Bamco sound team streams in 5 hours. Should be something interesting there
PA Twitter also posted 7 teasers
>>
>>147128038
The point is, there's some interesting stuff on their Twitter, not like anyone's bothered to check for a while, that could bring discussion, and the sound team stream is worth keeping things up for just in case they surprise us
>>
>>147128430
If something interesting comes up by all means bring it to people's attention, but if virtually nothing is shown at E3 I doubt we'll get anything good on a random Thursday night with no big hurrah beforehand.
>>
>>147128585
You never know.
Besides, have you seen the magazine covers on their twitter? It's pretty fucking nifty that they're doing some groundwork for the plot already
>>
>>147129090
Yeah, that is cool. Sad to see so much emphasis on drones phasing out people but I guess it's just addressing the elephant in the room. Maybe they'll do something cool with it.

It's fixable, but not well. The sound quality would probably suffer for how fucked the wires are. I would recommend just buying a new one.

Just cut out the damaged portion and then splice it back together.

Alternatively, spend $8 on a new one.

SCART is the shit. Best analog connector ever made. It can carry composite, component (both YUV and RGB), s-video, and some other signals nobody uses. Pity it never took off outside PAL regions.
>>
Did Namco sound team reveal anything AC related in their stream this morning?
>>
>>147153576
It works, no quality degradation either. Time for some comfy ac04.
>>
>>147153683

>>
>>147155156
We used composite for the longest time. Some consoles supported component. Eventually HDMI got popular and analog stopped mattering.

There's two sites.

There's the Air and space museum in the capital (has the ww2 and space stuff/experimentals and civil stuff, check out the F-4 simulator.)

Most of the big/interesting stuff is in the steven f udvar hazy center.

All you really need is homing L for standards, though I'm at level 12 for my standard CFA so your experience is different. As for the combo part I don't think so, if there is it isn't easy to see. You should have some slots though that's the nice thing about light parts.

I really do want to know why the hate, though. I dropped by /simg/ once to ask how alive PvP was (because you know, fighter combat) and they threw a shitfit. I can't for the life of me understand why.
>>
So about a week ago I found a PS2 laying around in my garage that my old man had put aside 2 years ago and forgot to tell me about, Immediately got out the 3 AC games on it and I have to say, time had really distorted some of the praise I had for that game.

I think the worst part was AC5's attempt at characters, It was the most godawful cringey trash. For whatever reason, AC5 has alot more of that dirty nip pacifist drivel that honestly felt like a massive cockblock through the whole thing. AC4 and 0 had the characters down perfectly, Soldiers, who fly and face death, nothing more needed. The Flight models felt tighter in AC5 than 4 but I didnt notice much of a difference between 5 and 0's. Did anyone else notice the analog sensitivity on AC5 was really fucking weird? Like Id have to press down really fucking hard, I thought it was from using an OG PS2 controller from 2005 but when I got to 0 it didnt have that issue.

I liked the unlock system for planes in AC5 than the others, progression and mastering a plane felt nice but the games campaign length really isnt suited for it. Really a shame. I was also surprised that cockpit view was extremely limited, just a static panel model and you couldnt even look into the meat of it, it would cut off right at the top.

Why is AC5 so widely praised for its story? It was so obtuse and awful, the links to the Belkan war were really cool but the disgusting character padding and dialogue was just too much to take any of that seriously.

>>147326352
The flight sim stance towards AC fans is for the most part snobbish and comes in part from (in my honest opinion completely warranted) elitism from people that have been playing combat flight sims online since the 80s, in part because the worst part of the fanbase tended (and still does at least to some extent) to use lore related handles online and being cancerous retards, which in turns got flight simmers to play the games (and some of them absolutely didn't like them one bit because they aren't the target audience at all I suppose).

And this doesn't have anything with /simg/ itself. /simg/'s attitude towards AC players was snobbish at the very beginning, much like most of the flight simming community, until a couple ACfags went in butthurt mode after someone criticized the game's bad parts (and also praised what he thought were the good aspects) and completely shat up that thread, and after that they started shitting up other threads on purpose.

