I think I can carry 108 KG with a Goldfish and Snowflake, so that allows for a lot of extra shit. I can easily have loot and some rare guns/suits and still make it back to base.

I don't see it as a problem early game unless you're of a faction who is hostile to most others and cannot use traders. There are lots of traders to get rid of junk at. Even as Monolith with one trader I had no problems.

Here's a bunch near conquered Skadovsk, a few zombies were further in.

Then I installed all the small mods over that with care that there is no overwrite. There were none except some textures that I chose individually for each conflict.

I've cracked how to make new bumpmaps with Paint.NET and Gimp, so I'm making custom bumpmaps for NPC skins.

They need work, though. I know how the specular maps that serve as base for the normalmap are made, but it's a pain in the ass getting them right.

It's easier to just autogenerate normalmaps from the new skins.

Thing is that all skins with camo came out particularly bumpy because that's not the proper way to make them.

Would love to know how Argus made his NPC bumpmaps.

Autogenerated bumpmaps straight from the skin always have these flaws, even with those tools. The proper way to make normalmaps, in all those programs, is to start from a proper grayscale specular.

To be honest, the bumpmaps I've made are not that off from the bumpmaps made by GSC. Only a handful of them were made from edited specular maps, and the rest (particularly monster skins) were probably autogenerated with the NVidia tools.

I think the reason mine come out particularly bumpy compared to vanilla bumpmaps is the noise/sharpness of the normalmap plug in I'm using.

Early tests indicate that applying gaussian blur on the finished custom bumpmaps get them closer to the default ones.

Seems like if you take out some enemy fortifications they don't come back in CoC, I took out the Freedom checkpoint to the Radar at Army Warehouses a few days back and when I went there now I saw only Monolith patrolling.

Actually, no. Each time I download a mod, and see the weapon bloat it comes with I die a little inside.

But lately I've been starting bloating my personal mod, and I'm not exactly sure why.

I guess I want to see how many items I can stuff in the vanilla ui_icon_equipment before I got to increase the canvas size.

My own modified ZRP.

Available new weapons: Shortened TOZ-34, Full TOZ-66, Prototype FN-F2000, FN P90, PKM, AKMS, SVU-A. Plus some uniques from Call of Pripyat (Wolfhound's USP, Alpine, Tide).

None have been implemented in-game yet, will add them to traders to be sold after finishing the game.

The artifacts are all the COP artifacts, some with their own properties, others upgrades to vanilla artifact properties. The names are all shamelessly stolen from Lost Alpha because I couldn't bother to come up with new names.

Will add them to anomaly spawn rates once I determine how rare I want them to be.

The food items all restore more satiety and health than vanilla food items. They cost slightly more, but all have better weight/benefit ratios.

They'll only be available through traders (Barkeep and Sid only, probably).

Well, I did have to add 5.7x28mm for the P90, 7.62x39mm for the AKMS, the 7.62x54mmR for the PKM and restored the 9x18mm PBP (though still haven't made any slav weapon use them).

And I've been giving thought to making .50 ammo for the Desert Eagle. What better way to waste time than making an expensive, trader-only ammo type for a relatively rare weapon I never actually use when I actually get my hands on it.

Been a very long time since I've played stalker. I'm looking for a really brutal sandbox-y experience where I can have varied games with generally very low life-expectancy. Dynamic missions would be fantastic too. I remember liking all the games for their own reasons, but I don't remember much about the individual mods.

It looks like my options are probably CoC, Faction War, DMM and Echo of Chernobyl 2. Any recommendations among those, or should I try them all out? Are there any other good freeplay mods I should be aware of?

Also, is there anything I can combine with those four to make things more, uh, dynamic? Like can Massive Simulation Overhaul work alongside CoC?

I'd recommend CoC with the RC patch 4.1, it's quite good, especially with Arsenal Overhaul or STCOP Weapon Pack. Just make sure you follow the install instructions closely and read the last page of the comments for a quick fix on quest completion. If you like, Warfare should also be updated for the RC, and provides a Clear Sky-esque faction war on a massive scale (although it is a bit buggy, still being worked on)

The Faction War for Clear Sky is also pretty great, despite having many of the frustrating bugs inherent in Clear Sky's faction war system. The ranking/leveling system is interesting and links to what kind of items traders will sell you (mostly expensive suits/guns)

DMM:AE and Echo of Chernobyl are basically bare-bones freeplay, but EoC2 does have pretty amazing graphics.

MSO isn't compatible with CoC, but CoC is quite dynamic already. Quests are somewhat minimal, but pretty fun anyways. Apparently there's a small storyline that you can choose to follow but I haven't delved into it at all.

With all Steam games, when you install the game you have to update it to the latest version. At that point, if you turn off automatic updates for that game and there are no online play shenanigans at work, Steam doesn't give a flying fuck what you do to it until you turn updates back on or validate the cache.

Higher dificulties reduce ammo damage slightly, and makes more NPC shots actually hit you.

You hit or not depending on how good your ammo spread is and how good you aim is. Spraying in auto deals less damage than accurate, timed bursts or fast single shots.

Steam doesn't update unless there's a new update available, which there basically never is for this game. There no negative at all to playing the steam version. The drag and drop downgraders in the repo make it trivial to go from 1.0006 to any version.

Untranslated. Regular Geo translation works. David.ME's 2017 repack for 1.7 has an improved translation that you could merge with the Geo translation. Check that GSC thread for some of this.

