>This is only the beginning
edition

>Can the game be considered a full release?
No, for all intents and purposes, KSP should be considered still in early access state. The game is nowhere near being able to stand on its own legs both from a gameplay perspective (career mode is definitely not ready and balanced) and a stability perspective. There are still major bugs and memory leaks that shouldn't exist on a finished game.

>Are there big issues with the game?
Bugs and instability are still real and frequent problems, as with every product still in beta. Ask in thread for details.

>What are the devs doing?
The most recent update (1.1) was supposedly going to bring a complete overhaul of the GUI, be 64bit friendly, have a refined physics/heating/aero model and generally perform better. While achieving none of these goals, the game is now more unstable than ever, with many users being unable to use the game at all. An external team with heavily questionable experience (Flying Tiger Entertainment) is being tasked with porting the game to PS4, XboxOne and Wii U, with a release deadline that seems to keep slipping.

>Should I buy the game?
KSP is very enjoyable at first, then it usually needs to be modded to retain some sort of longevity, but doing so may dramatically increase the instability of the game. You will be very familiar with the word "Oops!". The Developers, Squad, have shown many times that they can't handle the project and are trying to squeeze all the money they can with the least amount of effort and with controversial PR tactics. The general consensus at /kspg/ is that you should torrent the game, not because the game itself is unplayable, but because most of us agree that Squad does not deserve your money.

I'm thinking of the new complex they built in the far east (?) -- didn't know there was another project.

But I did see that Russia wrote into their ISS agreement that all the tech they send up there can be repurposed for their own stuff. That's why we have to supply their stuff too for redundancy Though I spose life support is a good thing to keep redundant.

Russia's a third world country. I look forward to getting their garbage off our station tbqh.

Yes, MAN managed to schizo so hard that we are autosaged by the mods. The mods noticed and posted that we need to not have intra-general drama and added us to the filter.

>calling 911
A guy was having bad thoughts and laying in his dorm bed with a knife. Cops walked in and shot him in the chest. Don't call 911, it's the lazy approach. That will be the worst thing to do for him.

If you know he's making an attempt or has said he is making an attempt, then call, but you can't jump right from "he sounds sad" to "I'm calling the authorities," unless you definitely want to lose a friend.

Talk to him in person. Take him to the movies. Get him out of his head. Best thing you can do for someone in that position. Don't wait until its too late. He'll always remember you pulled him back from the brink.

What?

The fact is, none of us are doctors. We don't have the needed expertise to properly help somebody with a mental illness. I'm not saying call 911 because he sounds sad, I'm saying that if you seriously think this person is at risk of harming themselves, you need to intervene. If that's physically, sure, I guess go for it. But calling the Police or Paramedics is also an option.

I'm not offended, I'm just well aware of the pattern here. Whenever we regroup and find a voice for our hatred for Squad, people show up doing everything they can to distract from the group reaching squad-hate critical mass and having that proliferate to the rest of the fanbase, like the dozens of other times that has happened.

So, I thought I'd cut off the detour to MAN ad-hominems by getting it in early. Also

Imagine that you and I decide to take turns driving your Honda Civic.

I drive it, and the car performs as it should, taking corners like a car of it's sort would, and showing a typical braking distance.

Then, you get into it. You've driven cars for far longer than I have, so when you drive the car, it performs better, has a smaller turning circle, and a short braking distance than it did when I drove it mere minutes before.

Are we seriously comparing video games to real life now?
Because literally every game with even the most basic experience system locks you out of certain features unless you reach a certain level.
Arcade racing: you can't drive powerful cars, you can't use the nitro or access certain areas until you are famous/rich/wanted/badass/respected/experienced enough.
Soccer: you can't play against famous teams because they know how to dribble and you don't until you get enough experience.
Literally any RPG: your weapon does X damage, but when you get more experience, it makes 2X damage even though it's the same weapon.
Should I go on or do you want to keep making stupid comparisons?

In the case of KSP, ships don't perform differently, the engines still get the same thrust and Isp, you still get the same amount of electricity or the same amount of reaction torque, you are just locked out of certain features like being able to aim prograde/normal/radial or resetting experiments until the damn kerbal gets enough experience.

