtful.
>>
>>150065772
Wasn't browserhax "quite doubtful" not too long ago?
>>
>>150065741
No I meant backups as in 3ds games without having the physical 3ds game

>from any region as long as you have the keys.
What do you mean with keys?
>>
>>150065815

Yes. An exploit to run homebrew is much easier to find than an exploit to downgrade is. I have heard before that the exploit would have to be so severe that downgrading wouldn't even be necessary to get CFW.

I'm no expert though, and you might see an exploit soon, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
>>
>>150065938
I wish I had read about this more before impulse buying a 3DS yesterday. I saw it had 11.0 but thought that it was downgradable without actually knowing it was just homebrew that could be put on it. Still $89 for a 3DSXL isn't a bad price I guess.
>>
>>150065536
Nah.

a9lh pretty much covers everything, especially in conjunction with Luma
>>
just made this, r8
>>
>>150065827
Oh, then yeah. As long as you're not on 11.0 you can follow the guide and then be able to save .cias on your computer so you can transfer to your sd card or viceversa.
>What do you mean with keys?
A title keys is basically what the eShop (or any .cia that downloads from Nintendo's servers) reads and says "you own this game, so you can download it". An updated enctitlekeys.bin lets you download games from freeShop/CIAngel. freeShop won't make "backups" though, it installs directly to the sd card.

You could always flip it on craigslist or Ebay. Then use the profit to buy a new one. I did something like this a little while ago. Sold my 11.0 3DS on craigslist with a game for 150. Bought a new 3ds on amazon for 170. Lost about 30-40 bucks total in the whole ordeal. Worth it for a CFW'd 3DS in my opinion.

You could also pay someone on GBAtemp to hardmod and install A9LH. It's pretty expensive though. I was quoted $100.

freeShop is just the front where you can download the games. To actually unlock games you don't own, you need to update enctitlekeys.bin.
All of what I've said and more is in the pastebin in the OP. Read it.
>>
>>150065815
Not really.

Browserhax to 10.7 has always been a "it's coming soon" type thing. Browserhax to 11.0 has always been a "it'll eventually get here, but could even take years" kinda thing.

11.0 downgrade is a "possibly never ever and certainly no time soon" kind of thing.

Breaking open a (already unstable) browser in order to run customized software isn't even remotely close to breaking open native firmware and completely rewriting it.

That said, DSiWare came out of NOWHERE, and certainly wasn't expected by anyone.

Vita will probably emulate SNES games better than the 3ds does bar comparing emulation vs. injection.

There's only recently been a small interest in working on snes emulation on the 3ds very recently and it's no better than with on retroarch.
>>
>>150067154

Super unlikely but possible.

There's been three separate reports of 11.0 stock N3DS's now, so it's starting to seem like Nintendo's shipping them out.

There are lots of dumb questions, but this isn't one of them.

The DLC will work perfectly fine for the retail copy of the game, though if you're installing it from a .cia instead of Title Keys or CIAngel, you'll have to reinstall it via .cia instead of downloading it from the eShop if you ever remove it (or if the DLC gets updated, like with Smash).

Instability of Browserhax in general.

Sometimes it works right away (mine did). Sometimes it takes 20 tries. Sometimes it takes 50 (friend's did). Sometimes you just need a new SD card.

anon pretty much got most of the others. White is a tiny bit more nuanced (means thread crash) but ultimately you just have to try again as if you got Yellow. Pink is reserved for specific apps, but again, just try again.

It's really cool that all the different colors mean something, but in reality you follow the same steps for pretty much everything except Blue.

>Step 1: Retry launching the app (X amount of times)
>Step 2: Redownload / transfer newest app files to SD Card and retry launching app (X amount of times)
>Step 3: Attempt process on a new SD card (X amount of times)

>STEP X: Weep for your broken 3DS.

If screen is Black, Yellow, White, or Pink, start from Step 1.
If screen is Red or Green (SUPER convenient for color blind people), start from Step 2.
If screen is Orange, start from Step 3.

If screen is Blue, go straight to Step X.

Vita and n3ds are going to be really similar in terms of emulators.

