High-tech systems have the best inventory, look there. The more population the better.

Resource Extraction site. spawns pirates and space cops that shoot each other. HAZRES in best left until you have a Vulture or better.

In all honesty this might be our last thread. See ya Space Provos in 6 months.

NMS in a little more than a month. How do you think Ftroop will draw players back after they jump ship?
NMS has better implemented trade, and more meaningful exploration. The only things elite has on it is actual multiplayer if you can call it that.
>>
>>146534550
Yeah, if you can call it that. Instancing is damned near non functional and everyone plays in Solo anyways. So hard to find people. It's gonna be interesting.

Thing is, Ftroop seems to have their heads so far up their asses they might not be able to recover is NMS does well.
>>
>>146534550
Either they're going to mark Horizons down to 10 dollars or they simply won't. They are delaying updates for their finished product the same way Star Citizen is delaying updates for its incomplete product.
>>
So Sandro thinks "player colonization makes sense". How hard will Sandro and co fuck up colonization? Let's hear detailed scenarios.
>>
I'm getting connection errors every time I try to jump, what the fuck

>>146536046

Consider the amount of materials/difficulty aquiring said materials/time consumed to just upgrade one single module with an engineer. One. Single. Module.

Now consider the size of a space station. Or less ambitiously, a surface station. They won't have to make any "mistakes"; if they design the colonisation system the same way as the engineers, no one will have access to it anyway because it'll be locked behind literally years of grinding for construction materials.
>>
>>146547917
The assumption is they learned engineers was a mistake from some of their most vocal supporters telling them so and they won't be as retarded with stations.

Then again it is FTroop
>>
>>146548127

So they'll slash requirements in half after a month or two of backlash.

NMS on release will have it's own general I suppose. Then just wait until playerbase stabilizes to see if they can maintain their own general.
>>

Only technically, it's essentially a single player game where you have a 0.00000001% chance to meet another player.

So....

Elite?

I should've added "without becoming autismal groupthink circlejerks", which would have covered aforementioned general nicely.
>>
>>146555068

That one too. Undertale general as well.
>>
>>146554269
In the vaguest sense of the word.

You can blunder across another player.
A group of friends can expend the effort to find each other and play together.
But there are no systems in place to allow players across the galaxy to group up and find each other, or teleport to each other.

It is conceivable that months after launch players have managed to set up hub systems, but even then those hubs will be like drops in an ocean.

I'm actually going to argue that elite at 1.0 and NMS are identical as multiplayer design goes. The only difference that the size of the starting area and the populated area in elite is tiny compared to NMS and supposedly the NMS universe is much larger overall as well.

Anon, the point is that ED is marketed as a finished product. Tell me, what looks worse? Delaying updates for a finished product or delays for an incomplete game? I would say that's why I'm a lot more harsh with ED, because they market it like a complete one and keep fucking it up.

They don't ever learn from their mistakes.

They've been multiplicatively compounding bonus on bonus or RNG on RNG since the alpha tests, resulting in exploits, frustrating difficulty curves or just utterly unacceptable levels of timesink.

It's not even about EVE's gameplay. A lot of people agree EVE is a very time-demanding game and some people stray away simply because of the timesink and content that is gated behind time locks like skill training. After playing both though, EVE gives me more sense of being able to use my time to do something useful, even if that time is very short. In Elite, I basically just fly around or mindlessly collect Engineer mats which, after hours of searching, could turn out to be all for nothing all because of a bad dice roll. I saw a lot of people saying on the forums that Elite "doesnt respect their time" and I didnt quite fully understand what they meant until I thought about it and compared it to other games.
>>
What is the best medium combat ship? FDL? Vulture?
>>
>>146580874

Vulture is small.

And very power-constrained since they didn't buff it like they did the FDL.
>>
>>146580990

Ah, ok. Any other contenders? Python?
>>
>>146582774
FDL is the king. Huge shields, good hardpoints, best speed and maneuverabilty.

FAS is the runner up, it has everything the FDL has except the shields, you have to run it shieldless.

