When Queen Eglantine turns 14, she orders the invasion of the Emirate of Hijaz, across the narrow Red Sea, to secure it as a possession of the Egyptian crown. Although Jerusalem borders Hijaz and, if anything, should be the power to expand within Arabia, Aubry's alliance with his niece prevents him from refusing her call to arms; he will have to assist her in securing the Emirate, at the risk of his own power. The only consolation the King has is that the Muslim world will be left truly reeling if their dual holy cities can be captured.

There is other poor news surrounding Eglantine: she is betrothed to Philaretos Angelos, the brother of the current King of Italy, Pelagios Angelos. It appears as if the Egyptian throne will slip from the hands of the Aleramici dynasty after Eglantine's death, much to the displeasure of Baudouin; it will lose him his guaranteed ally to the southwest. At least that branch of the Angelos clan is properly Catholic, and diplomacy between Aegyptus and Jerusalem under their rule might not be impossible.

Shortly after Aubry leaves his army camp at Monreal to join the fighting in Hijaz, Botokhui sends a letter to him informing him that their many dalliances while she was at camp with him have resulted in a child. An excited Aubry eagerly rushes into the Muslim hinterland to secure victory, so that he might be back in Jerusalem in time for the birth. The Mohammedan put up almost no fight, and Aubry manages to make it back in time for the birth of his second son.

Aubry wishes to name him Philippe, but his wife isn't having it. "You named our first son," she reminded him, looking menacing in spite of the babe cradled in her arms. "Am I your wife, or am I meant to be a slave? This is a second son, and I should name him." Aubry, the fool he was, believed she would choose a reasonable name if given the opportunity, and agreed to permit her to choose.

She chose Temujin, after her own father.

"Boto," he sighed, "you cannot name our son after a Mongol warlord, especially one who isn't Christian. Father or not."

"Look at him!" the girl shouted, holding her son up to his father. "He is my spitting image! He takes after my blood, not your own. And by your own laws he is not to be King, so what qualm might you have? That your subjects might look askance? Are you so cowardly?"

She was lying down with the child once again held to her breast, but her eyes flashed as if she were riding into battle. Aubry sighed. "We cannot name him Temujin because none of my people will be able to pronounce it properly. We must at least make an effort to name him something that we can speak." Botokhui disagreed, vehemently, and they continued to fight over the matter of a name for several days.

Until, that is, their little boy, who had been sickly since he was born, died a week later. The couple made up quickly after the loss of their son, and came to a compromise as their sorrowfully buried him: he would be known as Temoudjine, a French pronunciation of her father's name.

You know you could have just deleted them and rebuilt them? Assuming they are all from different provinces it takes 2-3 months if you have a stockpile

>war exhaustion hits 100 because my colonies are captured, though none of my cores or non-colonials are, militancy skyrockets
Colonies occupied don't increase WE. This is why its fucking painful to beat the UK out of india in the first place. You either let yourself be blockaded, suffered way too much attrition, or lost battles.

That's why SA is doing so well. Over time the white people just became black, their tans got darker every year until their very DNA changed and as their facial features started to change a new ruling class was born. 1994 was when the original settlers turned black, it takes 300 years you see and as most of the settlers arrived in 1694 that's why it happened.

In the midst of the anarchy in Arabia following the fall of the holy city of Mecca, a Mongol adventurer, Oljaitu Ganzorig, invades the northern Arabian desert, seizing booty and forcing tribes under his vassalage along the way.

Although Oljaitu is not a serious threat to Aubry, he does represent something of a problem. The King, now in his middle years, had not before considered the possibility that Mongol adventurers might venture outside the Horde to establish their own realms; in spite of his non-aggression pact with Arkhai Khan, he may not be as completely safe as he once believed.

With that in mind, Aubry decides to complete the work his father began years earlier by capturing the desert outpost of al-Jawf, which will give the King of Jerusalem fully control of all passes from the south.

Well, gents. The Franco-Prussian war was a long fought war, lasting almost 3 years. However, the results were nothing but positive. As a result of the Prussian victory, France surrendered the provinces of Elsass, Lothringen, Metz, and Sundgau to the Prussian state.
Immediately upon the French surrender (nothing out of the ordinary here), Wilhelm I von Hohenzollern approved the formation of a German state, a homeland for all Germans.
tl;dr: I have successfully formed the nation of Germany, r8 my CULTURAL blob.

