I just bought it last thursday and already have 40 hours played. It's really good, easily worth the price as it is right now and since the developer seems to be making good steady progress it can only get better from now on. It has most of the fun parts of Dwarf fortress, except with a great intuitive interface.


It strikes a great balance between automation and tedium in terms of controlling your settlers, has fun engineering mechanics like managing power and temperature (i.e. instead of building a refrigerator item that stores food, you build a walk-in freezer using a room with an air conditioner pointed inside).

Really, if you ever played much Dwarf Fortress, or think you'd like Dwarf Fortress but just can't get past its interface, I highly recommend this game.

Everything was going (relatively) smoothly after a particularly bad winter where the colonists may or may not have had to resort to cannabalism. Now, after a rescue raid against one of the opposing colonies, a bunch of my units fall ill to the flu, and I'm raided by some tribals.

I present to you, Jungle Village! Jungle biome with mountains. Built my colony in a valley between two small mountains, so there's a north entrance and a west entrance. Tried walling off the west and heavily fortified the north.

Current expansion is into the southern mountain - Next room to be built is a proper prison area. Only one dead colonist so far, as you can see from the one filled sarcophagus in the bottom right. She perished in a mad wild boar attack. My only shortage right now is steel, I need tons more to keep building stuff I want.

Start was the standard 3 colonist start, on Cassandra Rough.

I had them haul few stacks of corn and meat before hiding in the storeroom. They also sneak out to get some food when wargs are asleep.

The biggest problem were my own wargs who started to starve after all meat rotted away. I had to drag in two dead visitor bodies to feed them, because I don't want to lose my cows.

One cow miscarried already, hopefully the other one will have a male calf. Don't have any bulls, because my last one got killed by a cougar.

Damn, this game creates great random stories.

You can only take the scythes from scythers that are downed I believe. In the health tab under bills you have the option to shut down (kill them) or take their scythes.

You know what the best feeling is? When a cargo pod drops and you get on your sledge that is pulled by your huskies to slide smooth as fuck to the loot and right back. Imagine if the huskies would be trained to haul but they would only haul irregularly, sometimes items lying down for fucking months with nothing happening. Carnivores attack other animals & humans when they are hungry in the wild, if you notice the map is barren of herbivores, you must go out and hunt them down asap before one of your workers get snacked on which can happen without warning. Workers that are downed that will die 100% because they will keep attacking until they are dead.

Manhunter is different, they will attack any human until they are downed but they won't kill them. The condition will subside eventually or if you down them and rescue them, making warg attacks good if you want to breed you own attack wargs

1 colonist = space tech which lets you research the last tiers faster than the other 2 modes

Nope, you still only have industrial tech for the 1 colonists scenario. If they are combat specced, they can stomp on any raider easily and have enough food to last a month or 2. They are perfect for extreme desert/ice sheet where there is nothing to eat but raiders until they survive long enough to feed another mouth

The main focus is to reduce the ridiculous Mood Penalties for things like executing Prisoners, having some dirt on the floor, getting hungry and instantly going Dazed, preventing you from fixing the problem...

All the Defs I've changed are mood-related, with one slight exception. Someone suggested a new Trait to fold the organ harvesting penalties into, so I added it.

Does it make the game more casual? Yeah, probably, but I don't really view it as a mod to make the game easier. I view it as a mod that fixes problems with Vanilla Rimworld, I just don't believe it makes sense for someone to try to kill his friends after a girl rejects him five times in a day. Unless they're from /b/.

I loved it A12, early brutal survival in the desert with slow building and no electricity. It took a shitload of time to build a decent base, but boy was it satisfying with all the industry and production going on.

Because they are a prisoner. Don't worry though if you release them they instantly rejoin or you can try and just recruit them or talk to them to cheer them up. I think recruiting them gives them a mood boost once they rejoin but I'm unsure.

Maybe embarking on my grand journey into a land where the lowest temperature is -97 and the highest is -3 was a bad idea.

Also, can someone tell me why my main hall is fucking freezing? I don't think I made any mistakes in creating it, but I could be wrong. Maybe I just need to spam heaters, it is -77 outside.

Protip: Animal hunters. When you have trained animals in your colony that are trained and you designate animals to be hunted they will hunt animals for you. They will also nibble some meat off of the animals to feed themselves. If also taught to haul they will haul the bodies to your kitchen. Animals also stun other animals, making them take little to no damage hunting and even if they do they make for a great way to level up medicine for your colony.

Warning: They will also hunt megaspiders on their own if set unrestricted and usually end up dying.