No im afraid not, I come here sporadically, I dont own a PS3 for Infinity but the idea of not being able to play as much as I want without paying for fuel puts me off, and yonks ago when I came here to talk about the OG PS2 games I just got shouted down that theyd already discussed them to the point there was nothing left to discuss. I was just throwing out my 2 cents after not having touched the games in so long.

On another note I noticed some really fucking weird AI behavior, especially on larger aircraft like the Enemy AWACs, Refuelers and such, Theyd just start maneuvering like fighters and fly through the ground lol
The first 3-5 times I fought Pixy on the last mission were horrible, the AI would outright avoid any altitude above 2.4km apparently and would just turn away from me no matter what(This is on the head on sequence, I had to start the mission from the Avalon Dam strike from the beginning to fix it)

Would you guys recommend a PS3 for infinity? Its been a long time since its release, is it alright? I always only ever heard people say its the absolute devil or praise its shit like it was a holy second coming. Im a bit hesitant to shell out for a PS3 since I got a 360 a long time ago for AC 6 and Armored Core FA, but it wouldnt take a long amount of my time to grab and theyre cheap, alongside some other interesting games
>>
>>147329501

>Must've missed that fun.
It was unbelievably cancerous, not even the admins could bear it anymore, one of our old tripfags said that they turned on to IRC and other IMs (and also invited a few of the decent posters there) and basically started to consider ACS as a chore in a matter of not even 2 years.

>>147329674
Yeah the head-on sequence seems to get bugged every now and then.

As for infinity, no clue I don't play it anymore, the fuel stuff was just too annoying and it's not that great after a while. Just here for the PS2 and PSX games.

It's not Assault Horizon at least, so they fixed that part.

AC6 is pretty good though few planes and fewer but longer missions compared to the PS2 games if you ignore the annoying girl.
>>
>>147330172
I don't know what particular sperg you're talking about but I'll just say that BoS had a fuckton of problems at launch, and not all of them got addressed.
>>
>>147330172
I didnt mind the story in AC 6, the part where the former stovie military doods at the end said themselves, if they had the choice to have not started the war, they still would have gone through with it really resonated. I thought it was a decent war story, and thankfully it removed its cutscene characters from the game itself, which is something 5 really fucked up on.

The flying is without a doubt the best, but that said I havent played AC: I. Fewer planes wouldnt have been a problem if they didnt all fly so similarly, at least the early aircraft. I shekeled up for every alt skin DLC, a total of 150 dollars

Its like having 50 planes :^)
>>

Story was ok, I'm just saying that Angels shit was annoying because they kept repeating it as we all know.

For Gault, they were the masterminds behind the entire AWWNB, the lead pilot was the inventor of the v2. They were the bad guys behind the whole game and sort of behind AC5 as well.

What the fuck are you on? The furry and a few of the other decent people from the TS regularly offer to tutor new people and they've been doing that from october 2015 if not earlier (the /wgg/ days).

You generally get told to kill yourself, fuck off and get laughed at respectively if:
You come off as an ACfag (and I already amply explained why) or /wtg/;
Post something like "how do i get mad a2a killz xdd";
You post something really dumb such as "how do I boom and zoom in a 4th gen jet fighter", "do I really need a joystick".

Other than that we're usually helpful.

>The Schnee faggots if you purposefully ignore the EA-6, Silber if you ignore the F-4
I'll elaborate on that a bit:
Schnee is hard because in AC most of your SA comes from the radar, and using the right stick for looking around is clunky as fuck. You can't even lock on them with triangle because you'll lose the lock.
If you have headtracking and rig shit so that you can look around with it the whole fight becomes trivial

If you ignore the F-4 the Silber F-16s have actually good AI, think of early AC04 Yellows - except without the plot armor. Still not too troublesome though as long as you can use the gun well.

>>147335973

>>
>>147336916

It's stale as fuck and so is the post PS2 AC formula. I know it, you know it, the nonretarded part of the AC fanbase knows it, PA knows it. Was trying to change the formula a good idea? Yes. Was AH a huge mistake? YES.

