When it tells me that I have to hold in a direction and then input the other direction plus an attack like with Cerebella's rushing attack or Parasoul's napalm gun/trigger, how long do I need to hold for? It seems that it has to be a pretty significant amount of time or else it won't work, unless I'm doing it wrong.

It isn't that long, like a half second of charging, and as a bonus you can actually hold down back while doing other moves. Parasoul can hold down back as she's doing the two hits of her sHP, and then tap forward + LP to fire a Napalm Shot and it'll confirm. You can do the same thing with holding down Crouch during sHP and tapping up + HK for Napalm Pillar > Silent Scope

Cerebella can use charged Tumbling Run commands for many combos. Runstops allow you to stuff another chain into a combo like Squigly's stance canceling. If you're midscreen, you can do cLK > cMP > sHP > Kanchou and it'll connect. You can hold down back while you hit sHP and perform Pummel Horse immediately after. Watch the inputs at the left side to get the gist of it. You don't have to know how to do this kind of stuff right now but just to get an idea for the timing.

Never trust things online.

What's interesting is that the first frame you input back doesn't count towards the charge.
So you have to actually hold backwards for 36F before doing the other direction + button.

You can counter super Parasoul's level 3 with your own super, and if she cancels immediately without thinking it ends the invincibility as soon as she cancels.

I also recommend going back and doing some of the tuts you had the most trouble with again, until they feel more natural, especially the ones about defensive maneuvers.
that should help warm you up to the kind of grinding you'll need to do with your chosen characters in practice mode.

really the tuts should start to feel pretty easy for you by the time you're ready to rock n roll.

That's how they had to write it off to avoid a shitstorm, but there's no way that change was an oversight.
They had a dozen very talented artists on their team working on the prototype in the trailer,
including Mariel, who we know loves brown skintones and would have definitely said something about it.
Even the programmers from previous games could have probably told you which shades of brown were used for her old palettes.
The promo art and campaign gifs featured the same pale skintone too, so that's as deliberate as you can get.

Someone in-charge definitely wanted her pale until fans spoke up about it.
But thankfully they made the change ASAP before it had time to fester into a MN9 level media disaster.

Now we can rest easy knowing brown Shantae is here to stay.

The world has ferals, so seeing some animal people isn't too outlandish. Just some of them, by-design, don't try to fit in, like that big dragon/pony guy.

Tried this out just now. I have a feeling I should probably wait for a free to play weekend on steam before I actually play this in any great amount.

Practice. Although the combos are long, the game is very forgiving on timing and uses only the simplest motions. When I started I always thought I could never get the hang of a game like this, but now I almost never drop anything.

I haven't played one seriously in years and I can tell cause my fingers hurt. Hate to say this but I'm the definition of casual only likes street fighter, smash, mk, and other low level fighting games where you can figure out the controls really quickly and comboing is really basic bitch shit outside of competitive play. I got into the first Blaz Blue when they had that easy to use control scheme but the moment they got rid of it for the sequels I never played the game again.

Low level? Hardly. The difference is just that those games have a bigger audience, so it's easier to play people on a casual level. Fight a pro in any of those games and you'll feel like you're fighting against a psychic. Suddenly your whole perspective of the game is turned on its head.

Personally I think the difficulty curve for a game like Skullgirls is somewhat inverted from a game like SF. Initially Skullgirls seems overwhelming, but the more you understand your options, the more opportunities you can take advantage of. There are a number of universal defensive mechanics and traits among the cast that can be used to your advantage, as long as you learn when to use them.

Meanwhile, in Street Fighter, the game starts out simpler, but the more your competition levels up, the more you have to capitalize on small nuances and understand specific matchups. You don't have things like airblock, pushblock,absolute guard or assists to aid you in a pinch, so finding those optimal whiff punishes, perfecting links, and developing frame knowledge become crucial.

As said above, the key for either style of game is practice. Put in the time, and you'll unquestionably improve.

And honestly I think inputs in those games just feel harder in general. The best option for Casuals in any fighting game is just to play with friends.

Practicing Valentine combos and I had a couple of silly questions.

You might be trying to use the same level bypass in one combo, It doesn't allow you to do H air bypass and then another H air bypass in the same combo, so you'll have to do either a M or L bypass instead

Definitely not, it's the first time I'm using it in the combo when it arrives. Even when I just jump straight into the air and try and pull it off I'll often just end up with a j.HK despite the full range of quarter circle inputs registering so it's something with my execution.

I appreciate the info, though. I'll keep it in mind, it certainly explains why the second Savage Bypass in the combo is with MK instead.
