The way I see it, they're technocyte, but not true infested. They were made special, as mentioned in Rhino Prime.

Mostly human, once human, it doesn't matter. The technocyte allows you to bond organic and synthetic together. They're human enough for the operators to 'dream' as them, but strong enough to channel the power of the void.

Turn focus into something that's actually cool instead of having the warframes poop out a little kid who flies around shooting a laser beam. It'd be a hell of an overhaul but a system that allows the warframes to incorporate one of their special attacks into their melee would be cool as fuck. For example, Volt could use his focus to leech all nearby sources such as consoles, lights, and enemy shields to electrify his melee weapon to deal a massive amount of damage equivalent to the energy he siphoned that to nearby targets. Valkyrie could use focus to go berserk while still equipping her melee weapon, holding it one hand while extending one set of claws with her offhand, allowing her to chain together a more devastating combo.

Sorties were a great first step. Unfortunately, they also seem to be the last step.

A great second step would be to feature sortie-esque alerts, e.g. lv80 10-min survival, shotguns only, with good rewards like 15 r5 cores. Throw in 4 of these per day and you instantly have endgame

The best endgame would be customized void missions. Craft your own goddamn key. The harder you make the mission, the better rewards you can get. The more you tweak it, the more expensive it gets. The more you use a key, the more it degrades until you can repair it through... I don't know, void traces or some shit.

So you basically make your own nightmare alerts. 'No shields' and 'grineer incursion' with 'elemental resistance' gets you 5-10 R5 cores or something. But if you push the base level for the mission up, that 5-10 cores becomes 15-20 or 25-30.
