I'm pretty sure part of the reason chua and aurin are so popular is because they're advertising the furry races most.
I swear if they gave the other non-human races more screentime they'd be at least much more closely populated than they are now.
Right now the first two races you tend to see outside of humans are anime catgirls and bazinga rats, so people that like those are gonna be the ones most likely to check the game out.
Most of the other races get so little time in the spotlight new people probably can't even tell they're playable.

I am having a hard time finding a build I like on my warrior
waaaay back when I used to run t whirlwind and self dispel, back when t8 ww gave 40% move speed and an interrupt armor, and the self dispell was 2 debuff. It made staying on people easy fun.
Now whirlwind has a shorter channel and just feels so underwhelming to use. I don't think the new t8 bonus works very well, and only getting 25% move speed isn't so hot. With lagginess sticking on someone is really hard unless I lay down stuns so I can try to land a ripsaw. It doesn't feel very good.

Actually, you know what? Attunement back then might've been rough and coarse and it made you go everywhere, but that was fuckin fun.
It gave you, like, six different mini-events to do. I remember that shit. It wasn't the most exciting things in the world, but they were unique and actually made you do something. I invaded a ship to do Lights Out puzzles and not get caught. I beat up a fuckin giant snail that wasn't a world boss. I controlled a mech on an asteroid in space. I beat up that dumb fire elemental in Wilderrun that's STILL THERE TODAY. I beat all the adventures and dungeons on silver before the patches were out AND I traveled around both continents with my guild at the time to beat up world bosses. That means I had to go across the ocean from Wilderrun to Auroria, then travel THROUGH Illium to get a WB in Deradune. That shit was dumb because there were no teleports like there are now, and if you died, you rezzed BACK IN WILDERRUN. But I did it.
And now they're just selling raid keys. Fuck. They need to add the old attunement back in. Make it an optional thing. Slap an achievement and a title on it and call it a day. Now I'm peeved as all hell. I'm going back to raking in the dosh from the event.

Pretty much. Same core problems with the game that drove people off still exist now. Would name them, but I would be accused of blogging, because there are too many to summarize in a short way.
Queues are getting longer for vets even as a tank/dps character or healer/dps character.
So it's still the same old game, with a population of maybe 2000 concurrent players as a quick guess versus the 1500 that the in game census done in may showed. I guess that's a success? Seeing fewer and fewer people every week. I don't blame them. IMO the game is designed around being not fun, annoying, and tedious is so many areas.

Carbine are literally a company of those retards who think "More people in the instance means its better". The game is at its strongest when doing Shiphands and dungeons, RMT is all but a waste of resources since it requires people to do a raid that most people still haven't even seen screenshots of to get geared for it, they need to just start cranking out Shiphands, Dungeons, and BGs like nobody's business so there's actual fucking content to do. Concurrent players are usually a very small fraction of the total. Remember that there are still 30K subscribed to the subreddit.
Another way to look at it is the average play time per person. Say 2 hours a day. If there are 1K concurrent on Steam (which doesn't count people using the original client, like me), then there should be around 12K per day. Though that doesn't account for overlap at any given time, so let's say 10K log in per day. I'd guess active accounts are still a few times that due to people who log in more infrequently, can only play on weekends, etc.

ANYTHING is better than being another goddamn shitlord in completely runeless gear.
Runes make up like 80% of a piece of gear's stats, so you'll be significantly more effective than most newbie PvPers as long as you've got something in all your slots.
It doesn't even have to be set runes or specific element setups until you get maxed out orange PvP gear, just don't leave anything empty.Please, I'm so tired of seeing people in runeless gear.

Water/fire is a completely different fight than fire/life. They get different abilities (albeit somewhat similar) and different midphases.

I kinda like the idea of the pairs fights.
Like, it's cool how they always have their own specific mechanics that will always be present for a specific element (Wind's cone attacks and counterattack shield, Life's shared health, etc) and then they get only a couple other mechanics unique to each pairing to make the fight different.
It's nice since once you learn each element's mechanics you can go into any pair and already know part of how the fight's going to work.

I don't even pug dungeons anymore because no matter what happens, it's not going to be fun. Playing with clueless retards who don't care enough to learn isn't fun and neither is playing with people who want to skip half the dungeon. pvp is the same way, it's hardly ever fun. You either steamroll or get steamrolled. Only rarely do both sides stand a fighting chance against each other. One side has healers that are impossible to kill and stalkers that blow up your asshole in 2 seconds while the other side is just fodder.

I kind of feel the same way, but leaning more towards the overgeared part.
Undergeared and don't know what you're doing? Most of the time a single person who does can carry the whole group. It makes it more challenging but it's still fun.
Overgearing it though? Dungeons are overgeared as soon as you hit 60 now, thanks to Arcterra. It gets even worse when people in raid gear show up. Because of gear scaling someone in DS gear ruins the whole run, since it becomes less about coordination and more of a zerg. You don't even need the optional stuff to get silver now with how everything can be blitzed.
It's pretty much why I stop playing every time I come back to this game. The slight nerfs to things like interrupt armor mean that on the one hand you can carry bad people, but on the other hand that DS geared fellow has literally no need for everyone else to be there. It sucks.