Python and Dropship are both useable, in fact I'm running a railgun dropshit myself at the moment and it's super fun.
>>
>>146565394
First you'll need your player faction to be controlling a system, have a ticket approved by braben, purchase a base design from the cash shop and then you can spend a few billion credits to fund it. Then you'll need to buy and transport a gorillion units of various materials, components and colonists (who are just renamed tourists). This will have to be done in under a certain amount of time or you "abandon construction", and then you'll have to wait for 6 months for it to be built. After this you'll have a station on a planet with 1 small landing pad with no services, but you can buy a station paint job (only 9.99 for each bulding). Now you can start gathering credits and commodities to build additional landing pads and install services so you can actually refuel there. Then you have to keep stocking the station manually untill you reach a certain level that allows trade routes to be added, but watch out for black markets as you cant get rid of them and they cause your supplies to dissapear faster. If you dont keep supply levels in the black the station is abandoned. If all this seems unreasonable its because you're entitled and supposed to have help from other players in your faction, base building isnt ment to be completed by groups of less than 50.

Now you have your own station, so sit back, relax and buy it a faction name paint job for only 5.99. The in game benefits of building a station is your factions name is on it. Just hope a rival faction doesnt take it over or you'll have to start again.

Right on, CMDRs o7

>>146583674

>>

>>
>>146583025
>best speed and maneuverabilty.

FAS is more maneuverable than FDL and has stronger lateral thrusters.

>you have to run it shieldless.

Depends on how long you want to remain in combat. You could put a biweave shield on it as a buffer since it regenerates, but don't invest heavily in shield strength since it's shit overall.
>>
>>146580523

I probably should have been more clear with my sarcasm.

Forum dad defense is broken into a very few select answers when answering to criticism.

>This isn't EVE
>4 pips to systems
>just wait and things will come to you
>you shouldn't grind
>just play the game
>people with money just grief
>he makes youtube/twitch/hitbox revenue because of this game

The dads want the game full of artificial game lengtheners, because they seem to think that is going to keep people buying into the game and supporting continued development. If it wasn't for Sothis runs finally getting me into an Anaconda, I probably would have gone back to apexis daily grinding in WoW, because I get more out of that compared to farming materials that may or may not appear. To the dads we are guilty of liking how other games handle stuff in a relatively consistent manner. We should be forced to enjoy the dad's toy the way they do, even if there is massive potential for the game to exist in a state where the dads are just as happy with the game as rest of us.

Two questions as someone that has heard about this game and is interested in it:

Is the game subscription-based or do I have to pay once to play (And possibly pay for subsequent expansions)?

Is the game (or at least the travelling segments) as god-tier comfy as it looks in the videos I've seen of it?
>>
Patch when?
>>
>>146590229
Single purchase with annual expansions/DLC and cosmetics.

And yeah pretty much, if you like space games give it a shot. Probably don't buy Horizons until you're sure you like it.
>>
>>146590229

You buy the game and you can play for free. In order to do anything Horizons related you need to buy the horizons season pass. Frontier does expansion cycles in "seasons" which are covered by season passes.

You can't buy individual "expansions."

It looks comfy until you have to fly 300,000Ls in real time.

Pay once to play, but with expansions that arent worth buying. If you want to buy it then wait for the last day of the steam sale as the best prices are then.

Flying about and landing at stations is enjoyable at first, but you do it so much its gets old quick. To get between stations you have to supercruise, the only mechanic to that is learning how long you can be alt-tabbed for before overshooting.

AI haven't been able to dock for a while. That is, if you stay in a station long enough they stop functioning properly and the station eventually destroys them as they linger in there doing nothing.

>>
>>146613867

I've suggested a while back that missions should generate small outposts/stations out in nowhere space that you fight around, along with rock formations and interesting layouts. Kind of take the layout of a lot of CQC maps and work it into the mission system so those would pop up for missions to give them some flavor instead of

>hurr interdict
>hurr CZ in the middle of nowhere with nothing around it
>hurr no battles like in the fucking trailer of the game where you battle around stations
>>

>>
>>146614375

Salvaging is pretty shit anyways. Dads think that destroying a ship and scooping the loot is salvaging.

>you will never rip apart the remnants of a Majestic cruiser with a salvage beam for Engineer parts and rare salvage to sell for huge profits
>>
>>146614569
>Rip apart the remnants of a cruiser

Just gotta suggest this to Fdev. Sounds like another great opportunity for more RNG to be incorporated into the game

>Take mission from someone to get specific components from the remnants of a capital ship
>Get there and start blasting it apart looking for said components
>RNG gives you everything but them components

Fdev and the dads would love it.
>>
>>146614850

I could not give a fuck, atleast it would be something else to do that isn't driving a shitty buggy around flat landscapes or hopelessly clubbing traders praying they drop what I need. They could also make it a thing where you can man the salvage turret yourself.

