Aiyoku is an awful starter VN. The main thing is that the VN is like 50 hours long at a normal pace. While it took a semi-pro like me just a week to read it, a beginner will take MONTHS, and that will not be a good time. Aiyoku is popcorn and it's not good to take months reading it. All the routes in Aiyoku are basically bundled into the main plot so it's not like a moege where you can get away with reading 1 route and feeling the satisfaction of completion, and then pretty much start a whole new game in another route.

Furthermore, Aiyoku is actually pretty damn good, so it's a shame to shit on it with bad Japanese. Reading like 5-10 buffer titles before going for kamige is something everyone should do. Just pick some random moege and nukige that look good.

As for Aiyoku as a second... better, but still not good. It's just too long. It's an enormous game. There's no reason to particularly play Aiyoku second or third, it's not like there's only three total games he wants to play. Pick shorter games first, fucking long-ass games later.

Of course you should read what you want. But reading things you want to read that aren't also fucking legendary kamige of which relatively few exist, instead of a horde of good but not that great games, is silly to me. Because, seriously, you WILL drastically lessen the experience with bad Japanese. These are novels after alll.

If you know you're wrecking it so bad that you'll need to re-read the whole thing later why even read it in the first place? Starting off with nice moege and nukige that you can wreck and not feel compelled to re-read later is the most logical and effective. And as mentioned Aiyoku in particular is a big ol time investment and heavily plot focused, a re-read won't be anything like a first read, you'll be spending a huge amount of time going through plot events you already know about, that would be miserable.

You're assuming moege and nukige are bad and will make someone hate Japanese which is simply not true. They're pretty good, and I don't "love" moege or anything, they're just generally good reads, if a bit boring at times. I remember VERY well what it's like to be a beginning, and do you know what I did as a beginner? Read a bunch of moege and nukige! And I remember fucking those up pretty hard! I'm glad I blew my beginner load on those and not Eustia.

Eustia has plenty boring parts (hello, Eris drama? hello, most of Irene's route?) so really you're defeating yourself here. And when it comes down to it, you can skip through some boring parts in moege/nukige no problem, but if you skip something in Aiyoku you're doubtlessly missing something important. See? Moege/nukige win every time as beginner reading material.
