Its not run by Molten is enough of a reason. Outside of that its all about preference though (game affecting cash shop items vs. no cash shop items, custom tuned fights vs. no custom tuned fights, 1x rates against RAF/4x rates with votes, RDF...)
Anything will seem "dead" compared to Warmane's servers because they're the biggest out there in terms of population, but in reality ToD's population for example is similar to many retail servers' populations during WOTLK (well, maybe not at US times.)

The bosses aren't post-nerf. The only nerfing is due to 3.3.5a talents.
