I think that aside from a few problems, 343 has done a good job make the tone so different from the original trilogy. The human covenant war is over. And there's no longer any glory in the fighting that needs to be done. There's thousands of competing arms companies restarting and cropping up again, all providing their own variants to military equipment and Spartans aren't so special anymore. Humans are starting to fight again, as in the nature. There's no longer a necessity for all leaders to be at the peak of competence, and all the vacancies left from the war are being filled with rookies and retards.

The post war bliss has gone to humanities collective head, even with the Prometheans running around. It's frustrating for everyone that survived the Human Covenant war, and it's frustrating for the players who did as well.

On the other hand it could just be me trying to make the abysmal story not hurt so much. I'm assuming its all been intentional on 343s part, when maybe its not and they're all just total retards. Hell, after Spartan Team Osiris' performance in Halo 5, if ANY of them die in the future it will be very hard to justify it, as they spent the entire game seemingly invincible.

Hard to say. They've been listening to fans so far, trying to fix what was obviously broken or not really working. Depends whether or not they want to really give up on their own characters they pushed.

I'm not too bothered about Osiris as long as they get a smaller role and as long as Palmer gets the axe I'm happy. Locke and Buck are the only notable members for me and Buck didn't exactly fit Osiris that well to be honest but how else would they use him?

It would be nice to see Lasky step in and have a bigger role, we had all this build up for this character and we never really got to see him. I really can't remember the campaign that well since I only played it once, what happened to exuberant witness? Would be nice to have her as a recurring character. 343s trilogy is really missing a "Johnson", aka a character that fans love across multiple games. If Palmer is their answer for this then holy shit

/v/ did this a while back with Halo 3. They had Halo fests and they kept score. They had 4 teams of 6 people and played through a set list against each other.

Warzone Firefight really sucks. Once you get past the first two waves there's literally no point in using anything except a vehicle, because getting close to enemies with power weapons is pretty much a guaranteed death with an absurd respawn time.

I think Halo 4 would have been great if they would have kept the artstyle more like 2A/3, tweaked the story a bit to be slightly less dramatic, made the forerunners not look like turtle people, and dropped all the "cinematic/qte" nonsense. I just replayed it, and it bothered me how it just felt nothing like any of the other Halos, but had some decent levels. The story is better than 5s but it was just so poorly executed in my opinion, and the actual gameplay felt so clunky and boring that it sucked some of the life out of it. Also, completely personal opinion, but I still don't like sprint in Halo, but instead would love a base movement speed increase.
But seriously, fuck nanomachines. Why not just start him with his regular armor and give him new shit on infinity?

just reminded myself, 1 thing i like about 343i's portrayal of the Master Chief is that when he is not in battle giving commands its clear he is a bit of an odd ball. ive read some of the books and the scene where he accidentally kills an ODST and has trouble understanding what he did, put MC in proper perspective. something bungie would never have done, make John a person in their game and not just their bad ass Terminator spouting 1 liners. His interaction with Cortana at the end of Halo 4 and Laskey highlights that he struggles to be a person. even around his squad in halo 5

This is a three part anwer.
First, there was an agreement on delivering "quality over quantity". We were moving towards the release date (we had to beat the competition, being a 1-platform game on the Xbox One) and we knew we were not going to have everything ready for that date.
Big Team Battle for example was not even started and there was some debate over whether to make maps for it but we settled on allowing the forge community to do that after launch.
Forge was done, but hadn't gone through all the proper testing and we didn't want to release it in a non-related state after the previous year (see: MCC).
Pretty much almost all the reqs that have released post-launch were legitimately created post-launch.

Other things WERE COMPLETED but were purposely held off to stretch out the DLC offerings, Attack on Sanctum/Urban and Infection being the notable ones.

Finally, the Master Chief Collection was a big part of the reason the content that launched with Guardians was what you got. There were some of the studio working on fixing it, but that didn't really take from 5's development. Instead, we just wanted to avoid a bad launch, so the content you did get was vigorously tested before launch. Any content that couldn't reach this level of testing was witheld.

You don't get to ask 2 questions, so I'm going with this one since it was your first.

The Master Chief Collection went through several planned iterations.
At first it was supposed to be just Halo 2 Anniversary and an Xbox One launch title but when Saber made it clear that window was impossible for them, Microsoft let us scale it back to the Halo 2 10 year anniversary release date. However, they used that extra time as justification to ask for more (I suspect the underperformed X1 was a factor as well and they wanted a Halo adrenaline shot). We also were locked into the promise of delivering "a new Halo experience running in 60 frames per second in 2014" after E3 2013.

There was a lot of collaboration between the Saber team and the certain affinity team working on the Anniversary 2 multiplayer. But that was it. The contact with Ruffian games and United Front was very VERY limited. This game all came together with very little time before release.

