Guys I need help on the Shin patch for FE4

So I'm on chapter 2 (?) of the second gen, and I'm having problems keeping Shanny/Patty alive. Within the first three turns, one of the two dies from not being able to move far enough away from the enemy. Going to the left to get away from the oncoming enemies gets them trapped, and they can't clear the enemies in the south out fast enough to get through without getting killed from behind.

what do I do to get them out alive? do I just go without them until I can get corpul and the valkyrie staff?

They're both units with solid niches. Kaze is built to take care of mages and can debuff, Sumia is kind of similar in that she beats mages and myrmidons with ease. Sumia's low strength is somewhat salvaged by how absolutely broken pair up is too. She also has the Beast Killer to take care of horse units.

Every unit has a niche, but it doesn't mean that they're entirely worth having on the team just for that. Debuffing can be taken care of by your maid/butler and provides the utility of giving the MC better support and healing. Don't forget that you also have an additional 2 ninjas who can fight units other than mages and actually stand a chance.

Cordelia is better than Sumia in combat prowess and comes at a higher level/stats, which Sumia may exceed at that point, but unlikely due to her growths.

A lot of people like putting Jakob into GK. Not to mention both of them tend to fall off as combat units later, while Kaze gets better and not only that, he gives good pair up stats in speed and movement.

Sumia comes earlier than Cordelia, and by the time you get Cordelia she should have at least a B support, maybe even an A depending on how the early paralogues go. Not to mention she's one of the very few units that can double as soon as you get her, which helps her offense considerably. She does fall off later on in the game because her strength starts to fail, but she's not bad.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the two ninjas, and in that case I suppose that's entirely possible. I've used Kaze in 3 routes and he's always wound up the most useless of the three, so I'm biased against his shit. All of them are good candidates for stat boosters, but Kaze would literally need an army of energy drops to do anything other than 1 damage and a couple debuffs.

I'm mostly talking about in Nohr, where you don't really have any replacement ninja. In Hoshido, I can see people replacing him with Kagero and in Revelation I don't think he's very good.

In Awakening, you need to keep in mind Sumia's speed is vastly higher than other units at the start. She's starting with 13 speed without pair up. No one before that comes close, with most of the other units having about 6-7 speed. The difference is insane, especially considering enemies start with 10-11 speed on Lunatic, which means a pair up allows her to double things other units can't. And pair up doesn't make everyone usable. Ricken is still garbage with pair up. Gregor is still iffy with pair up. Sumia makes killing certain enemies much easier early on.

And I know Sumia's fast. What I'm saying is that alone, she can't do shit cause she starts with a spear in a mostly spear and bow based chapter with low bases, and the next couple chapters aren't very conducive to training a support unit. Like I said, pair up is her only viability other than taking Kellam's Javelin (which is an item that any spear user can benefit from having).

She's just not a very good unit without devoting kills/items that could be going to other units that could benefit from them as well. Granted, you're not really using a lot of excellent units in the first gen, so it's totally understandable to use her, she's just primarily pair up material.

Most units don't do shit alone. Even MU doesn't go alone, he's paired up. Still, even on her first chapter she can take on an archer better than many other units. You're mainly using Fred and Robin, but a pair up with Chrom does allow her to double the Archers, which is 18 damage, which is higher than any other unit besides those two. She can even potentially ORKO them, although the luck required for that is kinda silly so I won't bother. Donny's chapter also comes with the Killer Lance, which Fred doesn't need at all, so her only real competition to use it early is Sully, which I could understand but it depends on what you're looking for.

Given that the FE characters who come in are just shades of their former selves, I'd say the weapons are just shades of their former selves too. Eh, the Awakening kids trump the fates kids as units. Morgan can solo the entire game on hard mode, something Kana could never hope to achieve. Hell, part of the reason I never grew all too attached to Awakening as a game was because Morgan trivialized every map once I got her.

Well, in terms of character, I think its because one, they're better integrated in the story than the Fates kids; not only that time travel is more reasonable then the Deeprealms, but also that their backstories are better. They were from a doomed world, so there's just a better base than what the Fates kids had. You can see that with how Heirs of Fate doesn't work as well as the Future Past.

And I also think that the Awakening kids all knowing each other goes a long way too. There's more chemistry between them all, because they actually were a group. I think they do feel like a group of comrades, versus whatever the Fates kids are.
