You basically evade lance again.
They changed it so that the third poke of the lance is a windup that does more damage, but if you take striker style you get the old third poke back again.
Also, the stab after you charge does more damage in striker.
So you basically just evadelance again and then use the charge to close distance.

So many weapons and styles to pick from, I'm overwhelmed by the choice. What combos have you played and liked the most so far? I've mostly been toying with the charge blade styles, and some of them have really tripped me up compared to 4U's controls, like Aerial not having a charging A, or being unable fully charge the shield unless you're in Axe mode. That mid-air AED is sexy though.

I appreciate that there's the option on the N3DS to use the extra shoulder buttons for 2 of them, but that's still only 2, and half of the weapons I want to use will likely make use of Striker style.
It'll probably be better when I can mess around with the configuration of my bottom screen, but until then I'm a sad dude.

The point of using skills in the first place is to optimize your offense/defense with your weapon of choice so that you can finish quests faster

You're not proving anything by choosing not to use skills until end game of Generations/MH4U, all you're doing is delaying the inevitable and making things harder on yourself because you choose not to use something that everyone uses

Weapons like the Greatsword have their damage output augmented tenfold with FastCharge and CritDraw, making every hunt a breeze, you're choosing not to do that and making the hunt sluggish on purpose

The fact that you're insulting people for taking gaijin hunter's advice on using a very powerful skill early on just makes you a complete autist

Hey. I played MH4U on release after a friend convinced me to get it. With the release of Generations I'm wondering if I should pick up the N3DS Generations XL instead of using the circle pad pro, it feels clunky and was a pain to use, but I'll have to shill $200. Thoughts?

I think Guild Insect Glaive is really the only worthwhile thing to use consecutively
I though Adept would be good on it but the fact that you can't recall your kinsect makes it garbage (you really need those nectars)
Aerial is okay, I guess, but the weapon itself doesn't need it because its damage output doesn't come from the air
I don't have an opinion on Striker yet, because I haven't seen all the skills for the Insect Glaive, but for the most part, I feel it's unnecessary

I had both and the original+CPP was more comfortable for me than the vanilla N3DS. Since the CPP doesn't fit the N3DS I bought a grip and now it's right as rain again.

First: Always charge your bow.
Lv.1/2 charges are shit and should never be spammed if you don't know what you're doing.
Lv.3/4 charges are the key to doing damage, as they're a 50/70% boost to damage respectively.

Second: Power Coatings are a must, and you should always bring combines for more.
They're a massive 50% boost to your damage, so if you can't use them on your bow, get the Power C+ skill so that you can.

Third:
Aim for weakpoints.
You can only carry 70 Power Coatings total with combines, so every shot counts.

Lastly: Critical Distance.
Just like bowgun ammo, Arrow types have ideal ranges where they deal extra damage.
When you're in ideal/critical range, you deal an extra 50% damage; get too close, or go outside of that range, and your damage starts to drop off.
You can tell that you're in critical range when your screen shakes, and the hitspark is big and bright.

All of these boosts stack with each other, so it's important to get them all down if you don't want to spend half an hour on each hunt.

Pellet Up is a 30% boost to Spread-type arrows, While Rapid Up is 10%.
Power Coatings give a 50% boost to raw, while Close Range Coatings simply remove the damage penalty for firing too close, without giving any extra bonuses to your shots.
Unless you use Steve's bow, which grants a 50% raw bonus to C.Range Coatings.