Is the way experience is earned retarded? Yes.
Is it stupid that kerbals have a couple of exp levels where they don't earn new abilities? Absolutely.
But don't try to twll me that the "get exp, learn new abilities" system KSP has is not exactly like every other game

by your logic racing shouldn't even exist since everyone would make the same lap times using the same car on a circuit

if you think the only thing that decides the performance of a car is the car itself and not the driver and it's experience, then you are quite fantastically wrong

not that any of the things you mentioned happened in the game..but still..
>>
>>147343230
Things like being able to use SAS if you are skilled enough is a fundamental reversal of KSP's "game philosophy" if it can be said to have one

The "fun" comes from "gaining experience" and learning how spaceflight and orbital mechanics work. That is not the same as gaining arbitrary points that make the game easier to play. In fact, it doesn't belong in the game at all, because it is promotes a false p a r a d i g m.
>>
>>147343543
I was pointing out how the example he/you made is wrong
I'm not saying KSP system makes sense

there is no performance improvement on any craft whatsoever when using a skilled pilot engineer or scientist..the craft goes as fast, turns as hard and uses as much fuel as with unskilled crew
>>
>>147329375
>Russia's a third world country.
Are you retarded? It's "second world" by definition. You might want to educate yourself on the Cold War.
Also ISS is scheduled to be dunked into the ocean relatively soon, but Russian segment is to be repurposed into a gas station on LEO or something.

But, /pol/ aside, what the fuck did you do to get KSP autosaged? How do you fuck up so badly that you get a game that is peaceful in nature, that is about exploration, rockets and adding more rockets to them autosaged?
>>
>>147343907
>Things like being able to use SAS if you are skilled enough
don't you need to have a pilot of a certain level to activate sas in career mode now? And engineers to repack chutes and repair wheels?

I guess that's not exactly the same thing, though, now that I think about it.

Did they ever finish implementing KXP?

>>147344090
You need a pilot for SAS period.
Experienced pilots get shit like being able to hold orientation in different directions.

If you drive a ship with someone who is not a pilot, then you get no SAS which kinda makes sense 2bh
>>
>>147344450
From: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/SAS
>Stability Augmentation System, Stability Assist (System),
>System
I know they fundamentally rejiggered how it works to make this less true, but it is a computer that can hold a trajectory.

It comes down to what a "kerbal" is supposed to be. And I think this is actually an interesting question, because in KSP, you build your avatar: your ship. You can connect multiple avatars in orbit to make a super-avatar or you can break your avatar into smaller pieces, but you only pilot one ship at a time at least in stock.

So, what is a kerbal? Is it an "asset" like a pilot or a engineer or a scientist, or is it more like a "lifeboat" avatar for when you need a different one? I guess the answer is both, but I don't see the fun in having to manage kerbal class systems, but I can understand why a fascist would.

A kerbal being a high level pilot should allow you to automate a mission without even having it focused, but instead, because "SAS" was available as a pre-existing feature, it was easier just to gate that. Kinda like all of career mode.

People are scared of the power of the atom. They have seen what the fire of atomic weapons have done to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they have heard the tales of cancers and deformities.
Thus the atom becomes an acceptable target - cutting programs that might only serve to spread illness? A sound political move. Even more so when you simply don't have the budget to spent on payload.

They pitched it to the Kennedy administration as an interplanetary nuclear battleship capable of wiping out continents, including hangars for aircraft and mutliple Casaba-Howitzer directed nuclear energy guns. Apparently it scared the bejeezus out of them so they wanted it buried, lest anyone use the same against them. The Casaba-Howitzer project is still classified for instance.

Something similar happened to SLAM (Supersonic Low Altitude Missile). It was an unmanned, open-core nuclear powered, nuclear weapon carrying aircraft that would loiter at high altitude for months. When go-time came around, it would hit the deck, fly low over enemy territory spraying radiation the entire time, fire its nukes, then crash its reactor into a secondary target for area denial. It was cancelled in part out of fear that the enemy would be forced to adopt something similar.

Can someone explain what's so wrong with it to me.

