Anything below 5* is easily obtainable, so don't worry too much.
Rivals are easy to get and are very strong assets, just look out for Team Cost.

Gatekeepers are very useful, even Kumas at the beginning of the game(Littre, Beelzebub, Kuma, Neris, and Mera), never sell them, the only one that you should sell is a 6* Neris.

Basically until rank 60~ anything will work, even a team full of farmables, so don't really feel restricted at the beginning of the game, just put the players you like the most in your team and try to get used to the mechanics.