The only real differences:

Vita
>Vita games (lol)
>PSP library
>Eventual N64 emulation

3DS
>3DS games (lol)
>DS library

Every other system that can be played on one will be able to be played on the other. Even PSOne emulation is looking to reach 99.99999% accuracy / performance on the n3ds eventually.

>>150073756

It's safe.

>>
>>150074038

Thing is, the Vita homebrew hasn't really been worked on much. It's been possible for years, but it was so convoluted to do that no one really bothered. With how wide open it's been cracked, we can expect to see a lot of great stuff in the future.
>>
>>150073992

>>
>>150073821

>>
>>150074285
only risky with flashcarts youre fine
>>
>>150074187

It'll definitely be able to emulate the n64, but it does NOT have the power to do it well. You're looking at SLIGHTLY better than PSP tier n64 emulation, which was pretty piss poor for most games (some did fine of course, but most performed really poorly). Ultimately, it'll be pretty much unplayable except for a small handful of games, or you'll have to be fine with games running at 1/3rd of the regular frame rate without audio.

Vita has enough power to run a fairly accurate N64 emulator with little issue, we just need a native emulator for it and not one ported from the PSP.

From what? The lists are about what the differences between the systems are ultimately going to be when the dust settles, and both Vita and n3ds will be able to play PSOne without issue. Vita can do it right now, just like the n3ds can play SNES perfectly fine right now. n3ds will be able to eventually play PSOne perfectly fine, just like the Vita will eventually be able to play SNES games perfectly fine.

>>
>>150074952
You can always try solderhax if you'd like to fuck it more high.

Did it happen when you downgraded to 2.1? If so, try booting your 3DS without the SD card, then insert it if it turns on. This is a common problem that the guide has an FAQ for when you downgrade to 9.2, but not 2.1.
>>
>>150075054

That's pretty much the same thing as Vita not ever having as accurate SNES emulation as the n3ds. Ultimately it doesn't matter, because both Vita SNES and n3ds PSOne emulation will end up being 99.9% accurate, as most emulation is.
>>

Take your SD card out and try to power it on. If it works, you'll have a chance tomorrow. If not, then no worries.

So can I SDF my old save files from my GW install onto my new a9lh install? I know I'll have to reinstall all my shit so the apps already there are toast, but I'm hoping I can just export the saves and then reimport them to work with the new install.

I'm fucked aren't I?
>>
>>150075412

Actually, you should be able to transfer the save files perfectly fine. Obviously use a proper save manager for importing them, but I don't see where there could be a problem with this.

Looks like you sorta lucked out after all.

>>
>>150075610
There's no issue, this is just a known problem at this stage. You haven't bricked your 3DS and you can continue with the rest of the guide. If I'm not mistaken then the next part for you is to enter the URL given in Part 4 and continue from there.

Now sleep off the drugs.

>>
>>150075520
Yeah, I know the save file becomes untied from the unique ID when you export it

so I probably should use that other save manager then right? I don't think SDF can see outside of SD/Extdata and can only see the saves in its own working folder.

>>150075610
I had that issue, gotta let it boot to home menu with no SD inserted and then stick it back in

then you follow the guide as normal
>>
>>150075610

Oh, you're in luck. 3ds isn't bricked at all. Menuhax just has to be redone.

Basically, GO TO SLEEP AFTER YOU GO TO SLEEP AND CONTINUE THIS IN THE MORNING

After that, you just have to boot up the 3ds with no sd card inserted, stick it back in when you get to the menu, then do the browserhax and reset up menuhax.

>>
>>150078739
a long time.
Most of the time spent hacking is making sysnand.bin and emunand.bin

CIAngel is the easiest. Freeshop is good but it doesn't have DLC yet.

Other than that, go nuts. Try whatever game you want.

Oh, installing a .cia directly from the SD card is perfectly fine too, but it's definitely a lengthier process, so it should probably only be done for games that aren't on CIAngel and Freeshop yet.

With ciangel, you search for the games and it returns a list of said games. It clearly differentiates between regions in the search results, so you can choose to install the us or Jap version all you want (and so long as you're using Luma, you're region free

Scarried anon here.

