other than being A rank, Emeraldnyan can heal and probably has a stronger heal than Pinkiepoo, the only other charming yokai with heal.
Sapphirenyan has a high spirit stat, meaning it can properly benefit from that spirit bell. Topaznyan probably has the highest defense of all the nyans and makes him a good tank. Don't know about Diananyan or Rubinyan though

Somewhat. 2 has online play for such an occasion and there is a big focus on team building/item wielding before a battle can begin. There's even a ranking system that starts from 0 and goes up to 3000. Though I don't think it will have that overly competitive nature that other games tend to have, due to move/control limitation. I also hear that the JP version is overrun by dominant shogunyan and possible hack teams that do 999 damage