>the wingman in 6 was pretty tasteful, and useful too.
Eh I have mixed feelings about him. I liked his personality and story, his voice was mediocre, his AI is weird as he usually fires a salvo of SP weapons then proceeds to do dickall for 5 good minutes, then if you press the attack button again he fires another salvo. If it were for me I'd make the wingman much more aggressive and make so that his kills don't count towards getting the S rank. You get money from your wingman's kills but like a quarter of the original amount. That way turboshitters could finish the game and good players would have at least a bit of a challenge.
>>
>>147338282
>post PS2
I mean from the PS2 games onwards.

I for one would also love to have a new AC that is more like Air Combat or AC2 in both spirit and gameplay.
>>
>>147338282
Yeah, no, after AC 5 I wouldnt ever trust PA with anything to do with actual Character depth. Even what I barely touched with AH, it was that cringey trash again, ill pass. I dont mind some depth and background being given about who youre playing or the previous protags of the earlier games, but outside of that it just cant be done well by them, nor does it have to. They said themselves, and its why theyre so reluctant to give details on the protags themselves, is that the player is meant to imagine himself as the pilot, not someone else.
>>
>>147338490
>is that the player is meant to imagine himself as the pilot, not someone else.
Here's the thing: I can't do that. Why? My personal decisions don't affect the outcome of things (everything always goes in the exact same way), or better yet, the player can't take ANY significant decision save for TWO games, being AC3JP except your choices are kind of irrelevant in the end so nevermind and ACX, which is kind of a waste of potential if you ask me, as there is no benefit in rushing for Griswall, only downsides, which is fucking stupid if you think about it.

>after AC 5 I wouldnt ever trust PA with anything to do with actual Character depth

So drifting away from AC5 for a bit, what are the thoughts on 3? Given that that also had a huge story apparently.

I just don't like the whole coorporation vs coorporation thing they had going from what I remember, nor the semi-futuristic stuff. But that's just me.
>>
>>147338824
Youre choice is meant to be what you wanna fly, what weapons you wanna load and how you wanna fly. What do you think youre doing? Just some free roleplay jock who flys into wars with no regards for chain of command or military structuring? Youre either a National Fighter pilot or youre a Merc, both of these things are in positions and sectors where you absolutely do what youre told by the higher ups. Youre not payed/hired to shit up the battlefield with your emotional/verbal projection, youre payed to shut up, shoot the enemy up and do your goddamned job.

I get where youre coming from, but you just cant throw it in there that easily. And if PA tried, im certain itd be a massive drain. Save that for the Online games, Why they havent done a persistent world faction war style thing like Armored Core V/VD baffles me, the series is perfect for that and with some built in VoiP would handle all of that.

>>
>>147338824
I don't think you're supposed to have any major decisions. You're the soldier, nit the general. The only decisions you shoukd make is in how you carry out your mission, not whether you do so or not. It would be too ambitious to follow that route unless they do something in the vein of an AC3 JAP remake.
>>
>>147339256
>you just cant throw it in there that easily
It's not like dynamic campaign generators are a thing since about 2002 if not earlier.
>>
>>147339161
It was at a period where Cyberpunk Dystopia was big in Japan, if it was received better by the playerbase in Japan we would probably have alot more games with more branching stories and mission/faction variety.

Air Combat - Ace Combat 2 was a nice, steady and easy ride between the two, but then you got 2 - 3 and youre thrown into this massive fucking backstory in a fictional Earth with fucking Ghost in the Shell sprinkled all over. Its really fucking cool, but sit down and think what kinds of people were playing ARCADE shooters and how much of a deviation that it mightve been for them
>>
>>147339161
This is probably coming from my love of MGS2, but I loved the paranoid futurism AC3 had, including the whole deal with Nemo. Frankenplanes are the best since they give you a lot of creative liberty for loadouts, weapons, and handling. The music fit perfectly, the HUD was God's sexy gift to mankind, and I love how they took AC2's route aspect and took it up to 11.