For reference, I have never seen a two prong connector in my life because I live in a three prong country.
>>
>>147372497
It's not so much about it being two prongs, but about both ends being male. You're basically asking to make a cable that can plug a live outlet directly into another live outlet. This is generally regarded as a bad idea.
>>
>>147372497
The problem isn't that there's two, it's that they're exposed
Normally with a male-female cord the male end's plugged in and the female end's safe to handle because you can't touch the contacts
With a male-male cord the contacts are fully exposed and able to shock you or set things on fire
>>
>>147372497
It works with you too. Imagine someone got a plug, and wired the other end of it to another plug. If you put the first one into a socket and turn it on (US sockets generally don't have switches, and are always live) the other end becomes a couple of bare metal prongs that are hooked directly to the mains. Touch them and you're gonna get dedder than KSP.
>>
>>147372849
>>147372949
>>147372995
Wait, yeah, I see it now.

Two prongs is what threw me off, because I can imagine a regular thing you'd plug in having a female connector. (possibly because of the vaguely-similar kettle cord style things you often find in power-bricks.)

When imagining it with the more bulky 3 prong connector, it becomes more hilariously apparent what's gone wrong, especially since there already exists extension cords that add more female slots instead of trying to plug two male ones together.

The partial test ban treaty was a big reason. Also, using all those nukes for non military purposes didn't sit well with a lot of military folk and their hawkish supporters in charge of funding, so didn't give it the requisite money to get it really going. Also, at one point it was apparently presented to Kennedy as a potential "orbital battleship", and reportedly was taken aback by that idea.

Ultimately, people were not too hot about using all those nukes for anything other than flexing muscles towards the soviets, and the rapidly changing opinion on nuclear tests was crippling to such a ship's viability. Furthermore, it was wildly ambitious - certainly possible, but a very risky and huge investment to make. If it failed, it would certainly set back many other projects, not to mention destroy NASA's reputation.
>>
>>147350362
The shuttle was not a bad idea. It was, however, far less impressive than the original idea was. If it had been a true, 100% reusable shuttle, then it would have been a massive achievement. But obviously, that did not come to pass. It still had many reusable parts of course, but the turnaround was simply too expensive to really reap the benefits.

The amount of variation in shuttle proposals is impressive.

Although I get the same feeling I do in KSP when I start off with a bright idea, and then as I refine it in natural steps it ends up becoming less and less like the original until you'd have no idea where it actually started.

I'm not saying they've done super great things since Orion was cancelled, just that there were legitimate reasons for its cancellation.

I do hope however that, if SLS can clear its funding hurdles (big if), we'll get back on track. I think the biggest thing is that as we return to more conventional rockets, their sheer size and awe-inspiring scale will do a lot to rebuilding NASA's image and bringing more attention and focus to grander endeavors. I wish we could have kept Mars as our next focus rather than asteroids, but the latter would still be a huge accomplishment given the potential for resources down the line, and good practice for long range human missions.

Northrop T-38s are the natural prey of the Space Shuttle, although older Shuttles such as Enterprise are often unable to keep pace with the nimble T-38 and have to subsist on Gulfstream II STAs instead.

For their defense, SRB's aren't the faulty parts. In fact, they completed their job even after vehicle deded. They did fail, yes. But why, "My God, Thiokol. When do you wat me to launch? Next April?"

Actual fault was at ET, insulating foam debris damage.
>>
>>147392159
I wasn't getting at Challenger specifically, more the entire notion of "Between SRB firing and cut-off, you can't do anything" as a whole.

If your main engines failed on a liquid fuelled shuttle, you could theoretically cut the boosters, toss 'em, toss the tank and RTLS. In the SRB shuttle, you're thrown completely off balance and break up.
>>
>>147392159
how much did atk pay you to make this post?
>>
>>147392382
That's why they don't release the vehicle until it has achieved thrust. And as you said, when SRB burns, it continues. Only reason of failure is unfavorable weather conditions and the dicks in NASA ignoring the safety measures like they did with the foam. I don't know how much damage it caused, but I know that it was there from the test flights and caused problems from the very first flight. Just because a dick decided to ignore the warnings doesn't mean SRBs are bad. In fact, liquid oxygens insulation was the biggest problem.