>go up to a ship wreck
>scan it with a module or something
>it gives you lines or connect-the-dots type thing that you need to cut
>have to be very precise to do it correctly without damaging the components
>can man the turret yourself, which leaves you vulnerable
>cut the piece, scoop up the salvage, rinse repeat

Knowing FD they would make the salvage completely not worth the effort, maybe 200cr a ton or something stupid like that, and they'll make it like mining where you just hit the wreck with your beam and shit flies out, just like mining, because making neat gameplay is hard.

the Cobra IV is garbage
>>
>>146634485
The viper 4 is pretty sub par desu.
Same 4 maneuver of the cobra but without upgraded weapons. Like, replacing the two smalls with 2 mediums would make it good, but it has the same 2small/2med of the viper 3.

Especially considering you can fit a slightly less multipurpose Dback scout for more than double the maneuver and a little bit more jump range at about half the price, or an imperial courier with its massive shields, still more maneuver than the viper or cobra, and arguably the same weapons loadout as the viper (3 med vs 2 and 2)

FTroop painted themselves into a corner with the Cobra 3. They can't balance it as it should be compared to the viper 3 because dads would get mad. The Viper 3 was originally the fastest ship in the game at 500m/s boost, but it was nerfed because dads complained they couldn't escape them in their dadbra.

The maneuverability rating in outfitting is arbitrary bullshit. The Clipper out-turns a Viper MkIII despite having a score of 2 vs 6.

There's a bit of a disconnect between what the game allows and what systems are in place to support.

NMS certainly allows multiplayer, it's just built in such a way that it's super unlikely to happen, at least in the infancy of the game before people get super long range jump drives.

Elite is supposed to be focused on multiplayer, except it's not really supported in any way and you're outright punished for trying to do missions or trade in groups.

Biggest size (3 for an eagle) and highest grade (A). You can see jump min/current/max at the bottom of the outfitting screen. When you go to frame shift drives and browse the shop you can see those numbers change when you hover over the different drives available.

Min is you jump range fully weighed down with cargo and fuel. Current is what you can do at your weight right now, and max is what you can do with zero cargo and just barely enough fuel to make the jump.

Also, fuel scoop if you don't want to get stranded. (dotted lines on the map start where your fuel runs out)

How much money do you have? Back when I started the game and I was space-poor and wanted to relocate to another part of the bubble, I would sell my ship and purchase a long-jumper hauler, and then re-buy my combat ship at my new destination. With an A class FSD and D rated everything else, you can reach ~30 LY jump ranges.

I think you only need a few hundred thousand credits for a basic long jumper hauler. A bit over a mil if you splurge on quality of life stuff like the max size fuel scoop it can carry and an A rated power plant so that you run cool near stars while scooping.

>>146643627
>the uh, line on my map is a lot straighter

The worst thing about having a short jump range is how your course snakes all over the place and makes the route even longer than the difference between a longer jump range would suggest.

>even if I have to turn off a couple things to stop my ship taking a nap

If you're not actively scooping cargo canisters you can just shut off the cargo hatch, or at least set it to a lower (higher number) power priority so it shuts down when you deploy hardpoints. The hatch takes a lot of power on small ships.
>>
>>146643940

They took away their gatling railguns and dumbed them back down to sub-Red-Baron levels.
>>
>>146643940
Ok. You're nearing the point where you can purchase a long jump in a hauler when you feel like flying to the other side of the bubble to follow the community goals.

It's good to have insurance money because we will make fun of you if you die without insurance.

When traveling, make sure that you have a fuel scoop so that you don't get stranded. I generally put at least a small scoop on anything, but combat ships operating at short ranges or trade ships traversing a known route don't need them.

Another thing to remember: KGB-FOAM. Those are the classes of stars that you can scoop fuel from. If your fuel tank starts getting low, open your star map and make a detour to a KGB-FOAM star that is more or less along your route.
>>
my journey begins, warping right up next to stars is as disconcerting as ever.

>>146644763
There's generally not much to fear unless you're jumping towards a neutron star.