I did the instructions from Part 1 of OP guide and after rebooted, I holded down key, upper screen got fuzzy with multicolors, down got green, red and blue, then launched "homebrew launcher" and version numer 1.1.1. Does it mean that I did it right?
>>
>>150086104
>don't know if there's any saturn emulators worth a shit
There's SSF which is closed source, Windows only, and has some bullshit ass DRM that requires you to mount discs with specific disc mounting software to work correctly. Obviously, that can't be ported off Windows

Then there's Yabause. It's fucking garbage, barely works, and development was stopped so they could focus on an Android port, which is fancy emulation talk for "We're killing the project but don't want to say it so bluntly"

The only chance for Saturn emulation on the Vita is if Rypecha's mednafen-saturn emulator can run on such low-end specs that the Vita has, and I highly doubt it.

Just got started with trying this out with my old 3ds, and I'm already confused.
I'm on verision 7.0.0-13E so I apparently need to update to exactly 9.2.0. I followed the instructions on how to do so from the OP guide and after visiting a specific URL my 3ds is supposed to boot into Decrypt9, but instead the browser just closes down and I get a typical warning message about saving important data and restarting blablabla.
Did I miss some step to do before updating to 9.2.0? Do the URLs still work? What could be the problem here?
>>
>>150086548
Well, am I not a "gamer"? I don't exactly introduce myself to people with "I'm a gamer xD", but it has been without a doubt my main hobby throughout my entire life.

I enjoy reading about games, I enjoy knowing stuff about games, I enjoy watching games, I enjoy thinking about what goes into making a game (coding, art, music).

But for some reason, I just can't play games any more, I can't immerse myself into them and keep focused on the story. It sucks.

Besides, guide mention that doing system format before downgrading might be useful, especially in case of DSi Ware or Abassador status devices. Great to know that Quake and Princess Maker 2 are worth more than every CPS1, CPS2, and Neo-Geo arcade title. And 95% of the NES library. and 100% of the Game Boy / Color library. And 100% of the Genesis and Sega CD library. and 95% of the SNES library. And Cave Story.

Don't format. Only do it when the guide tells you to, or else it might screw something up (I think).
It says that sysnand and rednand needs to have different format counts or else you might brick. So formatting for no reason will put sysnand format count to the same as rednand.

No, no, I might not say it clear.

Im just after Part 1. The only thing I did from Part 2 was using Saves Manager to backup saves. What I was talking about was this warning:

>All variations of sysUpdater, not just PlaiSysUpdater, has a very small chance of causing a "soft brick" once the downgrade is complete and the device reboots. This will cause the system to boot directly to the Nintendo error screen instructing users to power off the device.

>The reason for this is unknown, but can be prevented by performing a system format before downgrading. It seems to happen very often on systems with ambassador status or who have DSiWare installed.

This is probably a dumb question that gets asked regularly, and the answer is probably simply 'no', so I apologize in advance but...

Is there any way of knowing what firmware a 3DS is on before opening the box? I've found a guide for that somewhere but it was pretty outdated and only for N3DS.

Neo X/Y were mostly a proof of concept "see we can change things" hack, which is kinda cool except the writing is horrible and it's full of bugs like trainers being randomly swapped and giving you either trivial shit late on or impossible shit early on. EXWY is your average hack that increases the game's difficulty and has a few surprises here and there (but not close to Rutile Ruby/Star Sapphire).

But no, there's not too much speed to be gained after that. The 3ds has a relatively low write speed, and only a slight higher max read speed. We generally don't recommended shelling out for class 10 SD card since you'll hardly (if at all) see ANY benefit over class 8.

However, your meme falls on deaf ears since the screenshot quality is still pretty good.

This is the closest you'll get

https://m.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/4pmpgb/new_3ds_serial_firmware_list/

Basically, any code lower than QW4072, or ones without the exact same letters, are 100℅ safe.

QW4075 and QW4074 exist, but there's no proof either way about whether they're on 11.0 or lower, but those are the only numbers at risk. Anything else and you have a hackable 3ds.

Having trouble finding a good picture of the pinout. I have the back cover off and the board exposed but the only pictures I can find are close-up without decent landmarks. After staring at the board for a solid 20 minutes trying to find where it looks like the pictures, I begin to suspect that it's on the underside. Is that correct? Alright, so I just finished getting everything for a9lh, and it's working fine, but I have some questions from someone who converted from cakes

1. Does this mean that emuNAND isn't even a thing anymore? And that I can update from the regular system setting without having to worry of fucking myself over?

