Whenever someone posts, depending on the person, people get angry and derail the thread to attack them for whatever reason instead of ignoring them to keep discussing whatever they were talking about before. That and GW2 is a 4 year old game now anon, people have seen almost everything and probably don't even play the game anymore, just come here to shitpost and see what's going on with the game.

If you try to discuss the game, you will hit a wall that will drive you to complain about the way ArenaNet has been managing the game and people will tell you, "hey why are you complaining here?" because rightly so ArenaNet do not browse /vg/. Complaining about and discussing critical subjects here will not impact the game in the slightest, so what is the point? ArenaNet's questionable decisions drive people mad, so why stay confined in this containment general expecting to ignore the elephant in the room?

I'm here to check if GW2 has improved any or not. I'd love to read game discussion but I can see why this general is so weak and weird. We need ArenaNet to expand on GW2's current content, not just throw in little bits and pieces every 3-4 months.

It's lively enough. The problem is you're not going to be able to get in with randoms in LFG without experience. Your only real option starting out is to find a group/guild

They're pure support in raids. Their only function is pumping out alacrity and quickness to the party. Sometimes tanking on fights that require it (only like 3 of them). You absolutely cannot play them as a DPS.

Watch a youtube video of a boss. Only a few of them have actual tanking roles. The rest don't require one or the tank is chosen randomly. It's pretty simple.

>How do I get ascended gear in a hurry?
The fastest way would be to buy it. You can make gold fast with AB/certain gathering routes. But you don't -need- armor. You can easily get by with an ascended weapon and trinkets.

Rings from fractals. Earrings from guild missions. Backpiece from fractals or crafted. Amulet from laurels. If you're a mesmer you're probably going to want some/all commanders gear in which case you'd have to settle for exotics. The only way to get the trinkets are from the raid itself.

I've raided in a few games, GW2's raid is fun. If you're an MMO addict and require bosses to have very strict patterns and everyone to have very strict roles you might be disappointed. Also loot may disappoint you because it's mainly for stat combos/skins

I'm one of the "leads" of HOPE raids. As far as I'm aware FUN's raids are closed and it's tough to get in on them if they even still exist.

We're more open to getting new people through raids. We've been attempting to set up training runs weekly and they've been going pretty well, so if your choice is between HOPE and FUN you'd have a better chance with us.
If you do join HOPE you should join the discord. We coordinate most of our raid stuff there and the more you show an interest in getting in on raids and interacting with us, the better it'll be for you.

meh im not feeling GW2
tried 3 chars now, played each ~50 hours.

The WvW can be fun, but its mostly just running checkpoints in a zerg. One zerg smashes the other, no tight fights.

the HoT content is pretty shitty, the events have no meaning and dont reward at all. The Ascended crafting takes months.

Getting into raids is not possible because everyone expects fully ascended geared players, the playerbase is way too low to sustain "beginner" raiding guilds.

LFG channels are mostly dead, chats outside WvW/pvp lobby are dead, acquiring gear without Raiding(does that even reward anything?) is incredibly crazy expensive and thats pretty much all the content the game has

bummer because i still kinda liked it. Oh and you might not notice it as a long-time player, but the game does a TERRIBLE job explaining how 99% of the stuff works(nice outdated wiki) and the community outside of the game is absolutely dead, all you get is "muh meta builds"

WvW is about 50% larger than it needs to be, and the numbers aren't properly limited on each side. It would have been better left as a hotjoin conquest with a set time limit per match rather than a prolonged, two-week slog of rotating zergs.

HoT and ascended items are garbage.

The raids actually don't seem too terribly bad considering how people can do them relatively quickly, but they're made awful indirectly by ascended's existence and the fact that there's such a stringent hardcap on rewards.

The game is pretty ded, yeah.

Yes, the lore has been fucked for years, and the meta is a bottleneck. It's a stupid response--"muh meta builds"--but it's the honest and right answer considering how GW2 plays.

Im a pretty new player, i know people in GW2 don't give a shit about them(hence the reason the game gets barely any new blood) but those ultra professional "wikis"(literally what game has to use a fucking wiki) tell me something about 36 days just to get the materials.

I have no idea how to get gold, i have no gold, and basically everything in the game is "full ascended or fuck off". That is, btw, the only game i ever encountered such mindsetting.

You don't need full ascended for anything in this game except fractals. And even then, a mainhand and offhand weapon will cost, together, a total of 16 days worth of timegated materials at worst.

The only things you need ascended armor and weapons for are high level fractals and raids. A full set of ascended armor is only a 5% stat increase. The weapons and trinkets are a 10% difference, and are worth getting. You can get rings for free from doing low level fractals, as well as a chance for other ascended drops. You can get the other trinkets using guild commendations or laurels.

If you're intent of crafting the items, you buy the materials that you don't feel like waiting to make. If you need gold, start doing fractals, dungeons (which require no ascended at all), and the HoT meta events. Silverwastes are also a very good source of gold.

sounds conflicting.

I asked a few guys(not that there is any easy way to find groups since the PUG community is absolutely dead, fucking Tera has more active PUG groups) and literally each and every single one of them said, and i dead serious, that i would need ascended gear and the experience because they dont want to carry scrubs.
I also asked in a certain guild that originates from here, got ignored and received a pretty smug "git gud lel :^)"

I looked a bit around outside the games echo chambers that are reddit and its official forums and quite a few people seems to having the same issue.

See this is another thing. Nobody ever tells you that. And if they do tell you something, its vague and if you require further help "lmao use the /wiki" which is outdated and tooltip from items sure are helpful. But again, getting into fractals, finding a pug group in the first place, is simply impossible.

The reason why people who still play the game don't seem to note or discuss the problem with ascended timegates is because it was trickled in bit by bit by anet's slow as fuck content release schedule. Playing the game throughout its lifetime yielded ascended items at a relatively tolerable pace. It was still shitty, but it was far worse to acquire ascended as it came out rather than trying to play the game now from scratch and encountering, yes, literally months of timegates. Gear at launch was limited to Exotic tier items, but not two months afterward, the first ascended items were introduced and everything from then on out was fucked.

dude i felt no pain leveling a character on nostalrius(classic wow realm) and gearing that one, which is a massive grind but the way how its done in GW2 is absolutely garbage. they are flat out lying about "you don't need gear at all!!!!!!!" and their constant talk about how GW2 has no gear treadmill at all.

I absolutely love massive investments and longterm stuff to do, but when its for such shallow characters like those in GW2 which only define themselves by who spend the most actual IRL money on them, i doesnt feel right. It feels cheap.

You need ascended armor for high level fractals because there's a hardcoded mechanic to it where you get fucked. Note HIGH LEVEL fractals. You can do low level fractals with nothing and gradually get higher as you get more pieces of ascended.

You don't NEED any ascended for raids. Jewelry and weapon is good, armor very unnnecssary.

If youre asking what makes a friend, thats kinda subjective from person to person.
If you want ideas or examples, i guess my own definition of a friend, especially online is someone i can typically respect, enjoy ones company and have a want to continue keeping in touch with.
As a personal touch, i also tend to not ask for names, genders, pics or anything tying to real life. Mystery does a double job of keeping things.. Well mysterious, as well as letting me judge someone solely on their personality and thoughts.
Not to mention the race and character people make in game tend to say enough things about the person as is.