>>
>>147339071
I'm saddened that I can't filter you, but anyway:
Faggots that play public non objective based PVP threat it as if it's some sort of shitty fighting game.

In IL-2, every PvP TDM server used the shitty simcade settings and had a shitty set of rules such as
1. No vulching= shooting down planes that are taking off or landing.
2. No boom and zoom (because the average Spitfire nigger is so inept he can't even counter it despite the fact that their plane is perfect for it, they were completely unable to perfom any kind of teamwork). This effectively makes a lot of planes pointless.
If you did either of those you got banned. Sometimes admins would ban even good players from the opposite team, I shit you not. You'd perfectly fit in that environment (if only any of those shitty servers survived to this day, unlike the full realism autism ones that run objective based PvP).

In DCS you have:
the 104th server, airquake faggotry where every side has the exact same plane, which consists in F-15s flying at above the contrailing altitude lobbing their AIM-120s then legging it back to base to load more, and so on.
BlueFlag, "dynamic" campaign (gets worse and worse with every new round, went from being interesting to being more like Battlefield's conquest mode), where both sides act like huge children, the NATO side usually boycotts the 80's ruleset because they don't get AIM-120s and most NATO players aren't capable of putting the actually good AIM-7 to use, and the PACT players boycott the 2000's ruleset because of AIM-120 spam AND NATO players completely filling the server. the most retarded people from the teamspeak managed to get themselves permabanned and it was glorious
Again, you'd fit right in in both.

Realism is not a meaningful argument especially applied to fucking Ace Combat.
But if you I can give you a precedent, in ACX you're the errand boy and the highest ranking person in the AAF at the same time.

Consider this >>147339426. The biggest turndown would be that the game wouldn't be fully voiced if you give the player too much freedom. You could also do a semi dynamic thing with branching paths depending on your strategy and your performance.

And yet all of these cannons never measured up to bombs and rockets.

The 129 B-3 had a superior 75mm cannon, sure, but it had zilch in the way of defensive armament and only a pair of puny 8mm MGs to fall back on. B-25s had up to 18 .50s and the ability to, you know, actually bomb shit.

The gunpod looks way sexier than the B-25's internal cannon, I will admit.
>>
>>147384658
Bombs and rockets were hot garbage in WWII at killing tanks. Stuff like the G model Stukas were by far the best at tankbusting. The problem with the B-3 Hs. 129 was weight, not the armament. The one equipped with the 3.7 cm cannon and the 30mm MK103 were both fantastic tank busters.

Aircraft in general were hot garbage at killing tanks.

Even the purpose built German and Soviet tank ground attack craft posted miserable numbers.

Statistically, look at the number of claimed kills, and then divide it by 10-20 and you'll get something close to the number of actual kills.
>>
>>147385595
Agreed, but guns were still much better than rockets, which themselves were a lot better than bombs.
>>
>>147385721
Situationally better.

If you're diving at a tank from above, the best weapon in this case is the Cannon, because the thinnest armor is also the easiest to hit. Seldom were these true kills, but a mobility kill on the way to the battle is just as important as a total kill during a battle.

On the other hand, from any other angle, 20/30mm cannons were no more effective than .50 or even .303 weapons. All were equally as effective against unarmored thinskinned vehicles, which is where air power was most effective against tanks, denying them logistic support.

On the other hand, Rockets used by western allies would almost always result in a kill if they struck the target from almost any facing and angle. Unfortunately, accuracy was on the order of about 5%, and most aircraft only carried 10 rockets.

