It honestly depends on the venue. However, from my experience you only have to pay venue fee which is usually around $5, if you take your Wii U with you they'll use it as a tournament set up and your venue fee will be waived. You don't really have to do this except if you want to save a little money, usually there is enough wii u set ups.

Playing locally is a great way to level up or just have fun, my suggestion is to enter the tourney anyway if you can. It's honestly fun don't worry about results especially for your first time.

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with forming a discord, the problem is the way it is being handled here. Literally nothing but discord posts in a general meant to focus on open discussion of Smash Bros. It's quite ridiculous and it's a big part of the reason I no longer join it, I appreciate how open a general thread can be .. it has nothing to do with attention.

It's called perfect pivoting, you do it by flicking the stick the opposite way you are moving. For what you're asking, try running a fair distance(use a slower character to start learning), and hold the stick in the opposite direction until you see the turnaround animation. Pressing the attack button will cause your character to do a forward tilt in the new direction while canceling the previous momentum. Of course some characters slide more the other while turning around, try out some different characters and see which one you're more comfortable with. Kirby, Dedede and Meta Knight are pretty touchy character imo. They all have a bit of trouble against top tier characters, but remember, a master of any character can give any top tier a hard time. If you'd like my two cents on possible another character, is recommend Mario, as his playstyle is pretty close to the other 3 characters you play, he's also good for beginners, as he's fairly balanced and has good combo potential, but let's get back to your other characters, you'll have to give me a sec, as in typing this on my phone

Every Meta Knight main ever has a pocket kirby, and every Kirby main ever has a Meta Knight. It's fate.

I think MK is more fun but im very biased since ive been maining him for almost 2 years now but he's a really simple character. Most of your moves are too laggy to throw out randomly in neutral (utilt, jab, aerials, specials) so your neutral is mainly just dashgrab dashattack and dtilt, with fsmash (safe as fuck) and ftilt used too. If you want to use MK, work on your combos off of dash attack and dashgrab as mk gets a lot from them. He also is amazing offstage so fish for gimps from like bair whenever you can.

Watching top players play the character is a great way to learn, just take notes. For MK I recommend watching MKLeo, Ito, Abadango (not a main anymore though), and Tyrant. The only notable Kirby I know is Mike Kirby, and D3 is dead but Girthquake has a decent one I think. If you decide to go with MK, feel free to ask any questions since I have a fair amount of experience with learning MK.

So starting off with Kirby, we'll talk about his strength and weaknesses. He's VERY good at recovering and air combat. His back air(bair) and forward air(fair) and great for spacing away your opponent or just putting pressure on your opponent. With 5 jumps, he can gimp very easily, meaning you can catch your opponent off the stage and hit them away to the point where they can't recover at VERY low percents. His smashes are strong, his down throw combos into down air(dair) and fair. Other than that, sadly he lacks in a few core elements, he's not the fastest in the air, which is crucial in sm4sh, and he's the (2nd?) lightest character in the game, he'll die super quick. However, if your careful and master recovering and mix ups, he's a decent character and gives many other hard times because of his gimp potential.

Next is Meta Knight, and like >>148097868 said, he's a lot of fun to play. Unlike Kirby, Meta Knight(MK) is all about speed and getting up close any personal. His speed allow many attacks to be hit consecutively(strings). For example, one of his most reliable combos is his up air(uair) string. His uair string is just as it sounds, since MK has multiple jumps, (5?) uairing an opponent in the air sends them with just the slightest knockback to continue the string of uairs. That being said, most of his aerials can string, like fair and dair, but he's no slouch to ground fighting. His dash attack is very safe, and pops opponents up to start a uair string. His tilts are used more for starting combos, and his smashes are decent. Up smash is ok, and has decent cool down, but his down smash is where it's out. SUPER fast, and has low cooldown(endlag), so it's safe, but doesn't kill all to well, it's used more for sending someone off the stage. Forward smash hits hard, but has A LOT of endlag, I don't recommend it unless you ABOSUTELY know your opponent will fall for it. His specials are quick but all have high endlag, and if you use them while off stage, you're dead. His up b is your best friend, it quickly catches opponents and can be used to kill off the top. You can also combo it from an uair string, so it's really good, just use is resourcefully though. Like Kirby, he's light, so he'll easily die off of some pretty big hits, and he doesn't hit as hard as Kirby. It's all a matter of match up, if you need speed, MK, if you need power and gimps, Kirby

Forgive me, >>148098335 is right, it's forward throw, not down throw. Thanks Anon, I didn't really expect anyone else to read it. Any way, on to Dedede, holy shit Dedede is a BEAST. He's ALL about overpowering your opponents, all his attacks hit like a truck, and can quickly rack up damage as well as kill light to mid weight characters. This motherfucker IS the fucking king, so you shouldn't let little pussies push your around, you can take the damage. His hammer isn't part of his body, so using his aerials is fairly safe(it's called a disjointed hitbox, it's an attack that hits, but if you hit the hitbox of the attack, the character is still safe, MK has it cause of his sword and certain attacks from other non-sword characters have a DH). This fat fuck is just that, a fat fuck. While some attacks, like his fair, bair, jab, and nair(when you're in the air and don't press anything except for the attack button) are fairly fast and safe, all his other attacks are slow, predictable, and not the safest. I'd recommend using safe attacks until you see an opening to use a heavier, slower attack. His forward b is a gordo, which is projectile and is fucking annoying as shit. You can influence the speed by holding a different direction after he tosses the gordo, keep in mind opponents can hit it back though. Use gordos sparingly, or use them a lot to force you opponent to approach you. His up b has super armor, which means if he's hit while he's using it, he'll take damage, but no knockback. It also sends the opponent straight down at the apex of the attack(called a spike) and the end of the move buries the opponent of you hit them, but it's super predicable, be careful around characters with counters. Other than that, the penguin face fat fuck is slow as shit and should be used to counter bigger characters and some mid weight characters, he's easily comboed and can get outsped by lots of light characters that have speed.

That's about it on my end, ask me for questions if you have 'em, but some other Anons would be a little more help, as I don't really play either. I will say this though, CHOOSE ONE AND STICK WITH. I can't stress this enough, learning the essential is good and all, but that's not what makes a characters good, it's the player. With more knowledge of each individual, the easier and more innovative a character can be, pick a main, one that fits your play style, experiment, and stick with it for a while. Of course other characters can be pocketed, you don't only have to play one, just get to know your main enough that you can knock some heads. Have fun man, and good luck!

Smash is a fun way to meet all kinds of people, especially since you already share a common interest. If you're new to the smash scene and are in high school or college, ask around for fellow players, I know I wouldn't turn down a game with someone. Still on the topic of school, there are probably a couple gaming clubs that you could possibly take a look at. If you're not, that's where the good ol' internet comes into play, forums on reddit, Facebook, and other smash related website are filled with players that would gladly play you, despite your amount of experience. 4chan also has the occasional nice guy that will help out, play you, and give you pointers on your play style. As for tournaments, local Facebook groups are available for all areas, some have a little more traveling than others, but if you're confident in your skills, it's a quick way to meet people as well as earn some money, I've made about $700 at my local tournaments. Characters don't define a player, some are annoying, but if the player you're fighting is someone you're close with and enjoy being with, there's no reason to really look out for certain characters, just ask them not to play that character, or better yet, learn the match up, good luck anon, and just know that there's always someone to play
