Bounding Dalamadur ain't shit compared to Gravios Niggacannon, Kama Sedition, any light bowgun with rapid fire dragon, and any of the top greatswords. Anubis also outclasses it against blast resistant targets and has less downtime because it has more than a tick of purple.

When you factor in relics, every weapon in the game is outclassed except the Kama Sedition which shits on every relic bow. Technically, the best weapon in the game is a bow instead of a memesect glaive.

You don't run purple with bounding at all (although some people get a better set with HB than Razor Sharp, but that doesn't change the fact that you let it drop to white and it stays there.) You run it because it has such massive white so it basically never needs to be sharpened. Anubis needs to be sharpened multiple times per hunt.
Also there are no monsters in the game that blast is so bad against you'd rather run trash like Anubis. The only thing that glaive is good for is a tail run.

I'd write out some calcs to prove you wrong on the bow shit, but just plug these into http://wizeweb.net/mh4gcalc/ if you care enough. Kama with C+2, Ruthlessness, Load Up, Normal Up, charm+talon, attack hone, food attack, Temper, Power Coating, Critical Distance.
Then put in a relic with max raw and Rapid5 on level 3 (no load up required here) and some element. Attack honing doesn't apply.
Results for hitting Shaggy's head with a bow that has 310 dragon (very low element value) against Kama:
Kama: 250 damage
Relic: 265 damage
Now add the fact that you can add more damage since you don't need load up and the comparison becomes even more obvious.

And this isn't even going into the fact that for many things spread is a plain better shot type. It does more damage, gains more of a boost from its shot up skill, and has one extra arrow for more element.

Every MonHun I change weapons to make the game have a newer feeling and try to improve myself. This time I'm looking at the greatsword with MHX. Been fucking around with it in the demo for the past week and I think I can make a proper GS set on 4U with what I had before I quit playing last year around Xmas time. But I'm wondering, how hard is the early game without stuff like crit draw, focus, etc? When I last played I was doing stuff like bows, db, gl, cb, ig and the occasional lbg.

Without Focus you don't have as many openings for stronger charges, and no Critical Draw means 25% less damage on your main attack. If you prefer using the strong charges more, then the latter is obviously less useful than the former. You could use Aerial early in the game to make up for a lack of Focus, I guess.
