Unique to DaS3, there's a hittable shadow lagging behind other players at all time. If you aim where someone was a second ago on your screen, you can often still "catch" them. It's not a bad hitbox, but rather that your client is, for some inexplicable reason, simulating an invisible copy of their hurtbox that's about a second behind their actual position. It's not very helpful under normal circumstances but if someone ever tries to roll out of range of your attack, you can attack where they were before they rolled to catch them, so long as you time it correctly. The only other time you'll notice this happening is typically when you blatantly miss a running attack and sometimes still hit them.


I really can't think of a single reason that the game does this, but it does. I've been abusing it while invading to rollcatch host's that spam roll to buy time for their phantom to respawn and it works wonders.

The two versions literally half the exact same moveset. DaS2 shamelessly ported his animations over, unchanged. He's trivial in that game because it's less clunky and your movement/mobility options (barring grain ring) are generally stronger. Ornstein's moveset is designed for DaS1's speed and pace, and can't keep up with 2's combat system.

Ornstein was never particularly difficult to fight in the first place. He's paired with a second boss for good reason, and the only thing that makes his phase two difficult, aside from his high damage, is the fact that he gains a surprise grab attack that ignores iframes.

That doesn't make sense. If he'd left to find NK without knowing the essence of the betrayal, it would make sense to take his armor off as a sign of disrespect. NK was his mentor, he might have given him the armor. So far so good. But were and how did he find new armor? From Domnhall? And how would he get corrupted by the abyss? He casually waddled in forgetting he's weak to that stuff? And what about Targray? Was he kept hostage by the ODs? Or was he a test? If he was a test, there must have been some way to replace him since you're clearly stated to be one of many undead coming to this land to "cure their ailing mind". Is he an illusion or construct? If you try to really dig into the reasons, you find out that ds2 as it is doesn't make great sense and that notstein was thrown in there because he was popular in ds1. PS4 player here, I haven't had problems anywhere nearly as bad as what /dsg/ complains about. At worst I'll run into maybe 2 glaives a day. I see a CCS once every 3-4 days, and gotthards players actually do more than rolling L1s. I play at 99, so I might just be playing with other 99-100s who avoid the metafaggotry at higher levels. Manikins are the worst enemy to ever be put in a Souls game. They get one hit in and unless you have poised stacked they stagger-lock and get in a free series of 5 hits. You're dead because of a poke.

Hey guys, DS3 is my first souls game and I have some newbie questions:

I've been looking around for guides on what each stat does, so to speak - what benefits they carry, whether or not they're beneficial in the early game or late, what kind of build I should take for specific weapons and whatnot - but I can't find anything solid, so I've come to you all.
I'm running a deprived cleric since deprived's stats are balanced and I have a hard on for healers and undead smiting - what kind of stats should I be running?
I'm dumping most of my points into faith, but it's the more subtle stats I'm worried about. For example, when does one start investing heavily in Endurance? How much should be allocated into vigor? Is leaving Vitality alone a bad idea? Will I get fucked over later in the game for dumping into faith and attunement?

I spent all night grinding up a cleric in DaS2 only to get ravaged in Earthen Peak and realize that miracles are horse shit in DaS2. Totally mediocre. Great. You can fucking heal people. By standing still and trying to get them to also stand still. You can also spew lightning everywhere and hit nothing for heavily nerfed damage. So yeah. Got to SM 170,000 and then deleted the character in Earthen Peak. The combination of mediocrity and an area I'd like to erase from the game and replace with a gray voice made me lose all desire to continue.

Open your stats menu, look at the bottom, then hit the button that brings up the "Help" function. Then you can look at each stat and be told what it does. Do the same thing on your equipment screens and anywhere else you can.

After that, the only thing you need do is pay attention to what resources you find lacking when fighting through areas and pick up the stats that you think will shore up those weaknesses and/or increase your strengths. You'll have already created tactics and strategies for dealing with enemies and areas and should from that be able to extrapolate what sorts of tools you find most useful for clearing content.

You should do your first run blind (as in, with no further assistance from /dsg/ or the internet at large), applying this methodology and thinking as intelligently as you can about the choices you make in order to conquer the game.

There's really nothing else required to play through successfully, everything you need is explained in game and only requires that you draw the connections appropriately.

Bloodborne for some of us, DS2 dual wield for the rest. Former for me, shields just feel icky after the raw sensation of parry-only sidearms.

What's funny about DS2, though, is that while it introduced powerstancing, I think a lot of the most successful dual-wield was just having a fast weapon in your left and a long weapon in your right.

I've already looked at the help function's explanations, in addition to the wiki, but they didn't tell me how important those stats were.
For example: Armour seems almost worthless to me right now, apart from looking nice, so I've completely ignored Vitality. However, I only just defeated Yhorm. Perhaps later in the game armour is crucial; ergo, is the Vit stat important?
Same argument for Endurance.

If you're going to play DS2 and level faith at least go for sorcery too so you can have fun with spells and hex, something DS3 is shit at.

There's also a sword catalyst called the Blue Flame. Buffing it with Crystal Magic Weapon also buffs the spells it casts.

Powerstancing these things magic infused is like perma double farron flashsword that can also cast shit.