That or you get VISIONED into a closely orbiting binary star like >>146592139 . I've heard reports that if the VISION is extra bright, that you can exit inside of the secondary star and just instantly die. That's never happened to me, but I used to have a trade route that looked like it was about to kill me every dozen runs or so.

The feds are close to winning that war so if you're in it for the credits you'll want to fight on their side and turn in combat bonds at Knights Port.

Even just making it out of the bottom 1% of contributors on the fed side means you'll make over a million credits.
>>
>>146646898
Turn in a mil in bounties and it puts you in the top 25% too.

But every CG just highlights the problem. They're perpetually one sided because the instant one side eeks ahead everyone jumps ship to that side to rack up the biggest reward.

What, you aren't enjoying the majestic looks and sounds of your iCourier?!

I sold my A-Vulture the moment I got Imperial rank for it, because soon after the Engineers update, I got griefed by FDev.

They dropped FAS and later Gunship (over ~10000 and 400 spacebux bounties respectively) both of which were a little above my "competent" rank (masters?), which as I think, never posed a trouble before I went on a months-long break from the game.

And both fights were completely frustrating: can't outmanoeuvre them, my bi-weave shields are gone barely in a couple of passes—and, worse, immediately followed by: "thrusters offline", "module malfunction". Military grade composite bulkheads? Hull reinforcement package in every field? Nope, they just gave me more time to get upset about the whole affair.

But iCourier was like a balm on my wounds. Beautiful, fast... and with cheap insurance. Since the system that was promised to be good for Imperial rank grind entered boom state which replaced "fuck up those neutral bases" with a multitude of courier missions, the ship served its purpose.

I'm pretty sure that Braben isn't the cancer killing Elite right now. He admitted to being wrong on multiple occassions.

Meanwhile, Sandro Sammarco gives us shit like powerplay and rngneers, and generally remains a huge cunt that doesn't even play the game he designs. If they fired him I'm sure the quality of the game would rise within two updates at most (or they would stop adding retarded shit, at least).

>>146696539

Braben got lucky and made a one-hit-wonder back in 1984, and now he's trying to do it again but he and everyone else on the leadership of Ftroop is stuck in 1984 and none of them know how to introduce gameplay beyond what passed off back then because there wasn't much you could do with computers back then. Ian Bell is probably off somewhere crying and waiting for Ftroop to shelve Elite so he can take the source code and make it better.

Discover scanners increase the range at which you find planets, always get the advanced as it will show you everyting in a system.
The range you can use the planetary scanner to do a detailed surface scan depends on the mass of the target. Higher mass = can scan from further away. Cant increase the range unfortunatly, but check the picture of planets in the system map to see if theyre worth scanning.

FDL or Python?

>>
>>146709561
FDL is for combat only
Python combat/trading

Both of those suck at exploring, get ASP explorer for that.
>>
>>146708225

A hard core of older men (middle age and above) who played the original Elite, and think that ED should be a copy of the original with better graphics.

They mercilessly suck FDs cock regardless of stupid decisions made, and every critical post is downvoted and jumped on. Very few of them manage to play more than a few hours a week, so they never realise and experience the many ways that this game can be improved. Those who do are usually autistic and close minded enough to actually like the insane grind.
>>
>>146708095
Whenever i go exploring i start out scanning everything undiscovered, but eventually shift to just undiscovered stuff that nets good cash. If its a completely new system i'll normally get it all but when theres a planet worth bugger all 100,000ls from me its hard to want to scan it. Its cool knowing theres a bunch of systems with my name on but unless someone else happens to fly to the same system nobody will see it.

I dont trust FD or the dads to be able to properly intrepret the data, so they see someone has a sidey and a viper and tally them both, despite 10x as much time being spent in the viper.

I also wouldnt be suprised if they went on how many ships have been sold, and count re-buys as a part of it so newbie deaths count towards the totals. And dont forget the dads buy multiple cobras on multiple accounts

Sounds about right. Though, I steered into the ring by accident. Maybe getting interdicted bugs out stuff like proximity? I kinda want to try getting interdicted and then ramming the nearest planet to see what happens. If it's consistent I'll just bounce off it like I did with the ring.

Ive been interdicted into planets a couple of times, it just does the emergency drop. Didnt bring the interdicter with me though.

I have been interdicted and placed right in front of the docking slot, providing as easy escape. As time goes on the devs are going to need to overhaul mechanics, or get rid of them entirely because this is like gambling with rigged dice.