By virtue of its position nigh to the coast and a constant military garrison which happily takes to slaughtering any natives who dare to resist the ruling order, Christian control in Mecca is maintained. Yet the situation in Medinah, far more inland, is a different story. Open riots against Christian rule have pushed out forces loyal to Queen Eglantine, forcing her to grant the territory to the current Hochmeister of the Teutonic Order, Rainers Challant, in the hopes that Teutonic forces can enter the city and pacify it.

The decision is a pleasant surprise for Aubry, who can now potentially look forward to the military support of the Teutonic Order's garrison in Medinah in any future wars against the Mohammedan.

After his return from campaigning in al-Jawf, Botokhui and Aubry indulge in their usual greeting, and the result of the coupling is yet another pregnancy.

Nine months later, another sickly little girl is born. Although Botokhui and Aubry both fear that she will not survive just as Temoudjine did not, Aubry nevertheless gives her a name: Eirene, after the mother he never met. Although he never knew her and never truly loved her, his father's dedication to her throughout the course of his remaining days convinced Aubry that he owed her respect.

Aubry suffered his first military defeat at Balqa in his niece's continuation war against the Sultan of Dimashq, who controlled a portion of Hijaz Emirate she did not yet hold sway over. In spite of his personal slaying of the Muslim commander, Aubry's forces were slightly outnumbered and seriously trounced; the Muslim holy order the Sultan of Dimashq made use of granted him elite troops which Aubry's levied forces could not compare with. Depressed and awaiting the calling-up of further levies, Aubry does what many a man would do in such a time and finds comfort in his wife.

Predictably, shortly after setting out on campaign again, Aubry receives the news that Botokhui is pregnant. Nine months pass and the war with the Sultan does not end, preventing Aubry from returning to her for the birth, but Botokhui's pregnancies are, by this point, a rather routine thing. She gives birth to a healthy baby girl who, in her husband's absence, she names Eleonore, "for I have always liked the sound of it," she told the midwife.

In other news, a Crusade for the tribal lands in Livonia has been called by Pope Theodorus III. Most see the Crusade as a joke, perhaps even as an excuse for the church itself to acquire more land. What Christian lord would wish to expend his wealth fighting for Livonia, of all places?

To refer to the appetite of Botokhui as "insatiable" would, perhaps, be the most greivous understatement that man could speak.

The moment that Aubry returned from the desert around Dimashq, tired from campaigning and filthy, Boto nevertheless practically dragged him to their chambers. Like clockwork, three months later she informed her husband that she was pregnant.

Calling Botokhui "fertile" would most likely be the second-most-grievous understatement man could speak.

"I doubt I shall ever have reason to question the faithfulness of Boto," a bemused Aubry wrote Yonefij, "for I can guess the birthdays of my children like clockwork: they're all nine months after I begin a campaign or nine months after I return from one!"

On the 23rd of December 1253, at just twenty-two years old, Botokhui gives birth to the couple's fifth child. For this son, the two decide to be novel and come to an agreement on the name. They decide upon Aubry, a name respected in Christendom and feared in the Horde, one representative of both parents.

The birth of a healthy second son causes Aubry to reconsider his prior decision to ignore the Crusade. Whilst a Crusade for Livonia cannot rightly be referred to as anything other than laughable, it would nevertheless be a way to gain both military experience and to acquire some real land for young Aubry, not merely as a vassal of his brother but as a King in his own right.

When Aubry discusses the situation with Botokhui, she urges him to go. "Experience will only make you greater, and place another of my sons on a throne," she nodded unashamedly. "You will be gone long, I know, and I will miss you. But there will be time to make up for that upon your return," she teased, with an absolutely predatory smile.

With his wife's approval--and the promise of a pleasant return--Aubry declares for the Crusade in March.

What I mean is that someone revived the Iberia debate a couple of days ago, he criticized that you could form the PLC but not Iberia, he got told to complain to HPM about the PLC.

Today, people criticized some of the unions you can form in the mod, amongst them the PLC, and HPM just flat out ignored them. So how can the thread regard him as unbiased when he showed today that he adds the bits he likes and discards the others.

Arab Union would have been a real possibility if Egypt won the Oriental Crisis and sometimes the UK AI itself can't keep hold of India due to rebellions even without player interference, not to mention India being nearly entirely united under the Mughals within a century before the game started. Don't know much about Turkestan so I can't argue with that.
If you're going to complain this way, you might as well consider Austrian formed Germany to be a meme because it never happened and therefore shouldn't be in the Historical Project Mod. That's not criticism, that's an opinion. You need some actual effort for something to be criticism. Just saying "the PLC is in so Iberia should be in too" isn't criticism.