2. Do I still need my previous files from cakes?

2.5. Is cakes relevant at all to me? Or is there something I should keep in mind?

3. It says I can hold a certain button on boot to load Luma3DS config, Hourglass9, EmuNAND9, Decrypt9. Can someone tell my the diffrences of each, it's all really confusing

4. Do I need BootNTR, or is A9LH region free?

i don't get it
in all of these threads everyone always says: read the guide, don't skip any steps
and yet there are people who are literally STUPID like you who just decide to not follow directions on a fucking childish whim
yes, you are fucked, because you needed that backup to restore the emunand before installing a9lh after acquiring your otp key

you deserve this for being a fucking retard in all of the meaning of the word, you fucking mouth-breathing frogposter
>>
>>150106610
Technically no. Unless you really liked your games and their saves.
But geez, all you have to do is back up the original sysnand and emunand.
>>
Been having unreliable loadups with Luma, any remedy for it?
>>
>>150106610
Use your part 2 SysNAND backup instead (the very first backup you made). You'll have to update it after you're done, you can do that normally with a9lh though.
>>
>>150106610
whatever you do don't try to update normally or you're guaranteed a brick
you can probably restore just about any nand backup made over the course of this but you won't get any data from your emunand back
if you didn't make any backups you have to go buy a cart
>>
>>150100536
Did you try google
Serious suggestion, it's in a pastebin that turns up in a google search for slot0x24KeyY
I'm telling you to google it instead of just linking it so that maybe next time you'll try a basic search before asking

I played DR1 on PPSSPP with a bone controller. The cursor always felt a bit sluggish to me. Not terrible, but not as good as I'd like. The first-person controls, on the other hand, were god-fucking-awful. That's to be expected from a PSP game, though
I played DR2 on PC, initially with a controller, and it had the same problem:
>left on the left stick turns instead of strafes
One day, I got too lazy to fish my controller out of my drawer and just used KBM instead, and it blew my fucking mind.
>mouse for cursor makes clicking around rooms significantly less cumbersome
>improved hangman's gambit becomes bearable
>first-person controls like it fucking should
I never went back.
>Was anybody complaining?
Dunno, don't care. Doesn't matter
TLDR Danganronpa on PC is better. (You).

So getting A9LH, I figured out that everything but GBA game's save's carry over. Specifically I'm bummed because I lost my Mother 3 save file (which I was on chapter 7) but there's a place where they have savestates for every chapter.

So is there a way to somehow carry over a save state from an emulator onto a GBA game that's on the 3ds?

>>
>>150108929
You can use the silencer as regular ammo on the front screen, but even more convenient (and slightly overpowered) with the back touch screen.

With the back touchscreen, only the silencer shoots and it cannot miss if you actually hit the area.
>>
>>150108887

You can for as long as 3.60 remains the latest firmware.

When it doesn't, use a PS3.

>>
>>150109082
Well, it would be problematic for you to get the romfs and create the layeredfs plugin (finding guides and doing it is easy though, don't worry). I don't know exactly what these games use for their sound, but most 3ds games use the .bcstm format. Find the track you want to replace and get a .bcstm of the one you want to replace it with, name it as the original and put it in the layeredfs plugin folder.
You can look up if this stuff has been looked into by other people, it's probably going to be helpful. Changing music isn't hard either way, so don't worry.

I'm sorry but I'm a little lazy today. I'm checking the Wii game list right now, and..

The backups are NOT. FUCKING. NEGOTIABLE.

You WILL be asked to use backups you make again.

DO NOT DELETE ANY BACKUP YOU MAKE ON THE GITHUB GUIDE UNTIL YOU ARE DONE.

Just because they said you don't use an emuNAND anymore doesn't mean you aren't going to restore your emuNAND to sysNAND purposefully in an hour.

Don't have one? You're stuck in a limbo with an un-updatable 3DS until you manage to finagle a surgery procedure more complex than the one on Github to unfuck yourself.
