You're as blind as the SJWs you cry about anon. The "SJW" elements are window dressing, they're just there and barely play any part in the story (or none, the tranny is literally an NPC in a city who has zero relevance to anything). They're not the problem with the story in this game. The problem with the story is Anet's complete inability to properly plan out their stories and finish them within development time (HoT has a very obvious chunk of it missing to do with the Nightmare Court, as there's an NPC in the final map who is the new head of it who greets you as if you know her), and actually ensuring said content has internal consistency and the characters act like they should instead of supposedly smart characters being dumb for dumb reasons (see: Caithe in all instances ever.) and a lack of compelling antagonists. The dragons aren't that - their goal isn't something that can be sympathized with - and the racial antagonists had potential but the Sons of Svanir are basically a non-threat, the Flame Legion got dismantled in the dungeon story, the Nightmare Court's goal/threat is relegated mostly to their race, and while the Inquest and WM have potential, only one is seeing any actual development and only very, very recently.

tl;dr, stop giving Anet things to hide behind. This shit isn't trash because of some lesbians or trannies, it's trash because they can't write a story, can't write villains, and can't figure out a development pace that works for them if it'd save their goddamn lives.

But I guess if people like you focus on that surface features it only works in Anet's favor. It's probably why they do it, too, so their critics focus a cardboard cutout in LA rather than legitimate issues and it can be easily swept aside as hatespeech.

Gw had fantastic worldbuilding and each continent had engaging mainline and sidequests.
The story was great for the type of game it was and it's writing did the job even though it was delivered mostly in plain text. Eotn was the weakest but it still was better then anything Gw2 brought, though I'd be lying if the early personal story bits didn't start off strong in Gw2.

In short, Gw did enough to make you care about the world around you while Gw2 really doesn't do shit.
I still fault the 'persistent open world' for that, they just can't seem to bring interesting stories to the maps or even enemies for that matter. Due to everything being instanced in Gw it could tell better stories through quests and missions instead of events that have to be able to recycle every 10 minutes, which leaves no impact on the world itself.

I've been toying with the idea of remaking Papillon this game, but I'm still trying to work what I'm going to do about one of his key aspects. The whole 'near the end of his lifespan/die a meaningful death before it claims him' thing that drove most of his actions. The problem with GW2's story is the pacing and the characters themselves

Before GW2 launched ArenaNet released an article called "Movement of the World" where it detailed the events that shaped the GW world into what we're dealing with now. It told of Emperor Usoku in Cantha and that the tengu race were banished along with every other non-human creature due to xenophobia and the destruction of the Kurzicks and Luxons. How Palawa Joko now governs Elona and the Sunspears have all but succumbed to his power or promise of power. It spoke of five elder dragons, the sinking of the Battle Isles, and the dwarves.

Ok now then the initial story then proceeded to split the story into three orders: Order of Whispers, The Vigil, and the Durmand Priory. Ok now there's the Pact. Ok now there's Dragon's Watch. Ok now there's all the different factions like the Adamant Guard, the Wolfborn, the White Mantle, the Shining Blade, Modus Sceleris, the Pale Reavers, the Peacemakers, the Inquest, the Flame Legion, the Shaman Caste, the Lion Guard, etc etc etc. They developed a game where all these different racial factions are interacting with each other and having impacts of varying degrees but ArenaNet aren't able to expand on these different stories in a satisfying manner.

In GW1 we had characters that were from different paths of life but progressed the story based on those different paths. Tahlkora was a princess, Dunkoro was an esteemed member of Istan, Prince Rurik was a prince, Brother Mhenlo was a very famous Tyrian that made it into Canthan education, Master togo? Do I even have to mention him? Ogden and Vekk PULLED the characters around with their own interests within the world. Ogden was a dwarf that really wanted to rally forces for King Jalis and Vekk introduced Oola and Gadd. Zhed was a centaur that helped the player character.

My point is what is Marjory doing? What is Kasmeer doing? These characters are just lackeys. Haha comedy relief now go kill the AI to fill the bar

New zone feels a lot like SW did when it launched. Not really sure if it's just because of the content drought or not, but it's nice to have a map where you're not forced into some kind of meta event to progress or do things.
