how's this for a way of teaching fighting games to newbies?

introduce them to Ryu, but the only move you teach them is cr.hp, and you jump in on them over and over until they react to it and punish you consistently; if they use any buttons besides cr.hp they'll ultimately get their shit pushed.
after that you teach them, say, st.hk and jump in from further away, but mixing closer jump ins to force them to switch up between the two moves
and gradually introducing them to new moves one step at a time until they react to everything correctly

So I finally got around to watch the revelator story. Holy shit I've never seen so much disconnect between gameplay and story ever. It's like most of the characters you play as have no motivation to fight each other, the ones who fight don't even use their signature abilities (Bedman doesn't use deja-vu, Robo-ky doesn't throw missiles or steam, Venom doesn't use his balls, etc.), some of the characters you play as might as well be non-canon what-ifs (Kum never shows any fighting abilities and the "little girl inside a robot" aspect is never mentioned, Jam is beyond useless, Dizzy fires a single beam and nothing else, Leo only has a short fight against fodder in Sign, Elphelt got a redesign to sit around doing nothing and only fights in her dreams, etc.) where other characters who fight just as much (Gabriel, Robo-Ky, Baiken) are not playable. And worst of all, you never fight against the main villain and final boss (Ariels). It seriously feels like they just decided to make a random anime with GG characters rather than creating a story for a fighting game.
The story itself is also not that great, bunch of talking heads discussing shitty philosophy that is only deep if you're 15 and never watched anime in what is supposed to be a game about fighting. Most fights are over in seconds and then they go back to talking a lot. And That Man is a cat boy that was hiding his face and name all those years for no reason. Even NRS does it better with their stories. Tekken 7, SFV and KoFXIV will have to fuck up a lot to be worse than this.