None of this shit has anything to do with what you said at all. You said
>wastes time adding meme unions
that doesn't have an open meaning. You said he's wasting his time adding meme unions, which meme unions did he add?

>Today, people criticized some of the unions you can form in the mod, amongst them the PLC, and HPM just flat out ignored them.

As should have been expected, Boto could not let her husband go without saying an extended farewell to him, even with the promise of a warm welcome upon his return. In the process she became pregnant yet again--and although Aubry for the first time became nervous about her faithfulness upon hearing the news (for, indeed, the timing of her pregnancy was at the extreme edge of possibility) during a brief stop in Crete en route to Livonia, he would be reassured by his wife's maids upon his return that the child was, indeed, most certainly his.

The baby girl was born while Aubry was still on Crusade, and was given the name Guillaumette by his wife. Aubry personally despised the name, but considering their last child was named after himself, he allows that Botokhui had the right to name her whatever she liked.

The Crusade for Livonia, although hardly an incredible success, was won in early June 1256. Although Aubry committed over 25,000 men to the fighting, sailed for six months to reach Livonia, personally captured the family of the old Livonian Chief and his holdings, and Jerusalemite forces alone defeated over 10,000 heathen soldiers--indeed, his entry into the conflict is considered by most of the Crusaders as the point where the Crusade turned from being a thorough trouncing of the Christians to a series of devastating defeats for the Livonian tribals--the Pontifex Maximus does not agree. He grants the title of King of Livonia to the King of Aragon who, in turn, grants it to a distant relative of his house. When King Aubry protests and requests that at least a fief be granted to one of his own men, both the Pope and the new King of Livonia Hug-Jofre flatly refuse him.

Embittered, Aubry curses both the Pontiff and the new King of Livonia before setting back out for the long journey to Jerusalem. He has earned valuable experience in the fighting, undoubtedly, and has made his name known throughout Europe, but the adventure was worth little more than that, and the money he gained from ransoming the families of his enemies.

On the eve of September 6th in the Christian year of 1,000 anno domini, the hopelessly outnumbered defenders of Viazma finally surrendered to Kovas II Kovasitis, first Emperor of the Lithuanians. The temple of Formin, one of the most holy sites for followers of Dievs, finally found itself stripped of profane Slavic idols, righteous symbols of the Tree of Twilight hung in their stead.

The following morn, Emperor Kovas addressed those loyal chiefs who had followed him into battle, as well as the nearly twelve thousand warriors who had accompanied them in turn, declaring a new era for the Romuva faithful. A unified scripture was to be written, so that the ways of the true Gods could be equally understood by all, and more easily brought to heathens in other lands. Raucous cheers and applause were the majority response; Imram of Ledzianie, Przemyslaw of Mazowsze and Velnias of Zemgali, among others, had seen great difficulty in keeping Christian missionaries from converting their subjects. Notably, Daumantas of Samogita took his host and rode off in disgust, a staunch traditionalist to the last.

“There is no doubt he will be a threat, uncle.” The voice belongs to Vaiga, Kovas' neice. The young lass had proven herself as a wise councilor for much of the campaign.
“I would expect no less from that old dog,” Kovas replies, “but let’s not allow it to mar our victory. Fetch your horse, it is a long road to Vilnius.”

The time has come to begin to search for a bride for Aubry's eldest son Baudouin, who has grown into a capable, polite young man, worthy of the name of his grandfather.

Aubry does not need to look for long: after only a few days he settles upon Keiser Albrecht the Black's youngest daughter, Gudrun. Gudrun is rumored to not only be an extremely pretty girl, but also to be intelligent beyond her years. Moreover, Keiser Heinrich made the odd choice (considering she is the youngest of all his children, and a woman besides) of grooming her for rule, which, despite its strangeness, will serve as a great boon for Baudouin, who himself is destined to rule.

Shortly thereafter Aubry agrees to a further betrothal when he matches his eldest daughter Eirene with the King of France, Robert de Dreux. Ever since the House de Dreux took refuge within Jerusalem prior to their ascension to the French crown there has been a particular unity between House Aleramici and the House de Dreux, and Aubry hopes to formalize this friendship via the marriage.

