How big is a pierce shot? In the sense of disrupting other players? I always try to aim a bit over the head if the monster allow it, as I don't want to disrupt the player hitting the monster on the other side of it's body.

I should clarify, more hits are generally still better if possible. The real question is if you are going to run out of the ammo you are using if you take a direct side shot at a head for example. You have to think if you will lose more damage later by not having the round in a better situation. If you are on the side, you want to try and shoot up through the arm area or whatever to hit a head if that is a weakzone etc. A straight side shot will generally not be more damage than several hits of pierce even on a more resistant piece because if your 50% affinity does not proc you are doing very little. But again I think the decision has more to do with what level of pierce you have, how many you have left, and how long the fight will be. Do you have pierce 1 loaded and 50 rounds left and probably 3 min in the hunt? Hit the head nbd. Do you have P2 with 15 rounds left and its a multi monster? probably not worth it.