>>147392571
>ATK
Did you mean NASA? :^)
>>
>>147393072
>That's why they don't release the vehicle until it has achieved thrust
And then if anything causes thrust to be lost, you're doomed.

The SRBs themselves may have been perfectly functional, but they made multi-engine failure in the atmosphere a lethal possibility. That, not Challenger, is my contention.
>>
>>147393209
That's the thing. You can't lose thrust with SRB's.

What I'm saying is, it could've been a liquid booster too. Sealing failed, not the rocket itself. What you're doing is blaming the gearbox for not delivering power when you broke your differential.
>>
>>147393648
>You can't lose thrust with SRB's.
That's the problem.
>Sealing failed, not the rocket itself
I'm not talking about challenger.

Let me talk you through the hypothetical failure of Enterprise to explain my issue:
Enterprise is launched
2 minutes or so after launch, fuel flow from the main tank is interrupted and all 3 main engines stop functioning. SRBs continue firing
Stack is horribly unbalanced and flips over
Aerodynamic forces disintegrate Enterprise.

Meanwhile with Liquid boosters, one could cut their thrust, ditch the tank and boosters and bring Enterprise around for an RTLS.
>>
>>147393851
How is that a problem? It guarantees that the system will always work no matter what. Absolute 100% redundancy, literally impossible otherwise.

With liquid boosters, one side might fail and create much worse imbalance and disintegrate even before any part realizes it and shut the other down.
Also 2 minutes mean SRB's are already ded and atmospheric forces are minimal :^)
>>
>>147394217
>It guarantees that the system will always work no matter what. Absolute 100% redundancy, literally impossible otherwise.
No. It guarantees that if the Liquid engines fail, you die.

Control of your thrust is always preferable to no control. I have some difficulty imagining you're not being deliberately obtuse.
You do not want your SRBs to fire if your main engines aren't firing. It's all well and good holding it down on the pad, but if they fail once you're off the pad you die.
>even before any part realizes it and shut the other down
Computer program to detect and rectify an unacceptable situation, tovarish :^)
>Also 2 minutes mean SRB's are already ded and atmospheric forces are minimal :^)
it was originally one minute. Amusingly I boosted it because of timing concerns. I'm distracted

Alright, so we're running circles. What we're arguing about is not the engines, but the failure. Failure first, engines later.

The main problem here is asymetrical design instead of Falcon 9, Saturn V or N1. When an engine completely fucks up, you're fucked up no matter what. My argument: Making boosters liquid will only increase the chances of fuck up. Your argument: I take the chances :^) I want to be able to do something even if the chances are so low, maybe computers will save the vehicle

The reason I'm defending solids is, they are 100% redundant and simple as fuck. That's why missiles use solid rockets. Easy to maintain, sure to fire. Just don't try using them after shelf life, but that's not important for launch vehicles.

Liquids on the other hand, complicated mechanical devices. There are so many things to fail. And that's why Proton uses hyperbolic propellant look how it turned out though :DD

You got me curious though, there must be an abort node for that specific event. I should look for it.
>>
>>147394554
that's no mun
>>
>>147396176
>there must be an abort node for that specific event
There is not.

Failure of all main engines while SRBs are still firing is certain to cause a total loss of the vehicle. Between leaving the pad and SRB cut-off you are fucked if things go south.

the big fucking flame that you see is just conflagration from the fuel tank, and not really much of an explosion. the orbiter broke up from aerodynamic forces because there was nothing to keep it pointed exactly prograde. the srbs survived because they have significantly less surface area and are significantly stronger

>>
>>147425506
You lazy fuck. Have my rant on it then.

CSGO is a slot machine. There are sites that use that to separate retards from their money. There are site owners who wanted more retard money so they started posting videos of them winning $13k in 5 minutes.

The reasons why this is interesting to me is this part: the parents of children who have lost money have created a class-action lawsuit against Valve, suing them "because valve has helped to create an unregulated, international gambling concern with no oversight that targets teenagers"

remove gambling for money from that and you have extremely similar circumstances to what Squad is doing. Relying on an international blind spot to separate retards from their money.

Early Access isn't gambling, kinda sorta but the gambling sites didn't pledge to use profits to better the product. So, Squad didn't set up a gambling ring, but they used a similarly deceptive logic to embezzle $150m in investments meant to be spent on the game.