Baudouin's long return home, and his stress at the Pope's obstinance when he returned, delayed the inevitable pregnancy of Boto, but it came surely enough. Aubry was at first concerned that he might have been out of the palace the week around when Boto became pregnant, but soon dismisses it as mere paranoia.

In late April 1259 Botokhui gives birth to their seventh child and third surviving son, whom Aurby names Philippe, the name he had originally wished to give their second son who did not survive, Temoudjine.

In early Fall Aubry is caught completely off-guard by a declaration of war from the Byzantine Basileius, claiming sovereignty over the territory of Crete which Aubry currently occupies.

Although Aubry has an alliance with his niece and can rely upon her for support, he is nevertheless still significantly weaker than the Basileius, whom Aubry's spymaster Duc Guy of Al-Jawf estimates might be able to raise as many as 40,000 troops with the support of the Varangian Guard. Aubry, with mercenary support, can hope for no more than 30,000, plus whatever reinforcements arrive from Egypt.

Still, he has faced down worse odds before. He kisses his wife, hugs his children, and rides hard from the gates of Jerusalem.

Calling up Volodar the White of the Rus Company and his 5,200-man mixed force of heavy cavalry and horse archers on the way, Aubry rallies his vassals and rushes off to defend his lands.

Aubry's initial strategy is to attempt a repeat of the battle of Kaisun, by forcing Byzantine forces into the narrow mountain passes of Cilicia and forcing them to engage one of his two armies in order to pass into Jerusalem proper. He gambles that the Basileius will not attempt a landing on the isle of Chypre, for the heartland of Jerusalem is a much more tempting prize.

In spite of the high cost of maintaining his own levies whilst simultaneously paying the Rus Company to effectively sit and do nothing, Aubry orders his forces to dig in and begin investing the Byzantine fortresses of Alexandrou and Kapan. He has little to do until the forces of Basileius Maximos reveal themselves.

Undoubtedly predicting the most likely strategy Aubry would take, Maximos does, indeed, order an invasion of the isle of Chypre, once again catching the King of Jerusalem off-guard. Aubry does not have a naval transport force prepared, nor would he even have enough vessels to transport the entirety of his forces if he requisitioned all of the available vessels in all of Jerusalem's ports (which he is rapidly forced to do). Baudouin makes a tactical decision to sail to Chypre first, ahead of his mercenary allies and remaining levies, in an attempt to delay the sieges the Basileius's forces are attempting to conduct long enough for Volodar to make a supporting landing.

Aubry makes a landing in Nicosie, nearby to the Byzantine forces in Limassol. The Byzantine commander is skilled, however, and he decides to gamble everything to keep Aubry on the back foot: he charges directly at the King's lines.

Were Aubry not a furious taskmaster, he would not have been able to retreat to Famagouste in time to evade the Byzantine forces, but he succeeded. Byzantine forces pursued him regardless and engaged his demoralized and trapped troops, but shortly thereafter Volodar makes his landing and, together, the two Jerusalemite armies make fast work of the Byzantine forces. The first--and most important--battle of the war is over.

The Mexicans have suffered 1.2 million casualties. I probably took a lot in China, and I lost perhaps 60 divisions taking the UK.

Thousands of naval bombers were taking out everything around the UK, and I had two big fleets patrolling, so I had air and naval superiority. Even with this, and simultaneous landings in several places, their fleets reappeared and wrecked my marines. I took the UK with 48 Fallschirmjägers. I lost a lot of Fallschirmjägers in Ireland until I took the back part of the island, and made my own port.

They were almost the exact same thing. You "leased" a portion of the land and gave a (significant) portion of your earnings to the landlord. The issue is that niggers were not exactly agriculturally apt so they ended up getting deeply in debt to their landlords and thus became required to pay more and more until they were attached to the land to be bought and sold with it. I don't remember off hand when it became illegal, but being a sharecropper meant becoming a serf. Sharecroppers weren't just niggers, though. Poor Southern whites sharecropped pretty often and it was one of their main sources of income, even before the Civil War.

Nah, I'm usually awake for at least another 10 hours, although I don't always check /gsg/ in that time. I just stop posting AAR stuff so I can go do other things.

As for the CoA, I honestly don't know. I don't know much about the history of the Aleramici dynasty, but I guess that doesn't matter too much since this CoA would be more based upon the Jerusalem part of the family.

Surprise me, maybe, with something Jerusalem-oriented? Worst case if I don't like it I'll at least have something to look at and tell you what about it I think need changing. I'm not great at visualizing stuff without having it in front of me.

