Oh wow, I feel like a complete idiot now; I started playing 2 days ago and I've been struggling against the camera the entire time. I didn't even realize there was a simple fix in the options menu.

Set your target cam to Control Type 1, Behavior Type 2, and set Terrain Savvy Camera to Manual and the camera will stay on the correct fucking angle once you set it. Holy shit, the game is much more comfortable to play now. I gotta get me a PSP1000 stick to replace this clit nub.

I also didn't notice you could change the start button into your special attack, or that the ZL and ZR buttons were responsible for your other specials. Someone should make a beginner's tips section in the MHG pastebin and put load it up with this sort of info.

Should I just focus on high raw weapons and ignore elements for the time being? I can't even feel much of a difference (or see it in kill time) when I use a monster's weakness versus my highest raw weapon. Am I just a huge shitter, or am I missing something vital?

Should I try to get the combo bar full asap with normal attacks and then unleash with r or should I weave r into my normal attack combos and deal more damage(?) and get the bar full at a slower pace

It feels like the adept dodge is a huge commit when I try to pull of the X R combo. It takes way too much time. Often I get hit by tail swipes and other bullshit in the meantime. Any tips?

I only started in MH4U playing CB exclusively.
It is a little weaker in MHGEN but it's nowhere near as dead or useless as people in this general claim it is.

Overhead Axe chop is its single strongest attack, so if you have only opening for one attack, that's the one you want to use.
Like, for example, smacking Alatreon on the head, when he turns around.
The hack and slash axe combo has the highest DPS in the game, but realistically can only be used on stationary targets.

Well that's the real issue. If a weapon is slow it should be providing flinches to compensate. But CB doesn't do that really anymore. Hell do you know how many GS users would stop tomorrow if the thing was nerfed to take 3 charges to flinch? Half the enjoyment of the weapon and its flow to combat is in its flinch power. Don't know why they nerfed it so hard.

Most weapons have main attacks with 40+ motion values (with their combos able to deal far more damage than a demon dance within the same time frame assuming the DS is raw), and most weapons don't require you to root yourself for extended periods of time to do your best attack chain (as in it can be cancelled), and most weapons have something else to them besides an attack boost and a dodge boost that makes very little practical different if you know how to play.

Trapper and Healer are wonderful support cats.

The Healer should have all the Horns: Health, True Health, Armour, Detox.
Mandatory skill is Support Boost. Counter Boost is a nice skill as well. Earplugs are always welcome.

The Trapper should have all the Purr-isons. Poison, Pitfall, Shock. Skills will be Support Boost and Pro Trapper for sure.

At least one of your support cats should have Go,Fight,Win.

Sharpness decays per hit dealt, so DB wears down fast.
Get yourself some Sharpness gear for Razor Sharp. It really helps DB. Also the Hunter Art: Absolute Readiness is an Absolute Evade with a free Sharpen. Try both and see what you like.

Personally haven't used one. Got burnt out after farming a damn good Trapper and Healer.
I haven't heard anything bad about a Stealer. Probably works fine.

Just keep in mind the steals will be from the Body Carve loot pool, so you'll still have to smash claws and slice tails for certain drops.

My logic went with having the monster occasionally get trapped and immobilized helps with rare drops compared to getting one more common drop from a thief cat.
