If I join the Empire, and then later become France once I irradicate them (Once I take paris, I might cheese it if their colonies are giving me trouble and inherit them) I could form a GroßHRE by being France, Emperor of the HRE. (Unless tag switching to france kicks me out, I would be pissed)

Once I hit government 18, was gonna take LEF so was gonna stay Catholic during the religious wars I think for moderate tolerance.

HPM, could you take a looj at the event that lets you outlaw slavery as an unciv? It popped up for me as the Toucoleour in the 1850s, I went with the option that actually outlaws slavery yet it didn't do anything, all my slave states kept being slave states. I actually did get the prestige and militancy that option gives though.
Also, what do you think about a decision to reorganize Guyana to your cultures and religion late game if it's mostly (+60%) of your own culture? Seems a bit odd that a mostly British Guyana released from dismantlement in the 1920s/1930s would look exactly like a mostly untouched Guyana where caribbean hold a plurality, which was the historical path but often doesn't happen in game due to massive colonial migrations.

It's a bit of a problem with colonial nations in the new/old world, like Guyana, Greenland and such.

Religion makes sense, but not culture. These nations should follow the same pattern as new world nations: when the nation is released, the original colonists assimilate in the "original" culture. Original culture of the tag, not implying any connection to former colonizers to avoid these problem. So the best solution would be to make a culture called "Guyanese", that would be neutral enough.

It isn't a big deal though, so I'm not in a hurry to do it.

Hi HPM. In the current patch, China is unplayable. I don't mean railroaded, as in you have to pick one path. I also don't mean historical, as I know China was a shitshow in this time period. I mean functionally broken to an absurd degree.

I tried three different China runs, all ended at the same place:

Westernizing, max infantry military at all times, pick minimum militancy decisions

Result: Taiping rebellion nearly impossible to defeat, but more importantly, a 2000k strong reactionary revolt destroyed me one year into the fighting.

Isolationist, max military, minimum militancy increasing events

Result: 1000k Rebellion spawns one month into Taiping, is unbeatable.

Isolationist, max military, crack down on the Taiping in events

Result: 2 months into Taiping rebellion, 1400k reactionary rebellion.


I know this era was a shitshow for China, but they didn't have organized well armed brigades that outnumbered the Qing military rising every 6 months, much less in the middle of the Taiping civil war.


I have some suggestions regarding event tweaks and decisions, but their event path/relationship with reactionary rebels needs a fundamental rework, as I have in 4 observer test games not seen them get within 60% of westernizing once.

Is there any mod that fixes rebels and infamy in victoria 2?

Last game they reached 1936 with the same level of westernization as they started, got hit by many rebellions and spent most of the game as primitives.

I think Taiping should get a boost and work properly, the war should be very bloody, but it should be the main challenge for a Qing player, not billion man revolts.

Taking the western winds modifier is a death sentence for Qing.

Unfortunately Qing was considered "OP" by alex so it has seen successive "nerfs" to the ability to westernize even though the AI couldn't westernize at all half the time. At this point it's practically an economic tool to soak up some extra goods on the market, not really intended to be played. I don't think a player could westernize before 1900 without save-scumming for easy rebellions.

I used to agree with you, but I'm afraid even with maximum save scumming, not taking western winds, and perfect army placement, its impossible. I spent the better part of a day on it. HPM needs to do a full rework of the country, its events, and how reactionaries affect it. I wouldn't suggest it for any other country, but given how influential they are on the economy, they need it.