How does powerplay/minor factions work?

I'm at the point of post-A-class Vulture/ASPe vacuum. I don't below iClipper rank and still a bit sore after iCourier grind. But on my journey through time and space I stumbled upon a system I fell in love with: Nyan. It's in Imperial space too, even though not under control of my beloved Princess Anime.

So, I was curious: is it possible to wrestle the control over? Is it possible to become a part of an existing minor faction? Can we, as a formidable force of the Internet create our own player faction?

The last one is a general question, I don't insist on Nyan nor I feel capable of organising a smallest thing. I seek a change, a goal higher than driving about for more spacebux or slaving my ass off for engineers.

Too much editing. "I'm below iClipper rank and I don't have enough spacebux to outfit a medium/large ship".

You know, that abyss after vulture where you either fucc off to the galactic core in despair? I don't want to do that yet—but I might if the thread keeps up strictly about spacedads and VISION. >>146744868
the problem with minor factions is that it takes a fuck ton of work to get anywhere and a small wing of players that have a couple hours to blow can fuck it all up. see mercs of mikunn thread in the gulag - ~50-100 players who have been working with tireless autism on one minor faction with the support of Fdev since gamma. they've expanded to all of 5 systems.

minor factions are retarded anyways - you can't actually do anything, it's just fdev inserting your normal NPC minor with a custom name and description. literally 100% pointless

may as well join adle's armadad and kill yourself

17 Draconis system state is the issue, it hasn't been nerfed.

When I was last on, both of the federation factions were in civil war, which means that for a while the missions aren't going to be as common.
>>
>>146749890

In large ships like that, I can't think of any reason to not put cameras around it to facilitate viewing things around you.

Hell, just flying the Anaconda, it begs for a bottom camera on a second monitor, atleast that comes online only for docking and undocking so you can see if you're clearing the slot. Will probably never happen though because no one flies big ships, right. Everyone is still on Asps or smaller, right???
>>
So when are they going to abandon the carebear attitude to game design, throw in some player owned space and let players make their own groups and claim systems for themselves?

Surely between all the negativity on steam and the forums they are going to wake up to the fact that 90s game design is not relevant in the 2000s.
>>
>>146754402
What utility would you recommend?
>>
>>146757854

Sandro apparently said that player owned stations "makes sense" and that he'd be willing to try it later.

I can't get myself excited for it though, I just can't. You KNOW it's going to be fucking shit if they release something like this. All that will happen is that you can get materials and then "build" a station, which gets added to a list and then FD has to manually add it in at the next server downtime. And that's it. You just get a station out in wherever bumfuckegypt system you want. You'll probably need multiple Anaconda trips just to carry all of the materials it will probably require, so have fun trying to do it anywhere outside the bubble. And even then, there won't be any conflicts or player wars where you can destroy space stations because how the fuck are they going to balance that when you have faggots in solo and private groups? It'll literally just be another station out in wherever that a player requested that Ftroop add in.

>>146757842
desu after all those exploits a vast majority of the playerbase can afford at least a c-fitted combat conda, and you can see a lot of big ships in the game during CGs, just look at Daramo, there were a lot of condas and corvettes flying around, some cutters, too.

To be completely honest, it does hold some weight. The game becomes a little more enjoyable if you forget about credits/ranks and just focus on something, like trying to be a pirate, overthrow a minor faction, or help a minor faction rise to power, or even go explore or something like that. The problem is that it's hard to shake off the soul crushing feeling that it will take ages for you to get enough money to upgrade your ship's modules, let alone buy a better ship.
>>
>>146764164
I used to do this between HIP 10716 and Wu Guinagi. I was promised a lot of fucking up independent bases—but when I got there, it turned out the system suffered an economic boom: lots of courier missions plus a bit of cargo because it pays better. HIP has 1 orbital platform and a spaceport on the planet it orbits and Wu has 2 stations and 1 platform (one of which is relatively far away, I ignored it)

>>
>>146766601
Agreed. I did like a solid 300 hours of grinding and now I'm playing the game trying to enjoy myself and frankly I am. It's great trying to fit into a niche role of a pirate or a privateer helping some faction. Mostly the enjoyment comes out of the stories I make in my head and the game is just a medium for inspiration but whatever. I'm having fun I don't care!!!

But like you say, you can't really progress in the game like this.
>>
>>146748943
Another idea for a system is imperial Latuba for how it sounds and perhaps for "Soukup City" station.

