Newish NC here just on the cusp of 1000 certs for a new LMG. I'm torn between the EM6 and the NS LMG because I can't stand the fire-rate/recoil of GAUSS. One has great fire rate, range and clip but the other has a compensator and soft point which must make it a monster in close range. Thoughts? Alternatively im thinking of a gorgon on my max to actually make it useful.

First, focus on getting stuff to make your base class better. suit / ability upgrades, medkits, stuff like that. Weapons are a purchase for a bit further down the line.

The Gauss Saw is a very good long range LMG that really should not be a starter weapon. But if you can master it, they call it the godsaw for a reason. Just remember: short bursts.

HA will get you more kills with iwin shield, but medic will get you overall more certs if you upgrade your med tool
LA for maximum fun
don't bother with MAX or engy just yet, unless you really want to primarily play in a tank

Try a bit of everything and whatever ends up being the most fun would be a good start.
Finding good fights is kinda a acquired skill, so it might be better to join up with a platoon depending on your server/faction.

People will say medic but the exp for healing is GARBAGE compared to just getting out there and killing things.

Go light assault. All you need is sprint, medkits, and a darklight flashlight for your shotgun, and you're basically geared for life. You don't need to memorize maps because you can go anywhere anyway.

Drifters for being a C4 fairy (assuming you have a way to get to a reasonable height without them), Icarus otherwise. The rest sounds OK to me, but I'm not very good at the game.

I changed to icarus the second it was released and never looked back. For equipment I mostly used nanoweave, medkits and battle hardened. For weapons I just used whatever carbine I was auraxing at the time, but by far the best one is the Trac-5B. Armistice with laser sight and suppressor for SMG and Baron with slugs for shotgun.
Just work on map knowledge and use your mobility and verticality to come up behind dudes and kill them before they can do anything. Try to stand still as little as possible. Also flashbangs aren't totally useless as of now.
LA directive isn't very hard, it's pretty much just killing dudes, just keep in mind where snipers, tanks and aircraft can see you when you're roofmonkeying

Also if you find a base that's being constructed and deploy a sundy there, and that base comes under attack as it's being built, you will literally have an endless stream of certs for as long as the base holds.

I prefer the resist shield. But it depends a lot on your playstyle as they are good for different things.
NMG if you're not good at getting kills and don't enter combat all the time. Adrenaline if you're good at getting kills but find yourself getting surprised a lot. Resist if you have good map knowledge and awareness and don't find yourself getting surprised all that much or if you just want more combat uptime.
