They're well received certainly and I won't pretend they're horrible games, but their price with all DLC jewing and Paradox's horrible business practices (namely pushing massive amounts of DLC with broken features before fixing the last one since the mods fix it all anyway)

As for the best, in my humble opinion Medieval 2 is the undisputed masterpiece of the Total War franchise.
Shogun 2 and Napoopan are comfy as fuck tho.

There was the original Gary Grisby War in the Pacific. That is older.

A newer version was made by a newer team (essentially a rework of the original game) around seven years ago. It continues to be updated by a dedicated fan/dev team with beta patches regularly, a decent mod community, and a small, but very close, dedicated multiplayer community.

So right now in the apocalypse 1836 mod pretty much everyone is wiped out. I changed it so the outbreak doesn't start until I trigger it through the console. How long should I give the world? I'm thinking 1870 or until great wars are discovered.Also hopefully Germany and Italy are united, the US has a decent population size, and the zombies don't overrun everything right away. I'll also be able to save more of the world, placing troops in strategic positions to slow/prevent them from being overrun.

If I formed I'd have to leave the HRE, which means that if I wanted to expand further into Europe I'd have to fight the Emperor and their allies for every inch of clay. The HRE is pretty weak, and I'm close with Aragon and France but a minor war wouldn't be possible. There's also the fact that I have a decent shot at being the Emperor which would basically give me free reign to rampage through Europe.

I tried EU4 first and was thoroughly confused, and also now having an easier time grasping CK2. I think the way to learn is the same, though, just gotta fucking get in there and see what works and what doesn't.

The trade part of the EU4 tutorial especially just made no goddamn sense at all, though. I have no fucking clue what I'm looking at on that map.