But unfortunately it has neckbearded federal counterpart Lelatuba, and this ruins everything.
>>
>>146767828

This is the biggest problem that the game has. There is very little feeling of progression if you play the game like this without selling your soul to Robigo/Sothis or, god forbid, bulk trading.
>>
>>146768404

>>146767828
I just did Sothis/Robigo until I had 1.5 bil, now I just do whatever seems fun in any ship I want, and the game became much more enjoyable. I spent the last few days ganking players in Daramo, while flying an Orca, just to make it more insulting.

That's literally all you can do though. The game gives you so little to work with that you resort to making shit up, but this only works for so long. There's no big story in the game besides MUH ALIUMS, no way to immerse yourself in the world without having to scour multiple forum threads of 1000+ replies for what is happening in the universe of Elite. Dads can do this easily because a lot of them have such low standards for video games that literally going into SC and seeing all the little dots flying by puts them at awe. If you've played other games of this caliber, you know that this is par for the course and the way Elite delivers it's universe apart from the sound and visuals is horribly substandard. Players should use their imagination when playing any game, sure, but when I'm relying on my shitty headcannon and constantly writing off the flaws of this game with any excuse I can think up, then I'm just not going to bother.

I started feeling a lot better and lost my desperation after I realized that even if FD implemented all of the things on that list, it'd be fucking terrible and not be worth the trouble. It's best to just not bother with Elite in it's current state unless there's a huge restructuring of how FD develops this game.

I also picked up EVE and am loving it, so that has helped too.

When it delivers in some degree what it listed on its kickstarter to the point that it justifies the huge amount of money thrown at it
it will probably be 'released' at some point with nowhere near what it promised if at all since they have a standard prealpha/early access terms of service which states they aren't obligated to deliver on their grand promises
>>
>>146796625
So when I backed it on their site the plan was pretty much just squadron 42 with a freelancer style multiplayer. Guess that means it will be developed for me before it is for the kickstarter cucks

Just a reminder that they promised the same thing as Elite on the kickstarter before going for the hypetrain/feature creep. Later they started delaying stuff. No, it's okay, problems happen. But I'm worried that when the game is complete, it will be grossly irrelevant with its numerous supporters fed up with waiting, E:D, NMS and numerous smaller space "sims". Some other genre would resurge and capture everyone's attention perhaps.

Now, back to Elite, we have to capture the galaxy in the name of /b/ undivided.

Here, it's got my age behind it.

I'm looking to settle down and make a system my home, but how do I decide? I just want a bunch of options. RES to farm, nearby systems with lots of ships in case I want to change shit up, and potential planets to land on for missions. I'm at Venegana right now. Anything good nearby, or should I just go straight to eddb?

Nu Tauri is good. RES, Hazres, ringed planets, landable planets, high tech, good population and at least one station (Parmitano Terminal, 400ls) with a good selection of ships and outfitting. It's in spess chinaman's territory as well, so you get a permanent discount even without pledging.

I just bought this game on Steam, currently loving it. I'm currently avoiding combat and mining asteroids/trading to make up some money to get myself a Cobra, which seems like a nice all-rounder ship, i'm also thinking of siding with the Feds because i really want to visit the Sol System and i read you can't go there without a permit.

What would you guys recommend me to do?
>>
>>146808413
escape before it's too late

also Sol's kinda disappointing, it's like an overdeveloped tourist trap
>>
>>146808413
just enjoy it for now, mining and trading up to a dadbra is a decent plan

come back here and ask about sothis once the reality of the vision hits you
>>
>>146808413

Note; you don't have to "side" with the feds at all. 99% of the time, getting fed rank won't be relevant to your standing with the Empire. You don't "side" with a major faction (Empire, Alliance, Federation), but you can side with a powerplay figure, who represents either faction or independents/pirates. They may require you to do things that might upset other factions/power play figures.

Also your plan seems good. Sol is neat but kinda overrated.
>>
>>146808413

There are a couple of reasons to visit that system.

The city on Mercury is one of the biggest planetary cities in the game if you have horizons.

To see one of the more wealthy starports.

Thx for the responses senpais, very informative.

