The homing soul arrows are great because they fly just slow enough that you will often rollcatch people who thought a Soul Spear was coming out.

Soul Vortex I've never seen used to particularly good effect because it's a pretty slow cast. Try the shower one; same general use, but more viable.

You have to have 60 int for that; but as I recall, how dark works is that it uses the lower of your int or faith to determine the bonus you get. 40 is the softcap for that, if my old hexer build is anything to go by. Up to you if more orbs is really worth 20 extra levels.

My favorite innate dark weapon was the Fume Sword. Straightswords are good for casters in DS2 since it allows you to dominate the very close range with swift strikes, then use your spells at longer ranges. The Roaring Halberd is a good option for high dark damage, and there's also the Crypt Blackpopsicle if you have a lot of strength too.

Also, make sure to infuse your BWS with dark, and just carry a lightning chime for any heals you might need to cast.

This is actually a good ratio. Most people playing Dark Souls 1, especially PvP, are seasoned veterans, so beating them isn't going to be very easy.

Durability does matter in DS1 especially if you're a katana user. Maybe Miyamuhmiya intended for there to be less bonfires or that the durability wouldn't get restored at bonfires.

I wished they had kept Demon's Souls durability mechanic.
