Just got my Marauder to level 70 (first character i've ever had reach merciless) and am just starting maps now - and I'm getting absolutely obliterated. It's a coin toss whether a map is relatively easy, or I get one-shotted left and right.

3,000hp, 9000ar, 6,000dps phys sword'n'board cleave build running ash and hatred.

I'd like to use other abilities, but cleave outperforms all of the other sword skills I've seen. I'd like to use a hammer, but I've never been able to find one that doesn't result in a 3000-4000 dps drop, despite it being a "requires level 50" sword and i've been sifting through "requires level 70" stuff for a couple of days now.

So why is my build so shitty? I tried to focus primarily on defense nodes, grabbing up all the +life, +lifesteal, +armor, +shield and +enducharge nodes I could find, but it's not enough. Virtually 100% of the time I'm running around with 90% phys damage reduction and 75% to all eoement resists, but all it takes is one pack of elemental enemies to burst me to smithereens.

Is my build salvageable without rerolling entirely from the beginning? I've already spent all my respec points fiddling with it to try to make it tankier, but nothing seems to be enough.

Even with my 6000 dps, I usually have to squint at a boss' health bar while attacking it 4x per second to see if it's even moving. It can take me 2-3 minutes to DPS a boss from a t2 map down.

I've completed every quest up to solaris temple in merciless, never skipped anything on previous difficulties. I'll complete Merciless once I have a character that can at least run t1-t3 maps with ease - assuming that's even possible without rerolling.

I see people talking about having 180,000dps and 12,000hp, but I don't see how that's even remotely possible without twinking with traded gear or something. This is a found-gear-only build.

don't put off crafting completely. just don't craft with chaos orbs. like i said you can craft a blue using alteration orbs with some great dps for leveling when you're short on currency. also try to avoid weapons that split up your damage. the sword you were using had fire damage and that wasn't scaling with your physical damage nodes and doesn't scale with your best heralds either. avoid that

Is the "DPS" tooltip completely inaccurate in this game? Because I bought one of those Callinellus Malleus hammers the anon suggested and whipped up a quick earthquake build to test it out - the DPS listed is 2000 less than I had with my shitty sword and cleave, but enemies are melting so much faster.
The DPS meter has to just be complete lying garbage, right?

Also, is my link setup for earthquake okay? I only have 4L to work with for now.

Pretty boring league. Not as bad as Perandus, but still. The way some Ascendancies buffed made them much more viable than before. Slayer and Elementalist are basically top tier now. Optimizations were done, but they hardly optimized anything and ever since 2.3 I'm getting random crashes.

Well think about it like this
You shoot out about 4 volleys that cover the whole screen
You can safely run forward into enemy lines because frostbolt chills/freezes/shocks/ignites everything because Elementalist is broken
you can shoot more volleys and repeat
It's "slow" but it's certainly faster than most people think