If Squad had spent every dollar they made in EARLY ACCESS on the game and then reaped the massive profits 100% postrelease, I wouldn’t even have a leg to stand on. Too bad they got greedy and worried about their bank accounts before their fans. Thanks Max.

not under US law, not under EU law, not under English Law or Scottish Law, nor Mexican law nor the rules governing international trade from the WTO.

>>
>>147426125
dude don't even try arguing with him, it's just gonna fuck up the thread
>>
>>147425925
Why should Valve do anything about people gambling on their game?
I'm not familiar with the mechanics of csgo, maybe the gambling was made exploiting some game feature/bug? If that's not the case, then asking for valve to stop people from gambling privately is simply retarded.

>>147425938

They needed money to bring an idea to fruition.

I gave them that money, with the implicit expectation that, should they find the project feasible and the money did not run out, they would complete the project.

Writing into the TOS that an investor should not expect a completed version of the game is like selling a cancer cure with the label that the drug may not actually cure cancer, and, lo-and-behold, it's just a sugar pill.

Consumer rights trump what some Mexican lawyer thought would pass for a ToS

They fucking do this though.
The trick is to write "Traditionally used to..." before "...cure cancer"

TOS exist to fuck you. You got fucked. Read the TOS before agreeing next time.

And that's why consumer rights exist.
And class action lawsuits.
They're also highly unenforceable. Squad doesn't even enforce theirs. They allow modders to do things that are technically forbidden in it. If they don't enforce their own ToS how can they look a judge in the eye and explain that they'd love to give that money back but those dutch shell corp owners stole it all
>>
>>147426323
> is like selling a cancer cure with the label that the drug may not actually cure cancer, and, lo-and-behold, it's just a sugar pill.
So in this case, if they told you this before you buy the pill and you bought it regardless, would the pill inventor be at fault for telling you it's a sugar pill or would you be at fault for being retarded and thinking a sugar pill would cure cancer, despite the manufacturer telling you explicitly it doesn't?

Yes you did, although I must admit I misread and you wrote "may"

>with the label that the drug may not actually cure cancer, and, lo-and-behold, it's just a sugar pill.

But that is pretty explicit anyway. You know the risk beforehand (I.e. the drug may not cure cancer) and you accept it by paying for the product, whatever happens after that is not the manufacturer's responsibility unless it causes problems not stated in the label, like killing you.

You logic of collecting money for years is just moving the goalposts now, you didn't say that in your pill example.
Not that it would make your point any less invalid though.

Whenever you are presented the risks before handing out your money, you assume the responsibility of dealing with the unfortunate results that may arise.

This is literally buyers remorse, plain and simple
>>
>>147426967
>Not replying to >>147426774

Grasping much?
>>
>>147426852
That's not an appropriate analogy though.

More apt would be someone selling sugar pills with the promise of trying to make them cure cancer, with a hidden waiver stating that they may not actually succeed at this and that the only product you are entitled to by virtue of paying is the pill currently available (or available in future), not any hypothetical future pill (with no consequential entitlement to refund if the future pill doesn't succeed in development.)

Furthermore, even actually functioning pills don't work for everyone, and it's very rare you can get a refund on your anti-depressants just because they weren't the right ones for you, provided they didn't actually harm you, even with the glut of ambulance chasing medical malpractice lawyers out there.

Similarly, mere implication isn't sufficient in most cases to warrant things. There is the legal concept of a "reasonable person", and any reasonable person would understand the risk of failure when """investing""" in KSP.

Squad are incompetent. Useless. They belong behind bars even if they've violated no laws. KSP is a terrible game, but no legal system outside North Korea is going to convict you on that alone.
and i'm not even explicitly refusing the idea SQUAD have broken a law somewhere, just making the specific case that buying an early access game isn't an investment in any legal sense.

>I gave them that money, with the implicit expectation that, should they find the project feasible and the money did not run out, they would complete the project.

Did they run out of money? No.
Did they find the project feasible? They didn't hire any new devs so I guess so.

Yet, I still have only received this sack of shit they called 1.0 that was functionally no different than .18 and by any measure of good software developement is NOT a complete, ready-for-release build.

