How viable would it be to do a playthrough of VII with having only specific characters able to use magic? The other characters would just use what weapons they pick up, grenades, etc while characters like Aeris and maybe Red XIII or Vincent can use magic-based Materia?

This one was a lot easier than the FFX event one. Would have gotten full medals if I refreshed shout sooner since I had 3 damage SBs come out without shout buffs.

I also got lucky enough that I silenced all but two of her holies in phase 2, then a single target one left penelo at like no hp but not dead just before she throw out a curaja. The rest were blocked with seiken shock's blink but Yunalesca was mostly using haymaker and I brought in basch to draw fire and retaliate that shit

Locke was the first to be able to hit that because he was the first 5* Thief with an MC2 that breaks 170 outside of synergy.

The others are, as stated, Rikku, Thancred Yuffie, Zidane.

Vaan's Speed is 167 at 80, so he can only hit 5 in synergy.

Its generally inadvisable to level up characters outside of their main 3 roles until end game because its a huge experience sink. You could probably go through the rest of the content without a SYN if you know what your doing it'll just be harder. I would recommend just picking either Sazh/Vanille and rolling with them as a SYN when you need to for boss bottles. Also, I'm not sure if its possible that but you could trying getting more of those pre battle boosting items but I'm not sure how to get them before they become available in the shop later on.

Is there a reason to not use auto-battle in XIII? I mean, wouldn't AI know better what to use against opponent at the time? As long as it knows enemy resistances it should be faster than human to apply skills that are best for current situation, shouldn't it? Or is it somewhat limited on purpose, like maybe it doesn't use some skills at all or something? I can't see reason to choose abilities myself if almost always I'll end up doing it slower than AI and waste time not executing attacks when ATB is full already, because I'm trying to figure out what to use now. Maybe at certain boss battles it's useful, when you really need to get that one buff/debuff quickly or something like that, but most of the time it's just seem like my role is to choose what enemy to kill first/aim at group so AI choses AoE skills and changing paradigms.

It basically doesn't make a difference, you'll win without too much trouble. The buffs should be done manually. However the system is supposed to do a perfect job otherwise, since rotating let's say Aquastrike and water drives up the chain gauge faster. Nevertheless since they didn't take the long alternating animations into account, manually inputting only one is actually faster and more efficient. So yes, manually playing can make you about 15% (Okay let's say 20%, if you really get into manually coordinating combos with your non-controllable allies.) better in usual instances.

As said, it really doesn't matter. Why even bother? There's also the ATB refresh you should look into by having two identical paradigms.

Since only the XIII series had the battle system, no. It's probably intentional and not a glitch, it's just that your unused paradigm are gathering ATB, while not in use. Having two identical ones just makes staggering faster. Lightning Returns is solely based on this mechanic. It's very likely they were aware of it from the start or at least by the time XIII-2 came along.

For regular dungeons, have her take pot shots at enemies with basic attack. I use the rm that gives 1 sb gauge initially.

For ultimates, her curing and applying protect/shellga usually ends up with me having a second guage ready after 5 turns.

In ultimate+, you can abuse the 1 stamina thing by making her cure and equiping the 2nd rm for the white mage.

If you're feeling crazy, put a rm that boost how much sb gauge you get for using skills. Tidus's 2nd rm comes to mind

Japan had an orbfest running concurrently with the big bridge event (so they get the same clear rewards) and farming orbfest is a lot more convenient than farming the big bridge bosses since it takes a longass time to empty your stamina on those bosses and the average player is not going to install FFRK Inspector to make the farming more bearable. Plus, without orbfest we lose out on tons of exp which would actually be pretty helpful for preparing for Cid's missions.

They introduced lots of ice SBs for the fragment Ifrit fight. One of them was for Squall so they just rolled with it I guess. It's no different from tons of other characters arbitrarily being assigned specific elements: it's just there to give them an identity in the game among other characters with similar skill sets.