From the beginning of June until August, Aubry spends his days tracking the Byzantine forces on the island and systemically exterminating them wherever they pitch camp. While the decision of the Basileius to strike at Chypre was novel and unexpected, it also leaves him at a great disadvantage now that he has lost the initiative: his forces cannot escape. Jerusalem's fleet blockades all ports and Aubry terrorizes the Byzantine army such that they could never stay stationary long enough for a Byzantine fleet to break through the Jerusalemite blockade to rescue them. They are, effectively, already lost. It takes the entirety of the summer to subdue them fully, but the last Greek forces on the island are killed or captured in early August.

From there, Aubry must plan his final retaliation. And, if he has is way, it shall truly be grand.

Debt bondage is different anyways. You can pay off your debt any way your owner will let you in debt peonage. A sharecropper was forced to pay in crops, just like a serf.

What country? Most peoples had their former slaves as serfs or what not, and banned slave trade meant that slavery still existed in place. In British India, they might have women tied to the land to grow tea. In the Dutch East Indies, slavery wasn't completely abolished until 1910, but in 1920, they added a third class of citizenry, the Foreign Easterners, with all that implies. China abolished slavery in 1910, but the practice continued at least until 1949.

>In the same way serfs were, yes.
Not the same way. They were bond to the land by debt, serfs were bond to the land by right.

Going to prison isn't the same thing as what would happen to a serf.

>not serfs
No, they aren't serfs.

Serfs are bond to the land by right of the lord and the manor. Peons are tricked or abused in debt and debt is the only thing that ties them. They are different things.

You realize that serfs can sell themselves into bondage, correct? Not all, or even most, became serfs out of right. And since you're using wiki as a fucking source how about this:

>It can have more than a passing similarity to serfdom or indenture, particularly where associated with large debts at a plantation store that effectively tie down the workers and their family to the land.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharecropping

Sharecropping, particularly the version found in the United States, was de facto serfdom.
>>
>>147764751
Following the defeat of the Basileius's army at Chypre, the Byzantine fleet withdrew to port, most likely to avoid taking unnecessary losses now that the forces they were meant to extract were no longer fighting.

A very, very poor decision on the part of the Basileius.

Aubry rounded up every last troop he had left, boarded his commandeered vessels, and set sail as quickly as was feasible for the Straits of Marmara--or, more plainly, for the city of Konstantinoupolis.

The city, whose famous Theodosian walls had never before been breached by an enemy, had not before been so undermanned whilst faced with such a large and determined foe. Aubry's forces easily broke their way through the outer defenses and into the city proper, where they began to plunder and ransack with wild abandon. They were in the City of the World's Desire, the first armed force to ever breach its high walls, and all that was held within it was theirs for the taking!

Until, that is, a representative of Basileius Maximos--who, himself, had fled like a coward as soon as the city's walls had been breached--rushed to King Aubry with a most generous offer of peace.

Serfs can't leave their land. If they can, it stops being serfdom.

What happened in the US has shit all to do with serfdom. It's called peonage.

>>It can have more than a passing similarity to serfdom or indenture
How about the part of the article that spells it's peonage?

>It is estimated that up to 40% of blacks in the South were trapped in peonage in the beginning of the 20th century.

Yes, peonage is similar to serfdom. People tied to the land is a similarity. No shit. They are also two different things.

The Basileius's representative offers not only an acknowledgement that Chypre is a fief of Jerusalem and that the Basileius will not engage in warfare against Aubry in the future (almost certainly a given, based upon his severe trouncing), but also a lion's share of loot from the royal palaces and coffers of wealthy citizens who fled the fighting. Gold and jewelry, fine clothing, bundles of rare cloths and sacks of spices, religious artifacts and more are up in the offering, and Aubry, smelling money like a bloodhound, agrees with immediacy.

He leaves Konstantinoupolis under the control of a Basileius still hiding in the countryside, who is now destitute in addition to being humiliated. All does not look well for House Angelos.

During his long campaign in Chypre Botokhui, being her usual insatiable self, sailed to the island to see her husband. Although they spent only two nights together, he learns upon his return to Jerusalem--verified, as is usual by now, via her maids--that she became pregnant on one of those two nights.

Following his victory Aubry and Boto spend the intervening months together in the royal palace at Jerusalem, spending time playing with their many children (and, of course, with one another). Aubry's numerous duties and the memories of his many battles still leave him on edge, but he is nevertheless more relaxed spending time with his family now than he has been in years--following the example of his father in his later years, Aubry decides to begin focusing on his family as the most important part of his life.