Bombs used by the Germans were very ineffective against tanks, as most of them were too small (50kg or 250kg being the most common). Western allies tended to use heavier (1,000lb) weapons. While bombs were the hardest to use accurately, they somewhat made up for the fact that a direct hit wasn't necessary for a mobility kill.
>>
>>147386456
Actually you have to remember that most tanks during the war had some sort of angled armor. Take the T-34 and T-34-85 for example. Their hull armor is only 45mm and is angled at 45 degrees on the side. A 45 degree attack angle is quite easy to do, and guns that can easily penetrate 45mm of RHA are easy to mount on planes. But yeah, generally planes were better at strafing soft targets than armor.
>>
>>147386667
"It was on or off—that simple. If you jinked hard and you were good at it you could survive. Now, not everybody could hit from such a jinking approach with such a tiny amount of tracking time, but with experience you could do both. You could come in, jink, survive, track for a very small amount of time and get good hits. Hit within that 10 centimeters that you had to.. Secondly, he said they normally did not change their attack direction because of the presence of flak. They preferred to attack from the rear. For them there was a bigger vulnerable area from the rear into the engine or into the back of the turret. If because of where they were and they wanted to a'-tack directly, the other preferred attack was from the side. That was harder because the vulnerable area Into the munitions from the side was quite a bit smaller, but they world attack on occasion from the side and try to aim for just that spot where they knew they could get into the munition containers."

Do you know what those blast radii happen to be?

A modern Mk82 (roughly equivalent to an Sprengbombe Cylindrisch 250, SC250 used 130kg explosive kg TNT/Amatol compared to the Mk82's 90kg of tritonal) has a blast radius (radius at where the blast pressure causes injury or damage) of only 13 meters.

SC50s had a explosive filler that was 55% by weight, which meant only 27kg of explosive filler.

So if a modern explosive with 90kg of 1.05 TNT equivalency has a blast radius of 13m, what do you think an SC50 with only 27kg of explosive filler at ~.96 TNT equivalency would have for an effective blast radius against vehicles?
>>
>>147398396
If we consider that modern explosives trade power in favor of stability (thermal and shock resistance) and that the most widely used explosives in WW2 had the tendency of degrading (read: become even less stable and more powerful)? Probably.

But that's kind of a moot point in the end as the biggest problem wasn't the ordnance but the absolute shit sights.
>>
>9
>>
>>147398773
>If we consider that modern explosives trade power in favor of stability (thermal and shock resistance) and that the most widely used explosives in WW2 had the tendency of degrading (read: become even less stable and more powerful)? Probably.

See, TNT is kind of a benchmark. All explosives are compared to tritonal.

Amatol (50% TNT + 50% ammonium nitrate) has a relative equivalency of .96 compared to TNT. It's only 91% as powerful by weight compare to TNT.

SC bombs were 60/40 mix of Amatol and TNT.

Tritonal has a relative equivalency of 1.05 It's 105% as powerful as TNT by weight.

Kilo for Kilo, modern explosives are more powerful than what was used in WW2 (at least for german air dropped munitions.)

The statement was,
">most of them were too small (50kg or 250kg being the most common)
Lol because a 50kg bomb doesn't make a blast at all, right? Spoiler: it does and it would've been more than capable of killing the crew, and getting rid of an experienced crew is arguably better than destroying a tank."

The point I am trying to make is that, given the relative inaccuracy of ww2 bombs, the larger the explosive (and hence blast radius,) the more likely it is that a single dropped bomb can damage a vehicle.

A 1,000lb bomb will have a lethal blast radius of nearly 30m. That's nearly double the margin of error.

Analysis of Dive Bombers in the Pacific war shows a CEP of 53m.That means 50% of bombs dropped would land within 53m of the target.

If only 50% of bombs land within 53m, what percentage can land within 1/4th of that distance compared to how many can land in one half?
>>
>>147400586
Given the sheer amount of tanks the krauts faced using 500kg bombs would've been impractical. Anyway, if I recall correctly they used mostly 250kg bombs on tanks, but I'd have to re read Rudel's book for being sure.

>53m CEP
The Stuka could reach ~30 meters CEP.
>>
>>147400995
So 50% of bombs dropped by the Stuka will land within 30m, presumably against immobile targets in training conditions. (Marine aviators reached CEP of 50' under those conditions)

The SC250 needs to land within 13m of a tank.

The SC50 needs to land within 5m of a tank.

a 500kg bomb would need to land within 30m of a tank.

