In team fights if one team has a tank and the other doesn't, tank team wins. If one team has two tanks and the other has 1, 2 tanks wins. There's no other role that decides fights like this. You don't strictly need an ADC to win a team fight, nor do you need a healing support, or an artillery mage. What you need is beefy frontliners with cc. That wins teamfights.

How to? I mostly play top and play off roaming and enemy jungle control over hard CSing. With Karth, I get so tunnel-visioned on CSing and can never really push hard enough to roam. When I do make a roam, his ganking seems so weak.

The only roaming you're suppose to be doing is pressing R and maybe a jungle camp or two if you push your lane. Farm farm farm get assists and kills whenever with R and get your items to do damage in teamfights. That's pretty much how you Karthus.

If multiple lanes feed super hard its not something you can just come back from with your jungler every time, because people don't know how to play from behind.
I don't know what roles you main but I wouldn't play something like cass top.
Your pick has to have good carry potential and can snowball so right now from top you'd be looking at like Darius, irelia, jax, j4, Olaf.
You'll always get feeders and sometimes you'll feed, just gotta make do.

i uually run the typical build on shaco,

i do something different from other shacos that ive noticed, and its that i build warrior first, then boots, whatever is fine

after that i get tiamat, zeal, and work on both of them, then i work on a trinity force, its really nice ever since the attack speed buff, for splitting, but its also nice for one shotting the ADCs and mid laners, the last item i would get is either IE or situational

By all means you can play him like any roaming top once you get roa or at least catalyst but he needs all the farm he can get so you have to play like a bitch to start if you want to conserve mana.
He pushes fast but again it's mana intensive so with karthus its just more about knowing when hard shoving to roam will be effective for your own farm and mana.
You can take camps fast and most of the time you'd just be helping with ult.
People do underestimate karthus dps in a 1v1 a lot though.
He's not that different in terms of toplane mechanics really.