It is thus with great sorrow that Aubry hears that, when Botokhui went into labor to deliver their eighth child, the little girl was stillborn. By Aubry's express order, she is buried next to her grandmother, Eirene, in what is rapidly becoming the family crypt beneath the royal palace.

Of course, have to end off on a note of sorrow. Done for tonight, lads. I'll be posting more tomorrow.

No, indentured servitude involves travel and technically had a time limit.

That's a little disappointing. Are peace treaties more fleshed out in DH, or are they like Victoria 2's, where what colonies you acquire are totally arbitrary?
>>
>>147776818
Oh and one more thing:
Make world tension less fucked up. Ending the Spanish civil war shouldn't cause 16+% tension, and Japan winning the war against China shouldn't skyrocket tension to max. I'm not sure if any peace treaty should ever actually increase tension. War declarations, joining factions, and fabricating casus belli make sense but why the fuck would an end to a conflict do anything but lower tensions?
>>

There aren't enough slider moves to get fascist UK/USA without using the console.

Mate, there aren't peace treaties. You grab what you can, after all VPs are occupied the enemy gets annexed by who got the capital. Everyone keeps what they grabbed, rest goes to annexer.

All references to provinces should instead reference regions, from which deleting or add provinces is simple and takes 5s.

Said regions should reference an Excel table of development, from which deleting a province can easily re-distribute the lost development to other provinces in the region.

Dunno what DG or what religion he's talking about, but that really shouldn't be hard either. Do a quick find and delete over all events/decisions that reference the decision, then run the game's event.decision verification logic and if any of them fail (= removing the religion made it illegal) you can probably just delete the event/decision. Maybe you'd have to check a few and re-code them.

Stirner destroys everything, the institutions, religion, the state, traditional moral, the collective as a holistic entity and so on. He refuses to forget his own interests in favor of abstract ideals.
Stirner's ideal society is "a union of egoists"

Bug report for HPM:

Hi, I was playing around with the most recent version of HPM and I noticed some bugs that I would assume the author would want to know about.
First off: The new system made for Japan where they can either follow the "path of progress" or the "line of advantage" is missing many of its population features and localization so that it doesn't work properly. This is pictured in that the pops have improper triggers for change in their key issues as their must be a notation or typing mistake somewhere in the code.
Secondly: The New union nation of Turkestan has an issue where when it is formed it starts off with no technology researched which basically means it is a useless puppet for the nation that created it. I know other union nations like Transcaucasia have a system where they take the technology of their new overlord in order to remedy this issue. This is an issue as it makes it so that Transcaucasia cannot build any factories and can only build irregulars regardless of the era in which it was spawned. So hopefully this issue can get ironed out in the next version or with a hotfix. If the author or anyone else has any followup questions ill be around. Thanks.

Played all the new one (Vic 2, EU4, CK2), I even played Stellaris for the ships

I tried to play Hearts of Iron 3, buts that too hard so I decided to do something easier like learn Nuclear Physics

It's about the amount of checks, it seems they managed to make checks less numerous and less frequent

What really fucks up performance is tags, because of quality Paradox programming. They all need to calculate stuff about each other, even when they aren't on the map, meaning more adds require exponential resources.

>>
>>147786786

Arabia too, huh? This should really be fixed as it is a pain to have a useless ally who you generally have to spam sphere to form and then have them charge a line of Panzers with spearmen. I mean its not like this is Civ5 or anything,
>>
>>147787982
It's army mana, you get it by either making your soldiers do push-ups, or by fighting
>>
>>147787685
Honestly, doing some form of pops in my mod would be really in line with the dev plan, and I suppose it could be a way to have pops for some people without lagging entirely (and I could probably work a submod for MEIOU in there that would simulate levies vs standing armies, using pops to help make it even more realistic).
>>
>>147788176
He is right
Everything for every tag is calculated even if that tag has no provinces
>>
>>147787845
Don't underestimate how shit Paradox is at coding events. At each 'turn' end, every nation could be checking seven different event variables at once while MandT just has a constant change
>>
>>147788224
Best way to get army mana pre-war is to lend-lease a bunch of infantry equipment to china or japan during the war.

Easily get 2+ arma mana per day compared to getting +.1 for having your whole army do pushups.