Also, could you guys redpill me on the "vision", how fucked is this game's future?
>>
>>146811347

The game has no future. The very basic mechanics of the game are so fucked and broken that you can't stack much on top of it. Stick around and lurk some and you'll figure out what I mean. A good example is Powerplay. It might seem neat at first but it's nothing but pointless grinding, and you'll soon find out that barely anyone takes part in it other than to exploit bugs in it because it is so horribly broken and the devs have even admitted that they have abandoned it because they simply have no time to fix it.

Enjoy the game for now, and be glad you got it on sale, it's a good price for the game. You'll get to a point soon though where you'll think "is this really all there is to it?"
>>
>>146811347
The developers keep adding new features to the game that no one asked for, and they implement them like shit. They should be focusing on improving the core gameplay and improving the multiplayer experience. The game needs more meaningful activities, but instead they just keep adding grindy, unfun, buggy as shit new things. They should be focusing on the sand box aspect, like making it so doing stuff for factions actually feels impactful, or giving players tools to organize themselves and create a lasting impact on the game world, but instead we get bullshit like Powerplay and the Engineers, which are still just empty, grindy shells of a game.
>>
>>146811347

The VISION is really something that you need to lurk the thread and follow the game development to truly grasp. The devs have said that they have a "10 year plan" for Elite, where they'll release content and add ons to enhance the game experience. In case you didn't know, this game is arguably a beta that was released and marketed as a full product. It was terrible when it first came out, and Frontier is adamant about following their VISION of this game, no matter if it pisses people off or not.

See: the absolute shitfests that are Powerplay and Engineers.

the cobra is fine for a starter ship, don't fall for the memes. just don't make the mistake many players (dads mostly) thinking that it's the "end-all" of ships, and that the entire game balance revolves around it. it's good for new players and can fulfill a variety of early game roles.

>>
>>146818956

They are very similar, but the Viper is more combat oriented. The Cobra is better for multirole because it has better internal compartments, so it's more flexible. It's also slightly faster and more manouverable.

Fully upgraded the Cobra edges it out in both speed, jump range, cargo and range. It's also 100k credits cheaper, which is a lot if you're a dad.
>>
>>146818956

Cobra has:
3 class 4 internals.
Higher boost speed on 4A thrusters.
Higher Jump range on 4A FSD.
No class 1 internals.

Cobra 3 is a better value after outfitting than the viper.

The cobra is pretty much the best by design for its price bracket so that the dads don't need to think too hard about which ship to fly.

For non-combat purposes it has better speed and jump range than the viper. The viper has some advantages in combat, but the Cobra has a huge advantage in speed. If shit starts going poorly for a cobra, it can just hit the afterburner and boost away.

The viper used to be faster than the cobra back in beta. This was "fixed" so that dads could escape from mean griefers and non-consensual PvP (I wish that I was making that term up).

Guys, currently I am in the process of
fitting my Viper mk III for lightweight build with enhanced performance thrusters.

Im thinking of 4 x lightweight weapon mounts
and

--> Biveave shields shield soak
OR
--> lightweight hull reinforcement package, with silent running and hull tanking.

Ill probably get to level 3 or for 4 mods at max, im not autistic enough to go further.

My question is: will I fit this within the optinal mass? I cannot test it on paper in coriolis and ED:Shipyard and I dont know is it worth grinding. has anyone here tried it?
>>

You talk like Starbound/Rust is a good mix, I'm so done with the survival wood chopping gameplay. I'm hoping there's interesting things to do in Space playing NMS. And about the grind, I bet my ass that NMS will be just as grindy as ED, which is not a problem for this kind of game IMO.

Hope it can be stations or planetary bases

Expensive to start, but can automatically generate income through npcs delivering all those useless trade commodities

Can align with factions

The ability to create missions from escorting a large number of ships with valuable cargo to harassing other stations/transports to defeat competition

You determine how much you want to pay people for completing the missions.

Planetary mining with NPCs

Maybe even expand into controlling the system, colonization, terraforming etc.

It only makes sense that the traders endgame should be managing a station or base themselves

So much potential, so much disappointment..

Did you miss the entire point of the post? The point was that if you dismiss credits as the point of the game and don't do shit like Sothis/Robigo or bulk trading, the whole game becomes tediously slow because gaining credits through normal missions is horribly slow most of the time and bounties take more time to cash in with the improved AI.
>>

Of course I know that, but Frontier sure as hell won't change it. Best thing you can do is bite the bullet and grind the money through the 2 systems to get where you want to be to enjoy the larger ships and just forget about earning credits ever again.