There WAS testing done, and to be honest the tests mostly showed up all green, but there clearly wasn't enough.

For the record, we haven't given up on the MCC. There's plans for a Halo 3 Anniversary update. But now it's looking like that might be a standalone thing or even something attached to 5 (not free DLC).

Also, it's not the universal UI that doesn't like your connection when trying to get into matchmaking. It's the UI talking to the games it's getting ready to run and then relaying that back to your network. The game actually loads up all possible game types on all possible maps for each playlist before it even connects the player's together in the pre-game lobby, and if one of those scenarios doesn't work right, it starts the process over, hence the "players found, connecting, searching for players, etc"

I realize this is supposed to be satirical but I can actually use it to shed some light on what's been going on lately.

1st off, most of the studio that was hired over the early years was done so because the vision they had for the series matched up with the direction management wanted to take it in, as well as with Microsoft's diverse credential plan ("diverse" as in they came from a lot of different successful studios, not as in race or gender).
The problem now is that very vision pretty much no longer exists. It got majorly scrapped after 4. Halo 5 was supposed to be about Halo rings and the Janus key and a complicated struggle of ideals between the UNSC (with ONI at the helm) and a lone chief without Cortana). Locke was always going to happen, but he wasn't going to be the main character or anything.

But now we have squad gameplay, a huge chunk of 5 missing and what is there was majorly altered. Halo "6" (don't get too used to the numbering in the titles from here on out) is looking to be something completely different than planned.
People are angry. This wasn't what they signed on for. Others are more calm and are seeing this as more of a bump in the road.
I have positive feelings for the next installment, but even I admit it's not where we thought this was all going even 3 years ago.

-Customization options were cut down because we were having trouble rendering so many combinations and meeting the 60fps 1080 resolution.
-Black undersuits was a topic that came up many times. After much play testing it was shown to be an advantage of certain maps so we scrapped the idea of any undersuit customization.
-Jul was going to be our go to boss for Halo 5, but with the lack of interest in Spartan Ops it was obvious we needed to change our baddie
-We decided to bring Cortana back after we scrapped the idea of Chief going around destroying the remaining Halos early on. This also allowed us to put in team Osiris as management was really pushing them.
-We had 3 more Chief missions planned, but were ultimately scrapped due to time and constraints. Many of us weren't happy with this and unsure how the community would take it.
-After Halo 4 we realized we lost a bunch of the core audience that had been with the franchise with the beginning. During our development of reqs word got out early that we would bring some old weapons back to hopefully draw some fans back in.

-When the topic of how to keep players invested in multiplayer many possibilities we brought up. The multiplayer team decided on having a large amount of reqs to earn so that players would want to "complete" them.
-Fun Fact: Jul's death was inspired from Star Wars ep 2 & 3's Count Dooku believe it or not. One of the story writers loved the idea of a main villan for one game being killed early on in the next.
-Cortana being brought back left us with some challenges on closing up some loop holes. After the decision was made to bring her back, the old cut bungie scripts were used as reference to bring her back as a villain.
-The original storyboard we had for Halo 5 featured chief in a cloak. Early on in the game chief was to meet up with the arbiter on sanghelios to destroy the rings. This worked for the arbiter as in his mind he didn't want to be reminded of his covenant past. Chief was given the cloak by the sword of sanghelios.
-Big Team Battle wasn't a priority for us because we wanted to make sure that arena's 4v4 gametypes and weapons were all balanced.

Forge World had a lot of freedom to it, even if you were just using teleporters on maps to transport people to different areas for different segments. Forge Island in 4 was pretty nice as it also had a nice, massive space to Forge in. Forge World just had the benefit of being a beautiful Forge piece with prebaked terrain.

Would be nice to have a similar canvas in 5. When I spawned on hg island it still felt a bit cramped flying around in a wasp. You would think they would have massively updated the resource limit with the xbone but it doesn't seem to be the case as people still seem to run out or get close to running out. There is no excuse, as time goes on resource limits should be increasing and naturally maps should be either getting a little larger or at least matching previous titles in size. Whether you think it is a waste of space and time is irrelevant, it's just giving people more freedom and that's what's important. So what if people just like driving or flying about? The game isn't just catered to you.

Older maps are just not comparable and your salt in these posts is both funny and irritating. It's almost as if there are years between games and later maps had a lot to base themselves on and improve on as Forge became more and more popular.

Foundry was the first Forge map. They gave a straight ass box for people to Forge in and some new toys. Sandbox they gave you 3 different areas to forge in and with Reach they gave you a much larger area with multiple different terrains to forge on and big new features. Halo 4 gave us multiple different canvases with different visuals but they were much smaller, they fixed this by releasing Forge Island which was actually great.