>>147788328
I asked for proof. Not bullshit.
>>
>>147788176
Apparently they need to calculate relations with each other, dispositions, trust and everything like that. Pretty much function like a real nation, except they don't exist.

Tests ran by modders point at that, with performance significantly dropping as more nations are added.
MEIOU removes American natives and puts them in a submod so their tags don't have to be in.

Start replacing infantry with artillery. One will cost you five, two will cost you ten. Then reduce till you have a width of 20. With base combat having a width of 80, having four divisions in the fight instead of three is good.
>>
>>147788484
That's nice and all but I want actual proof as in numbers.

I've run the test for V2 and it was bullshit, tags did nothing detectable to the game speed when not on the map. I wrote a script to generate over 5k random tags and found no evidence.

At most calculating 2-3 numbers for each tag is completely trivial. Even if you had 1k tags doing 1,000,000 calculations that's nothing for a CPU that has GHz and only needs it done once a month.

I don't really play EU4, but all paradox games are based off the same engine and reuse tons of code. Anyone who has evidence to suggest Paradox somehow took a working engine and fucked it all up should be able to figure it out.

This "common knowledge" of tags causing lag even when not in play existed before EU4 btw.

>>
>>147788798
Yeah, and modders don't complain about extra tags slowing down Victoria, while they do in EU4
There's nothing to assume that EU4 is coded as well as Victoria 2.

There's absolutely no way of knowing what calculations each tag has to do, that's in the .exe. No one can do anything to figure out which code runs and how optimized it is.
Because it gets progressively worse the more tags are added, the suspicion is that they're interacting with each other.

If you want actual benchmarks, you can ask testers on the forums, there's lots of people whose work is running the mods and seeing what makes them run faster and slower.
You can look for them, MEIOU has lots of people doing it, through I don't think they have been testing new tags recently.

You can also try testing it by yourself. There are two modules with extra tags, the Amerindian module and the fantasy module, run combinations of both and check the performance.
>>
>>147788798
>Even if you had 1k tags doing 1,000,000 calculations that's nothing for a CPU that has GHz and only needs it done once a month

>Mod with all scripts but lacking nations crashed because of all the references to those missing tags. Didn't feel like going through all the files for just a test. Especially as it seems, from the test without scripts, that it is the number of nations that carry the highest impact on performance.

Made a quick script that generates tags. Anyone knowledgeable should be able to figure out how to use it.

Currently generates around 3.3k new tags.

It significantly increases game load time, slightly increases the end-of-month calculation time (still about a second though).

I'd say that any normal amount of added tags can be considered negligible. Consider that just the flag files for all of these new countries weighs in at like 500 MB.

Upon his sixteenth birthday, Kovas’ bastard son Vytautas is legitimized, much to the dismay of his cousin, Vytautas (an unfortunate coincidence) the Nord, who until that point had been the sole heir. Kovas, Vytautas and nearly four thousand men embark ships to sail to the distant Mediterranean for three years of raiding in honour of the Gods.

At home, dissent stews among the tribesmen of Galinda. Their lord, Vytautas the Nord, sends secret letters from his gaol in Vilnius with the hopes of affecting some form of coup during the absence of the Emperor and his heir. Young Vaiga, who has at this point maneuvered herself onto the imperial council, has her traitorous kinsman sacrificed to Dievs in the square of Vilnius just as Vytautas lays low his first Muslim warrior on Mayurqa.

Nearly five years after their departure, Kovas returns from raiding up and down the coasts of Spain and Ireland with a fleetfull of treasure, and a hardened, more experienced Vytautas. When the longships dock in the city of Krantas, Kovas is both surprised and delighted by the new temple district that had sprung up in his absence. Upon arriving at court in Vilnius, he finds that young Vaiga has done a grand job in his absence, sending his remaining bastard children away to raid or serve in temples, and converting much of the old guard to the new, reformed faith. At the grand feast, Kovas grants the new temple at Krantas to his loyal niece and arranges for her to be wed -matrilineally- to one of his most faithful warriors.

Not all is well in the Imperija Lietuvos however; in Kovas’ absence, High Chiefs Miervaldis, Przemyslaw, and even old Imram of Ledzianie have formed a powerful coalition, able to bring just shy of eleven thousand warriors to bear.