Its either that or keep reminiscing about how you will never be able to afford the expensive modules or ships

My ship is a mostly upgraded Vulture and I have only 40k credits left.

What should I do for some quick cash or how can i find the big system battles like that for bounties?
>>
>>146878147
Don't fly without rebuy.

Since you don't really have a choice, do high-res, and just leech kills off of cops. Wait 'til you get enough cash for rebuy, then buy a cheap ship for killing shit when you don't have Vulture rebuy, like a Viper III or a DBS. Then shoot shit until you can afford an ASP-E for Robigo. Then grind 'til you get a Tradeaconda, then grind until you can't stand it anymore.

What's the best way to get FSD mods from engineers, just got back into the game after quite the hiatus (Yes I got Horizons).

Also, is it normal that NPC pirates are now absolutely crazy deadly? As in they can nix your shield in a few seconds.
>>
>>146885906

Half of the powerplay is an issue with the code being absolute garbage. The other half is relying on the manual updates of the background sim for powerplay, among other things that need manual server updates.

On the manual end you have people that just "forget" to update shit, which can either be fixed by automation, or by replacing the people who forget to change some variables.
>>
>>146886923

>What's the best way to get FSD mods from engineers

Grind like a 35 year old single black mother of four in a Compton night club.

>>146888376

>a rank 4 shield gen
>remotely sufficient

Pick one.
>>
>>146890242
Wow, where to even begin?

I guess the most obvious thing would be transitioning it to a proper MMO experience.

>Move to a proper dedicated server architecture, no more crappy P2P instancing
>Eliminate solo play and private groups entirely
>Give players in-game tools to form the equivalent to a guild
>Give guilds a bank that players can donate money, modules, and ships to
>Let guilds use their resources to build stations and planetary bases
>Let guilds take over existing stations and, eventually, systems using the already present faction influence system
>Give groups with world assets like these the ability to regulate the markets, system traffic, security, laws, and post missions to the board
>Create the possibility for other groups to invade and defend systems and stations
>If a player groups fucks with another one enough, it triggers an in-game war
>This war generates conflict zones between both factions, allowing them to duke it out over who gets to control the system/station in question
>Combat isn't the only way to contribute to the war effort, traders can improve the quality/quantity of NPCs in the conflict zones by shipping war-themed goods to the station

General world stuff
>System security level is a front-and-center piece of information, probably color-coded to get the player's attention
>High security = outlaws are basically non-existant, and police forces respond near-instantly and with great force
>Medium security = the balanced one, outlaws are present, but police are still pretty quick and strong
>Low security = outlaws are more common than police, and police that exist are generally weak and slow to respond to criminal activity
>Anarchy = outlaws are everywhere, no police at all
>Bounties for destroying innocent ships and players are based on the insurance cost of the ship being destroyed

to be continued
>>
>Server Architechture
This would make it pay2p, yikes.
>>
>>146890242
Open only
Rebalance ships so dadships aren't faster than interceptors
Adjust the ship cost curve and by extension insurance costs.
Adjust module cost curve in line with ship costs
Add in game tools for trading, equipment, and ship searches
Improve AI so there's a distict difference between a rookie and an elite
Add AI wingmen
Add a fast travel taxi service or a shuttle class ship purchasable at every station, no hard points but a big jump range and a large fuel tank
Increase fsd acceleration and deceleration
Add an fsd boost mechanic for extreme in system distances
Fix pirate interdictions so they don't go after you for hauling a couple worthless engineer mats.

>>146892124
>NPC bounty hunters increase in quality and frequency as your bounty increases
>Players with high bounties will also generate pvp missions in stations
>Combat logging removed, you cannot log out while in combat

Fixing Powerplay
>delete Powerplay, if player factions are allowed to work with the game, you don't need it
>Instead, player factions can pledge themselves to one of the three superpowers, or remain independent

Fixing Engineers
>You can either grind for mats like you do now, or you can just pay them a lot of money. The game is sorely lacking credit-sinks
>No more RNG. You get what you pay or play for.

Fixing CQC
>Make it F2P, and give rewards for it that are actually relevant in the main game, giving people a reason to buy the main game if they like CQC
>Add more game modes, add more maps, add a competitive ranking system

That's good enough for now, I'll come back later with more ideas.