And now Harv has jumped ship. No, it was a shell game, a scam, and we will never have a stable KSP because some shitty Mexicans tried to play businessman and shat the bed for everyone.

The biggest problem is we loved them too much, and did not question them, and when they asked for more rope, we gave it.

On the plus side, I've now had all my mexican stereotypes confirmed and will never EVER make the mistake of giving one the benefit of the doubt again.

Only goes so far when they've got an explicit demarcation in their TOS, along with other disclaimers that the product is in an early-access state and liable to change.

No reasonable person could go "Oh, it says right here I'm only paying for 0.14... but really, I'm sure the judge will agree I'm paying for 1.0, and i'm not doing so as a mere consumer but as a mighty investor!"

Let's say I'm a billy. I want my wobble, I hate realistic aerodynamics and I implicitly understood those would never be added. Should I get a refund just because they got chucked in at 1.0? Sure, there were rumblings it would happen but why the fuck should I read anything? I'm billy, the epitome of the unreasonable person.

No, but when you're making distinctions that completely ignore the truth of the situation, which is that we are both investors and consumers (don't forget this is a very new method of production and this is our take at it, thanks for all those willing to follow us in this adventure!)

You see, I have you exactly where I need you, so why would I mess that up? Explain to me again how investors don't have consumers rights and consumers should have to consume a product that was falsely advertised to them

meanwhile, people who don't give a shit about products or investment or embezzlement all agree that KSP is an unstable piece of trash and Squad does not deserve your money

Parachutes don't work well at super/hypersonic speeds: They tend to shred.
Rocketry also has trouble at these speeds as you're descending through an unstable bubble of your own exhaust gases, making thrust vectoring difficult and majorly reducing the effectiveness of control surfaces. For Mars landings, the atmosphere is thin enough that (particularly for heavy payloads) you spend most of your entry time in this phase, and then you hit the ground. Every Mars lander that's been sent so far has been based on the the entry/descent/landing plan of the Viking landers from the 1970s. That methodology has payload limits of under a ton. The Curiosity rover is about as much as we can manage. For manned landings, we need to be able to land considerably more mass.

The HIAD (Hypersonic Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator) and LDSD )Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator) projects are attempts to make something sturdier than a parachute to slow you down enough that rocketry and parachutes become an option. It's basically a big inflatable heatshield, like the one in stock.

Small HIAD test:

i think you misunderstood what i was saying originally though. we both live privileged lives in the face of massive global poverty. it's not logistically possible for everyone to live like we do.

i think you'll agree that we should maintain that inequality. in order for that to happen, the rest of the world outside the west has to stay poor. the only way to justify this inequality to the coddled, emotional masses is through nationalism.

nationalism is a prerequisite to maintaining your standard of living. you could argue that other tribalistic notions could replace it, but i don't see why that's necessary.

Juno orbital insertion when?
>>
>>147448942
i'm not saying nationalism correlates with prosperity, i'm saying that in the specific case of the US and EU nationalism is a requirement to maintain a stable society as things are now.

when you dump nationalism you get a public that's open to mass immigration and globalism, even those things are death sentences for whatever modicum of comfort the western lower and middle classes currently enjoy. that much is evident.

>>
>>147449303
Oh, now I get it. But trying to explain a general thing with specific viewpoint is not what you should do. Nationalism is about preserving your identity against threats and the current threats against US and EU is mass immigration. In Cold War it was Russian threat, which has nothing to do with inequality.
>>
>>147448742
ah, I found an exact source.
straight up: the global mean adult net worth is about 52k usd, the American household median net worth is about 82k usd. assuming 2 adults on average per household, people would outright become richer. of course, that also implies a broader reduction in income equality than simply removing global poverty.

I have it on ps4 with the stock gamepad, works good enough for me.
I have to say I play it semi-autistically, so I take my time to learn the track and fiddle with the setup rather than going for the usual "everyone has the same car and the same setup" matches meant for casuals, but I know I still have a controller so I'm not expecting the moon and I can't say I know how the game feels 100% because of the lack of a proper wheel setup.