You'll need to merge in weapon translations from STCoP - suggest grabbing the version from CoC addons.

Now you're being cheeki. But consider the following: almost everything that applies to you applies to the enemies. For example, you can loot EVERYTHING they have, they can run out of ammo, their weapons will jam, they'll get shocked by suppressive fire just like your characters do.

Additionally I guess I could tell you this:

During the stat allocation bring gunfighting to at least 45 (affects exclusively hipfiring) and accuracy to 40 (affects snapshots and aimed shots, it'll naturally increase really fast), throwing to 40 (less than that and your grenade throws will be complete trash accuracy wise, also kinda hard to level up), camouflage to at the very least 70 (AFAIK it's really hard to raise that stat).

7.62 has an "accustoming to guns" system, basically a character will be able to use a gun to its full potential only after getting used to it. In HL you can talk to gunsmiths that will teach you how to use guns (read: get 100% accustomization) for a small fee. In vanilla and BSM you have to grind for that shit and it takes a long while. IIRC HL also multiplies the speed at which your "experience" stat rises by ten which is great and makes sense unlike vanilla/BSM, in which your character behaves like a green shitter (having adrenaline shoot through the roof and getting in shock status after seeing >3 enemies in less than 10 seconds) even after having slaughtered a couple dozens of enemies.

In Hard Life you can fold the bayonets of guns that have integrated ones (you can't in both vanilla and BSM), and that affects the weapon's balance stat which in turns determines among other things how long it takes to shoulder the gun and aim. It tones down the AI, so that it isn't fucking terminator tier like in vanilla or BSM.

Knifing an enemy from behind him is an instakill. Check every nook and cronnie for free shit.

Hard Life tips:
You can make a stash by using your character's dog tags. The dog tags can be used also for fishing, gathering wood for fires, hunting, etc.
Don't make stashes in cities, the rebel camp, or any location that is signed on the map, they'll disappear. Use a box instead, or ask the town's mayor if there aren't any boxes.
If you have a shovel in your hands you can build sandbags, fences, etc.
Return the APS to that faggot, he'll give it back to you as a reward for a quest later.
Don't sell ANY of the shit you get after your first fight, keep all of it. You can turn the shit tier underpowered 7.62x51 ammo carried by the soldiers in half decent ammo by taking it in your hands and selecting the "clean and sort" option from the right click menu (you can do this for some other kinds of ammo too). You'll get a third of the rounds you originally had, rounded down. Also obviously use the best FAL from the batch.

Don't bother with their helmets, they are shit. Why hang on to shitty half broken FALs? Because later on you can give gift them to the gunsmith and that will improve your standing with the guerrillas (which means becoming able to get some GOOD weapons from the gunsmith).
You can skip the guerrilla quests if you want to (but you really shouldn't). Just wear a soldier uniform and go to Puerto Vieho. You better carry everything you can with you though.

Nahy, the whole "suppressor on gun=less velocity and damage" thing you see in a lot of games is an abstraction of throwing on a suppressor, *and* using special subsonic ammunition together, which on something like a 5.56 gun means cutting the usual velocity of the calibre to almost to a third of what it typically is.

It's actually really funky to get it. To even get non-unique NPCs in Cordon to give you quests. You certainly have to go through the Southern entrance dodging the machinegun, otherwise it all bugs out (I played vanilla Clear Sky multiple times).
And yeah, don't talk to Sid or Wolf or anyone from the story questline, just approach the squad leaders for quests. If they give the first one to you you should be safe.

And oh shit, I didn't know the Stalker wiki was so detailed.

Displayed weapon values are from an external script, ui_weapon_parans, whose output is also used for NPC weapon selection. Actual damage calculations are in the binary.

The UI weapon params script does major fuckery for both accuracy and damage so what you see in game is a rough approximation at best, especially for accuracy where how you choose to fire has a major impact (waiting a sec between shots for eg)

SGM dynamic news is a bitch to translate and the system keeps changing in each release. Only translation is for 2.2 I think it was. 2.0 has a complex system with the Russian spread across multiple scripts. Even as committed a translator as David ME gave up on that shit

I haven't found any toolkits yet, but the whole point of finding them is so technicians can upgrade your weapons, so it would make them useless if it removed them.

i just used the basic Geo translation David.me put up.

And yeah, other than news, only a few items arent translated. Then again news isn't translated in regular Geo anyway.

What's disappointing is that this version of Geo isn't just STCoP thrown on to it, the mod changes some stuff, for the worse imo.

It fucks with mutant spawns, and adds in weird ones like the roaming (non-shooting)zombie packs and spiders. probably other stuff too. also for the short time i played everything killed me in a single hit with a beril, even mid-tier mutants packed a ridiculous punch.

It's definitely playable with the translation. to be honest i really didn't do much, just replaced a few files.

Sometimes people change the ammo type to something more common if its a weapon they like, but it might also affect the stats, i'm not sure.

basically, when you die in ironman mode, instead of deleting your save, it immediately spawns you at the starting location as a new stalker with starting gear, and your old gear gets dropped as a corpse which you can loot for your old shit. that's it. it's still the same save/playthrough and i think existing systems would take care of someone else looting your corpse first, so you can just find your upgraded shit again on other people. true permadeath.

I bought SoC but it kept crashing so I just gave up and got CoP. I'm liking it so far and I got the MSO mod but I'm not sure if it is activated. I put the gamedata folder in my install directory, but there wasn't already a gamedata folder. Is this how it's supposed to be?
