Okay, so i've not played for a LONG time, didn't buy HoT cause i felt a bit disillusioned after going through base GW2 and the first Living Story.

Did they abbandon the idea to reintroduce Mursaat completely? Also when the hell did these new chumbos officially become the new "heroes". wasnt Divinities Edge supposed to make a big comeback or something, yet from a sideline perspective it looks like they're basically on the bench for most of it.

Literally all the post-HoT content updates have involved the Mursaat anon. All three wings of the raid involved the White Mantle to some degree, and the last few "current events" updates that add little champions and events to the world have involved bandits who are named quite similar to White Mantle types ("X the Y" etc), bearing Mantle weapons and badges.

Why the hell absolutely none of that was touched on in the trailer when it's been their entire focus in both Raids and their LS-ramp up is beyond me though. I'm not sure who thought this "trailer" was a good idea and okayed it, but they're an idiot.

We gave them more than a year and they still completely undelivered. Time isn't an issue anon. Their designers have no idea of how to deliver enough content to players to be satisfied, they think we're content with things that can be done in the matter of half an hour. That wasn't so bad for a fortnightly update, but quarterly? Quarterly it would have to -at least- be as long as HoT's story, because we're only getting FOUR of the fuckers per year.

But they will under-deliver, just as they always do, and we will be mad, just as we always are.

I've been playing it during this content drought, it's much improved since the beta days. Pretty fun and lets you engage in GW2 style wacky-class shenanigans. You can't shoot lasers out of a greatsword like in GW2 but you can be a lightning mage who rocks a hammer and runs around in medium armor instead of having to be some chump in robes poledancing with a staff.

Besides, Norn are a huge disappointment. They had potential but Anet has largely ignored their more unique features (like the shapeshifting), not given them any sort of racial proficiency aside from being strong, and then even sweeps that out from under them by having Norn commoners being pansy chickenshits like human ones, despite belonging to a race of heroes. And it's not like they're even the odd men/women out, there's SO MANY of the shits who cower and run when danger comes around.

If Norn are your sole thing in this game I don't know how you stay with it, Anet just shits on them constantly.

The story provided by the living story isn't anything to brag about, I say the best update story-wise is the one where they introduced the Priory secret collections and that was after a new Head of Narrative Design was put in place. The first season of the living story released dungeons, LONG dungeons, with world bosses like the Marionette and the myriad of boss fights at the Siege of Lion's Arch. Tequatl also saw a huge revamp during this first season.

LS1's events were good for the game. The ancient karka event, the Scarlet Briar open world sieges where a random zone turned into a dangerous battlefield, holiday events intermingled with living story. LS1 even mixed with Fractals of the Mists. The rewards were unique armor skins, gizmos, titles, etc.

Apparently it was too stressful for the team to handle but they handled it and people liked it. Multiple areas of the game were updated and it all had a narrative behind it, even SAB.

Then LS2 began. Long waits, questionable story, no more special skin rewards (holiday skins also suffered as they were sold in the gemstore, breaking GW1 habits), no more dungeons (abandoned between LS1 and LS2), and the only reason people felt compelled to stick around was for the story and the ascended stats that were locked behind the achievements. Occasionally LS2 released PvE maps, but so did LS1 with the Labyrinthine Cliffs and Southsun Cove.

LS2 wasn't as dynamic, felt stagnant and smaller in scale. BUT it was permanent content, one of LS1's greatest flaws.

More story means a lot of voice acting in multiple languages, coding for that voice acting, trying to balance the difficulty of the story instances to fit both hardcore and pamby wamby casual standards, and the clippy cutscenes. LS1 barely had any cutscenes, something to keep in mind.

LS1 felt better managed, more active, and more productive than LS2. LS3 is going to take 2-3 months between episodes, so they better cover as much ground as LS1 did.

Actually back when i played through HoT the first time with my main and Eir was killed off out of the blue while the other shitty Mary Sue's got to live i seriously considered dropping the game for a brief while but couldn't bring myself to do it once i started getting the hang of HoT's endgame content in DS and so on

I guess i mainly just keep playing it for the mere fact of the Norn's presence in the game alone itself. Like i said i'm just looking for that experience where you get to play a viking faction with norse themes and stuff