Anyway the physics are solid, the multiplayer is kinda solid too (other cars are a bit laggy sometimes, but that seems to be a graphic glitch rather than actual lag, because collisions and laptimes are consistent with a no lag game)
Single player is complete shit if you use it as anything other than solo training with other cars around you, because the AI uses a completely different set of physics than you do and you will notice it after a couple of laps following someone (for example: they seem to be unaffected by tire temperature and wear, they jump on curbs like it's noone's business without so much as a little slide when they land, they drive excessively well on rain with slick tires whereas you struggle to even take a turn at 20km/h), so it becomes kinda frustrating because they are either super easy to beat or impossibly hard depending on what difficulty you choose.
That said, matches are very customisable, which is awesome for multiplayer.

All in all, I think it's worth the money, afaik development basically stopped and they are just focusing on minor bug fixing because they are already working on pcars2. If you have a ps4 you don't really have that many alternatives for a racing sim.
If you are on PC, there are a few other games that are good like rfactor, assetto corsa or iracing, but I didn't try them so you better head on to /ovg/ to get advice on those.
They are a very active general and they have multiple ongoing seasons for different games and kind of racing, give it a look.

Also I'd like to add you'll need to spend A LOT of time setting your gamepad/wheel when starting to play.
I spent the first few weeks getting absolutely mad because I couldn't seem to fucking drive or set up a car, every car seemed to be understeering into another dimension, only to find out the speed sensitivity and the linearity of the steering input was complete shit by default and made most cars an absolute pain to drive.

I don't know if those with wheels had it easier, but a quick look at the forums confirmed that gamepad settings are all kinds of fucked by default and you'll need quite a few driving sessions to set them up correctly

Is there a way to set your navball to a certain celestial object?
For example if you get close enough to the Mun, your prograde/retrograde and other markers switch from relative to Kerbin to relative to the Mun.

But if you are just a bit too far away from the Mun because your course is off, you're stuck with Kerbin indicators and you have to guess where to prograde burn to enter Mun's orbit.

Set target doesn't seem to work with planets and moons, though it would be perfect.
>>
>Civilian Populations has somehow managed to die twice during only a one year period
>have to do population growth calculations by hand
So far, assuming kerbals are pretty much the same as humans, I've managed to get things down to an average population growth of +1 every 7 years for every kerbal on a base
This means that, once a pair of kerbals have lived out their 80 year lifespan, there'll be a net gain of about 22.85 kerbals after they're dead
This takes into account the fact that they're both dead at this point, so they've actually had 24.85 babies
Assuming that the female kerbal can only have kids when she's between the ages of 15 and 40 or 18 and 43, however you want to shift the numbers, this means that during that 25 year period she'll have a baby about every 13.125 months
Obviously this isn't an entirely optimal rate, but this should take into account any other deaths or miscarriages or other things that might make the growth rate not entirely optimal and keep the calculations simple in spite of the fact that dealing with the number 7 triggers me

So, how do my calculations look?
>>
>>147473937
Over time, the birth rate for a given breeding pair should likely decrease, in line with the increase in genetic defects and reduced overall sex drive and fertility. Additionally, I'd incorporate a percentile chance instead of a 100% chance after the birth of a new Kerbal, likely decreasing over time after the breeding pair reach their peak of reproductive potential.
>>
>>147474715
Well, the birth rate being once every 13 months instead of roughly 9 should be enough to account for that
And this is for some space colonization autism I'm doing, so it'd be assumed that there's some sort of mandatory breeding program or something in place
Since I'll have to do all this by hand, I'd rather just get a simple estimation so that I'll roughly know how often a population will double under close to ideal conditions, so I can just set an alarm in KAC at every interval and cheat new kerbals into colonies as needed without having to do anything complicated like keeping track of kerbals' ages in the astronaut complex or any shit like that
I couldn't care less if one of my first colonists has been alive for 143 years, as long as each colony's total population is where it realistically should be then that's good enough for me
>>
>>147475378
>mandatory breeding
l-lewd!
>>
>>147475635
Well, the dumb autism RP is that some asteroid is about to smack into Kerbin, and I have one launch window to throw as many things at Laythe as I can, and from there I have to establish self-sufficiency and then try to colonize the rest of the solar system
So, given that the entire kerbal species' population has been reduced from whatever billions they had before down to whatever hundreds I can manage to haul to Laythe, a mandatory breeding program would certainly be a necessity
>>
Also, according to the math, over a period of 98 years a colony of 100 should grow into a city of 1,638,400

