Lanius also mentions that outside of the Hangdog tribe, which the Legion conquered and absorbed, there were basically no other human groups in that area, which made them unable to replenish their slave armies, and made taking the area difficult.

All the useful ones are low ranking, <=6, most of em are <=4, high level ones are almost all gimmick trash except a few overpowered outliers like Solar Powered
Because you have to take a minimum amount of SPECIAL to get any particular perkskill, you're more likely to just take more from that branch instead of having the freedom to pick whatever skills you want

Why the fuck aren't there mods to make fallout 4 into a fallout game yet? I would figure that the first fucking wave of mods after the Creation Kit would remove the voiced protagonist and replace it with a system just like every other fallout and TES game. Is the CK so neutered that this cant be done?

I just want to roleplay. Bethesda wants me to be mother Nora or father Nate, while I want to dream up any number of strange and brilliant characters with their own backstories.

Does anyone else use perk every level mod in conjunction with Sawyer's Mod for the simple reason that 17 perks is too few if you're trying to do a "non-optimal" or "fun" build?

I mean, I have this mod, "more perks" installed, so I sort of enjoy taking a bunch of crappy do-nothing-for-the-sake-of-fun-or-character-flavor-perks, and with just 17 everything that isn't geared towards improving the character's survivability (considering the other mods I have that make combat much deadlier) it feels like a wasted slot if I'm not picking something build-oriented.

Also, I'll admit that Beth spoiled me a little bit by rewarding me with a perk every level in 3 and 4.

My bottles are for dirty water to make noodle soup. My pure water bottling plant produces something like 800 pure water bottles a day.

That said, I wonder where the water purifiers get empty bottles for the pure water, why they don't use large storage tanks for large quantities of water (0.5lb bottle water = 227ml of water). If I use a mod that gives me an empty bottle after I drink pure water it feels like cheating since I'm getting a "free" bottle.

This is wrong. Workshop mods so far have been packs of near thousands of new parts to build with. While interactive settlement objects have been few and far between in modding, it won't take too long for modded parts to well and truly overtake Beths.

We had elevators before Beth made them, even if Beth's functioned a little better. This just proves that it's better to just let the community handle this one, because it requires far less effort than fully voiced quest DLC that Beth SHOULD be making instead of this low effort crap

I wish the game was more detailed when it came to liquids. Like the ability to build large containers for liquids in the settlement, like a 200 unit water/dirty water/radaway/whiskey/whatever storage tank. And if you wanted to actually carry it you'd fill up a bottle. As it is there's a weird disconnect where the player needs steel for making a steel can of oil, even though it's unlikely the player will want to carry that oil around to a new settlement.

Yeah, they've got relatively high health and pop stealth boys when they engage which can make them irritating to fight but they're still just equipped with shitty Institute lazors and don't have much armour. I stockpiled a shit load of heavy weapons, brought all my grenades, pumped myself up with med-x, psycho etc etc before encountering the Courser. Didn't need any of that. Two or three well placed frag grenades are about all it takes to kill it.

Compared to their description in terminals, NPCs talking about them and the dialogue and pretty cool quest you do before first meeting one, what is essentially just a slightly tougher raider with a stealth boy is underwhelming. For reference, in a fight between a Courser and a Brotherhood Knight in PA with a laser rifle, the Knight always wins, yet Coursers are supposed to be one-man armies who should wipe the floor with entire Brotherhood squads according to the lore.

Trainwiz mentioned doing a mod to make it into a proper boss fight ages back, but I dunno if he's still planning on doing it.

You're not really able to make any particularly destructive choices during the base game, worse you can manage is being a dick to other people.

What ending would a raider character go with? Minutemen? Nope, too constructive for no reward. Railroad? As if. Brotherhood? Duty, discipline and honour are hardly raider qualities.

That just leaves the Institute I guess, you could spin it as you're some psychotic replacement for Cornflakes....except they make you the fucking Director, so that's that out as well.

Meeting X6-88 is broken as fuck in every playthrough I've done because Coursers are so embarrassingly weak relative to other elites.

He's positioned right under a Brotherhood vertibird flightpath, so if you haven't been there before his quest, the BoS will end up fighting him.

Watching him get repeatedly knocked down by a badly damaged PA Knight and a fucking Scribe after they allah ackbar'd their vertibird into the fucking ground is just pathetic. I had to console them dead once because after downing him twelve times, they detected the raiders X6 was supposed to be clearing out and started to wipe them out and I was worried it'd break the quest.

Yeah, Coursers should have been blindingly fast. I would have loved if they had a 'pick you up and throw you' attack like deathclaws have, just to underline that they're superior.

I remember Trainwiz mentioning that it might be possible to make them dodge out of the way when you aim your gun at them, and have them dodge slower projectiles like missiles in mid-flight.

Just giving them plasma weapons like the one in Fallout 3 had would have been a start, or the cool bio-weapon needle gun.

If you'd like building settlements for the sake of it you would ask that question but it seem you don't particularly enjoy that part of the game so, as someone who doesn't like it either, i can only recommend you one course of action: Safehouses. Plain and simple. Start a survival game, tweak it a bit with a couple mods and use every settlement location to build safehouses(weapons, ammo, armor, supplies) for you and only you. I'm not sure if I'd say "massive" disappointment. I think they really improve lots of little stuff and the game is a lot more playable than 3 and NV (at a base level).

But yes, it's definitely a poor followup overall and I won't be buying any of their games near launch from now on, I'll wait and see how many RPG elements they strip out first.

