Thanks for the suggestions. An anon already said earlier that her proportions are not good, and this supposed to be an improved version. Just as a side note, she's not in the usual 7,5 size, but in 8, so she's supposed to be taller than an average women. Maybe if I make her head a little bit bigger? For now I just want to finish every animation to have something to work with, and come back for polishing later.

On the animation, I'm following the Richard Williams book. Each cycle has 8 frames, but when she runs, I play 12 frames, and when she walks, I play 8, since the book suggests 3 steps per second for running, and 2 for walking.

I bought it before Krita supported animation, which I might switch to later on.
Before using aseprite I was drawing frame by frame in krita and manually making the frames and such from there. It was a huge pain.
The fact that aseprite is basically MSpaint with layers and animation makes it well worth it to me.
Having that said I got it threw steam on sale for $10CAD. If you want to try it without buying it you can download the sourcecode from their github and compile it.

I don't know that you would want to go with a studio name based on the name of your first game, although maybe that is a smart indie movie (stand out more)

It's been a long time since I've used regex, but the asterisk character is a special character to tell regex to expect 0 or many of a character repeating(I think)

I prefer to avoid polygon unfolding, as they break the illusion you have something physical.

You're animating at 33 frames per second, which is a bit excessive. A lot of hand drawn animation will be closer to 15 to 20 frames per second.

Beyond that, learn to be a little bit lazy.
This is half the frame rate of yours, with about only 14 of the original frames. Copy and paste will save your life.

Further more, using software conductive towards animation will REALLY save your bacon. what are you using?

Vidya gaem dev is a lot more than just pretty pictures, and you're constantly learning new skills to make a game.
There isn't a person in this thread who hasn't learned something new on the game they're currently making.

If you're afraid of learning one skill, then you aren't going to make it in game dev. Give up.
If you can accept learning skills one at a time you can eventually reach your goal.

Right now I'm balls deep making the 60th sprite for the first character of a game that going to have 20 or 30 different characters. That doesn't even get be started on the back grounds, there's going to be so many of those to draw.
I've programmed a good deal of how the first character should work, and thanks to OOP the second character should only be half as much programming maybe.

Eventually I'm going to have to learn how to make music, or pay/enslave my friends to do it for me.

Game dev is a lot of work.

Unity is the slowest fucking UI I've ever had installed on any computer in my life, and while I try to command-line as much as possible, whenever I accidentally open software manager it starts shitting all over my cores. Yeah man. Just apply it to the alpha value of the light as you're drawing it and let the light go on for the whole of the viewport. If the light is actually gonna be used for something(activating switches, stunning enimies, etc) you could use that alpha value to determine distance from the flashlight, including mirrors, to make sure the player is close enough. i.e. 2ft from source has equal intensity as 1ft from source to mirror and 1ft from mirror reflection to object.

This webm isn't that great due to fps but it's there.

It changes x direction, accelerates, and changes the speed of the fan animation based on the same controls as the rockets. The issue was getting it to not restart the acceleration every time a rocket was fired, only when the invisible object I have for the cursor isn't already in the same direction it was moving.

Each time it comes in contact with enemy fire ( red orbs ) it reflects as a blue orb ( seen 6 seconds into webm ).

The messy red sword and dagger are easier to read than the messy red hammer, but they do look a bit odd, I don't think it's easy to have messy looking sprites at such a low resolution. It might be better to keep things clean. The rest are easy to read and look good though.

i spent today working out a better code for my pushable pawns. I can now make switches that require specific pawns to be moved on top of them in order to trigger. I'm trying to work up some puzzles including switches, block pushing and laser trips.

I ditched my code for the ledge grabbing system, though. It was dynamic enough to work on any ledge-like geometry, but that included stuff like doorframes. I have a less clunky and more specific method I'll try later.

Sleep schedule issues are a nightmare. I've got a habit of staying up late which I've had for at least 6 years, and it basically means that on weekdays I only get 4-6 hours of sleep, and on weekends I end up getting 12-13.

Have you tried Melatonin? Pop 2-3 depending on the pill size right at the time you want your cycle reset to, and it'll basically bomb your system. A few days of that could knock you back into equilibrium.

The stuff works magic. Last year I had an issue where I was trying to reset my schedule, but just ended up getting 1-2 hours of sleep per night and then being unable to get to sleep for another ~20 hours. Basically felt like I was dead for an entire week. Popped a few of those things and it fixed me right up.

My body is messed up. I get tired when the sun comes up and stay energized all night. I can force myself to stay up until the next night comes, take sleeping pills and get a good night's sleep, wake up the next morning with the sunrise, and that night I'll have so much energy I stay up until the sun comes up the next morning and fall asleep. Good advice for anyone. I could use more exercise of any kind to be honest. I was thinking about getting into biking. War FPS thing. Got explosive barrages working to randomly repeat in the background of the game, which is nice for ambiance. Have planting explosives and blowing apart specific enemy equipment working too. Now it just needs to look less ugly. I really have to retexture all that fucking terrain.

Yeah, I'm not really worried about transitioning to it if I need to at some point. I'm just sort of sad that you can't even purchase Maya LT anymore. You usually disable your hosts file and you're good. I have an academic 3ds max license even though I'm not studying anything game related (mba master race) but since you're no longer enrolled I don't think that's an option for you.