Of course, this is assuming that I never decide to grab 100 kerbals off the colony and set up another one elsewhere on the planet
Also I heard somewhere that the game starts acting weird once the game time goes past a certain point, though what that point is and where I heard this from I don't remember

Did some more math
The Earth's total land area is at about 148,940,000 km^2, and in 1800 the world population was at 1 billion
To have the same population density on every body in the Kerbol system excluding the Sun, Jool, and Kerbin, which amounts to 25,604,520,481 km^2, disregarding Eve and Laythe's oceans, one would need 171,911,645,499 kerbals, which would take about 189 years to get from an initial population of 1,000

Also, including Jool, this would mean 477,993,862,598 km^2 surface area, meaning 3,209,304,838,174 kerbals, which would take about 220 years from an initial population of 1,000
And that's just to get the global population density in 1800

But I know I did. I mean, while I don't like MAN I also don't hate him, I don't hate anyone. But posting like that wasn't nice of me and I'm sorry for it.

I just saw someone else using a fake trip and joined the shitposting. Peer pressure was never my strong suit :(
>>
>>147497309
I'll consider this an erstaz apology anyway. Like I said, I've no actual personal stake in this.

One has to wonder how and why someone who genuinely can't hate or do anything worse than using a fake tripcode uses a medium like anonymous imageboards, however.

I think I started using 4chan about 4 years ago now, I had suffered a personal tragedy and was in a dark place in my life and just wanted somewhere I could vent and talk freely, I went to /b/ a lot back then and I guess I've kinda been on and off since then.

Don't judge me.

Let's just review the layers of memes behind this tripfag: he began posting around the same time the janitor threw out the rule book to remove regulars from the general in December, he taunts regulars, and when asked to tweet, he actually does from Max's account, the absolute madman.

So either it really is Max or it is one of our custodians contacting Max and asking him to tweet, and they're doing it to re-establish the man wars because Squad is taking shit on all sides and they need /kspg/ distracted as the last old devs jump ship.

You decide!

The parts to rebuild my brake caliper shipped. They'll be here almost a week earlier than I had thought. Yay.

Oh shit, I just checked my other order, which was going to be delivered on the 12th. Looks like that should be here on the 7th, along with all of my other stuff. New lug nuts, caliper seals, caliper piston, brake pads, and brake line hardware all in the same day!
>>
>>147535995
So if I use those "rocket names" in the order lookup am I going to find your the orbital parameters of your "space station?"

Those rocket names are actually truncated, so you won't know the orbital parameters of my space station, however if you were to look up the 6 mission designations, you should be able to see what parts failed on my launch system.
>>
>>147535995
Why on earth you would try to rebuild that rusty chunk is beyond me. Any professional brake job would get you new calipers. What are they, like $60?

>>
>>147537335
Because there's something satisfying about rebuilding parts that go on your own vehicle, and so far the experience I have with "other people performing work on this vehicle" has been "the brakes will fail randomly."

All the old caliper needs is some brake cleaner and a steel wire brush. I spent $50 total after shipping on the parts to rebuild the caliper and new pads.

I'd have to spend whatever the fuck a shop wants for 2 remanufactured calipers, and then the cost of new pads all along the front, labor for doing that, and the cost of towing my truck to a shop. Money's tight, so fuck that.

>>
>>147537607
Yeah probably just the front brakes rebuilt would be about 5 hundy at a shop. Well, power to ya, and to your brakes as well.
>>
>>147537819
Exactly. This way I get the experience of doing it myself which is always satisfying, and all of the shit I've had to buy to do the job I now own forever. I had actually been waiting on even owning a jack that could lift my truck because the ground clearance is so high that I can lay underneath it and do whatever I've needed to without lifting it at all. Now I've had to buy a jack and jack stands, and have them until they eat shit, which they shouldn't for a long, long, long time.

Total cost of this has been about $90 for tools, $70 for parts/shipping (that's including 20 new lugs as well) and then about $20 for fluids later.

Way better than $500.