Dissapointment? In places. Massive? Not really, the world is nice, there are lots of locations (sadly 99% dungeon full of XYZ enemy), and both stability and gameplay are much improved. But they badly need to make it more like an RPG with meaningful skills/perks/special or whatever. And the weapons should be more like FPS weapons if they're going the route of FPS gameplay. Guns don't work that way, and making the guns more realistic would make the game more fun. Replacing the current ever-growing hit point system that even tabletop RPGs have thrown out with a different health system would also help; I feel Bethesda has taken a "dungeons and dragons" approach that has been outdated for literally decades. They tried the perk system to fix it but ignored the main issue, which is the HP system. The settlements were a very good way to extend the game but came off as not fully integrated into the roleplay.

Most importantly, the game engine needs to be taken out back and shot. It shouldn't struggle to maintain 30 fps.

It's a 7 out of 10. My concern is that Bethesda doesn't understand how and why it is flawed. I will probably wait before buying another Bethesda game, if they make it suck I don't want to deal with it.

My main gripe was with the plot/writing (again) and the dialogue system.

Voice protag was also a mistake imo, although entertaining at times, it limits replay value and must have eaten up a shit load of disk space/dev time that could have been given to NPCs instead.

Actual gameplay, gunplay was a vast, vast improvement. World design was really good and it had interesting and reasonably varied dungeons that were an improvement on Skyrim's.

Companions were a step up from Fallout 3 and Skyrim too, and I like that they had multiple options for the main quest.

That said, most of the factions, with the exception of the Brotherhood, were a bit disappointing, but that's linked to the writing gripe.

Basically if they're hired better writers, used an actual design doc rather than the fan wikis to keep their lore consistent and ditched the voiced PC in favour of more NPC dialogue (and got rid of the shitty 'GLASS HIM' dialogue wheel) it'd have been vastly better. In my opinion.

Of course. Navmeshing is such a pain: I just spent like 4 hours re-doing the navmesh from the Shipwreck Isle mod so my settlement mod there would be usable. You can try an auto navmesh if you want, but from experience they leave a lot to be desired.

I had them snapped together with the elevator on top, was playing with all the pieces to get the little bridge to the top of the screen to work, then I moved the concrete at the bottom so I could get a staircase to snap to the elevator and it did the "you had this piece snapped a second ago but now that you've moved it it will refuse to snap in the same spot again" so I had to spend another 2 minutes getting the concrete floor underneath and I couldn't get the second piece to snap with it

The problem is that is conforms to the set sizes from the new building sets, which are a bit larger, rather than from the previous wood/metal/concrete/something I don't remember atm ones we had before.
The previous sets were fairly constrictive though, so this might not be such a bad thing in the end. Plus we can always just clip stairs through the ground to make the height difference at the floors.
NPCs not using them rather severely limits their utility though.

Sorry for the dumb question friends, but it's been a while since I've played FO4 so I'm completely out of the loop. My HDD crashed and I've got nothing else to play so I figured I'd do another playthrough.

apart from the shoulder guards sloping down a little too much, the whole thing looks too bulky.
the T-51 was meant to be agiler than the 45, as mentioned on the terminal in the fort where they tested the fat man.
The new version also has to massive air tanks on the back, which goes against another improvement the 51 had, which was that all vital systems and parts were encased in the ceramic/metal alloyed armour.
I know fallout 4 takes a huge shit on the lore all throughout the game and that this is small fries compared to everything else, but its something that bugs me.

Depends on the fuel inside. Deuterium and Tritium have half-life of like 13 years iirc.

But you also have to consider the containment systems, hydraulic systems etc have definitely not been taken care of or maintained properly.

I read a book called Robopocalypse where the Not!Skynet rogue AI manufactured these spider-like robots that sprinted at human soldiers, subdued them, then burrowed into their flesh along their spine and limps, basically hijacking them and using them like a puppet to attack their fellow soldiers.

Like, it's not difficult, just tedious. I'm sure you can figure it out.

Just use 3ds max to extract nif into OBJ, send that into blender 2.59 or use an earlier 3ds NIF plugin and flip UVs, export it into a fallout nif and copy the trishape into a vanilla envelope and replace the material files and sanitize the arrays and recalculate tangent spaces and realign the children slots after deleting the original helmet shape.

See? It sounds like a handful but is really straightforward.

With the exception of not being able to link your workshop inventory (what the FUCK Bethesda) this conveyor belt stuff is pretty cool

Just put down a basic thing where I put any junk at the start container, it goes down the line, picks anything with lead, plastic or fertilizer, and brings those to a shotgun ammo manufacturer. Anything without those gets put in a different container at the end

I'm currently playing a mod that is 1 headshot = death unless in powerarmor, for both me and the opponent.

I also use NO vats allowed mod, and then Survival mode.

Does the cool elite kids play without crosshair? Sounds ultra realistic.

Companions use ammo as you do, so one fusion core is 300 rounds for the gatling laser. Put those charging barrels on.

settlers have infinite ammo as long as they have one round for the weapon they're using.

It's a series that runs of 50s stereotypes, one of the stereotypes that we regard back in that era is that things were built sturdier than the products we have today, which is true. The Fallout series seems to exaggerate that since there's many things in the games that shouldn't be operational but somehow are.

Or the devs could have zero sense of time and how frequent machines require maintenance to function. They already proved twice that they know jack shit about guns so this is more likely.