Thus, we are looking at hit rates of

50% for 500kg
21% for 250kg
8% for 50kg

Thus a 500kg bomb is roughly 2.5x as effective as a 250kg bomb, and 6.25x as effective as a 50kg bomb.
>>
>/aceg/: accurate bombing edition
>>
>>147401750
Actually the Single Shot Kill Probability for the SC250 and SC50 would be even worse since probability doesn't scale linearly (I was being lazy before.)

SSKP or the SC50 to land within 5m of a tank with a CEP of 30, assuming normal distribution, it would actually be only 1.132%

SSPK for the SC250 to land within 13m with a CEP of 30 is 7.4%.

SSPK for the 500kg bomb to land within 28m with a CEP of 30 is 39.05%.

This is quite consistent with historical data regarding claimed and real kill ratios during ww2 with so called 'tank busters'

Sounds like someone is getting flustered.

Marine aviators reached, under ideal conditions, CEP of 15m while divebombing. Under combat conditions this went up to 53m (attacking fortified land positions in the face of enemy fire.)

Even assuming that the alleged 30m CEP of Stukas was achieved regularly by German pilots, regardless of personal skill or experience, because those german things are Just That Good, the math still stands.

If we wanted to go deeper, we could find just how many of each weapons it would take, statistically, to disable the target.

p(kill)n = 1 – (1-TKP)^n

Where n is the number of weapons used.

TKP is the terminal kill probability, which is R*SSPK (where R = 1 because we'll be assuming that there is a 0% dud rate, historically this would be as high as 30%)

Here, I'll even let you do the math so you can feel like you're contributing to the discussion instead of just being completely blown the fuck out.

CLmax problems with flaps or margin on the entire wing: Flaps produce a larger pitching moment about the c.g. on a canard aircraft. This results in the need for both large canard aerodynamic incidence change and high maximum canard lift coefficient. Note that since the value of a S is usually larger for canard designs, Cm0 has a greater impact on L than it does on aft-swept designs.

Induced drag / CLmax incompatibility: Canard designs can achieve equal or better CLmax values than conventional designs, and similar values of span efficiency. However, the configurations with high CLmax values have terrible values of e and those with respectable e 's have low maximum lift coefficients.

Wing twist distribution is strange and CL dependent: The wing additional load distribution is distorted by the canard wake.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, canard sizing is much more critical than aft tail sizing. By choosing a canard which is somewhat too big or too small the aircraft performance can be severely affected. It is easy to make a very bad canard design.

Because it was, and it still is, a mess. First of all, it was originally thirty bucks, a price it didn't warrant at release since it didn't work well, didn't have stuff to keep some kind of players' community like matchmaking or even a decently functioning server browser, and on top of that it had quite a lot of typos and grammar mistakes in the ingame text, which wasn't even a lot given they added how to play tips later. The updates were always too late to do any good, like the fabled May update that came out in late July, which added stuff no one cared about like that gimmicky airship assault thing since the "novice" players it was supposed to cater to were long gone, and on the other hand they did very dumb balance changes like nerfing homing stuff to uselessness by making barrell rolls spammable to no end, which made the already spastic flying model even worse. The playerbase is so low and so autistically clingy they cannot help themselves but play deathmatch all the time and lie to themselves by telling that's how the game is supposed to be, that all the other modes are an aftertought, nevermind all the work the devs tried to put into them to save that sorry pile of crap.
>>
>>147425805
I like the F-4 as much as the next guy, but there's only so much you can do to an airframe before you start getting rapidly diminishing returns.

You can put that off with new builds, but eventually you need a clean sheet design. Technology isn't stuck in the 80s.

Imagine it with the next-gen tech and stuff in AC7. Would need a bit more of fluff to make it AC-worthy

>flying a Hercules below 100ft avoiding air defenses
>fighters escorting and providing aid to the land teams in real time, constantly switching between CAS and dogfighting

Would be cool

You know, weaponless ring battle is supposedly better for credits and stuff, but regular mode is still the best thing in this game. Killing the rivals like sitting ducks and harassing their defenders is simply amazing.

Hell, there was this game a bit earlier where everyone literally gave in to hate and started killing each other, in the end there were still yellow rings without being taken, pure bloodlust abounding. It was magical.