In 1,005 on the Christian calendar, Miervaldis the Fat brings before Kovas an ultimatum: bestow upon him the rulership of Skalva, or face open war from his faction. Kovas does not even pause to consider; nearly a third of his shipbuilding capabilities are situated in the region, something he cannot afford to lose. Miervaldis, the Old Dog of Lettigalia, declares a rebellion against Kovas “the Accursed.” Within short days, letters from lords and chiefs across the Imperija Lietuvos arrive confirming their allegiance. Vytautas rides hard from Vilnius to take command of the forces rallying at Berestye, and a missive is sent to Palaidas the Knight, ordering him to take his army to Bartas. Kovas has settled on a two pronged invasion of Curonia, hoping to trap the bulk of the rebel forces between himself and Palaidas’ forces, while Vytautas takes his host to capture Belsk.

At least, that is the hope.

The Emperor is dead. After spotting Miervaldis, Kovas rode after him, hoping to end the rebellion by taking the Old Dog’s head. However, Kovas’ boldness was his undoing; rather than face his challenger himself, Miervaldis sent his bodyguard to fight instead. Though he fought valiantly, the aging Emperor was no match for the young bear of a man, and was slain.

Infuriated, the Imperial forces charged the rebel line, smashing it like an egg and slaughtering all those who could not escape. Unfortunately, the Old Dog was among the lucky.

The war, and future of the Imperija Lietuvos, now rests on the shoulders of Vytautas. Though a fearsome warrior in his own right, Vytautus is but a youth of nineteen, and has little experience in commanding armies much larger than a raiding band.

Within two months, the citadels of three of the rebellious lords fall, and their families taken prisoner. Still, the Old Dog and his few remaining conspirators will not accept peace, mustering their men in Trakai for a last ditch assault on Vilnius. Before the rebels manage to reach the city, they are met on the field by Palaidas the Knight, who swiftly crushes them with his host of heavy cavalry.

Now, Vytautas must decide the fate of the traitorous chiefs, and on the very man who saw his father killed.

“The price of treason has always been death,” Vaiga reminds him, “your father would not hesitate in your position. However, perhaps executing a swathe of your followers wouldn’t be a wise move so early in your reign.”

When the remainder of his father’s council catches wind of the proposed executions, they very firmly oppose it. After cursory investigation, Gabija -Vytautas’ spymaster and sister- informs him that the council each individually owe heavy favours to members of the rebellious faction, including Vaiga. It appears that the traitors will have to simply rot in their prisons for the time being, much to Vytautas’ displeasure.

The imperial council seems to be a never ending source of trouble for the young Vytautas. Attempts at bestowing excess land on loyal vassals are blocked time and again by a labyrinthine web of favours and leverages, as are attempts at altering the laws of the land, even when it would benefit the very same councilors that refuse!
Despite the council’s machinations, Vytautas is able to affect a minor victory: the religious conversion of a handful of minor chiefs. He hopes that spreading the new Romuva faith will outweigh the cost of releasing known traitors.

The move pays off, and sparks a chain of conversions extending much farther than Vytautas could have expected, including his former rival, Laimdots, who wrested the chiefdom of Kursas from Miervaldis. Windfall comes after windfall as Gabija is betrothed to the High Chief of Savolaiset, a boy of nine named Orozoy. Upon the appointment of Bukantas, mayor of Vilnius, to Spymaster, much of the intricate threads tethering the council appear to sever. The High Chiefdom of Smolensk is awarded to Palaidus the Knight for his bold service during what is now called the Old Dog’s Rebellion.

With the unrest in the council ended and the realm back at peace, Vytautas can, for the first time in his adult life, relax. In the library at Vilnius, he reads of the exploits of his ancestor, Kovas I Kovasatis. It was he who first united the Lithuanian tribes and brought the Lettigalians to heel, founding the kingdom from which the Imperija would grow. He is said to have been a master of seduction, balancing as many as ten lovers with twenty bastards. Vytautas decides that emulating this trait will be the proper way for an emperor to spend his downtime; an athletic woman named Aldona catches his eye one day while visiting the High Temple of Salcininkai. Within a week, she tells him never to speak to her again. Brokenhearted, Vytautas takes a host of his most eager men to raid up and down the coast of Ireland.

You are building mountain troops, aren't you? You are also planning several naval invasions, right? At the lowest level, you can have naval invasions of ten divisions at a time. Once you take a port, you can direct more forces to garrison the area, and have your mountain troops press forward.

Early on, you don't even need to change your infantry template, but when you are producing a lot of artillery, and have some army experience, infantry with a smaller front with two artillery and support artillery do well.

Also, even if your troops don't have enough supplies, the Chinese have even less.
