Interesting. I haven't seen those before. While LiS was Hannah's first major role, I didn't know she did very much prior to it. The LA thing seems to be for some travel guide. Would be funny if Rachel and Chloe watch it while planning their escape.
It's great how much Max is Hannah. You can just hear the fangirling over stuff and dorky little remarks, very cute.

Exactly. Sometimes her voice kicks right into what made Max so special. I know it's always an a posteriori thing to do with association and stuff, but Max just wouldn't be Max without Hannah.

Ashly and Hannah both brought their experiences into the game which just made it even more human.
Ashly has experienced the loss of a loved one, so she knows how Chloe would feel about her dad and finding out about Rachel.
Hannah went through something similar to Kate, so that's why Max sounds so genuine when trying to help Kate and talk her down.
Half of the character was the writers creating their backstories. The other half came from the VAs giving them life. While there certainly was flaws in LiS, bland/ unrealistic character was not one of them.
I wish we got some insight from the people who played the villains and antagonists.

Her most recent film project just won a vote to get some funding, so it's not going bad.

Technically I have to say Ashly did deserve the awards she's gotten, delivering the most out-standing VA performance in the game. But Hannah deserves one as well for bringing something so unique into the video game world!

Either way, according to herself the role of Max has helped her immensely just on a personal level, and I'm sure it helps her career prospects a great deal too. Winning this vote for example I'm sure also has to do with fans of LiS voting for her project (I know I did).

Some people have said that if Chloe was a boy, that people wouldn't feel sympathy for him.
I think the same would be true if Nathan was a girl. People would just writer her off as insane and probably fetishize it. While I think changing the character's genders wouldn't alter the story that much, it wouldn't work as well.

QTori here, It was an influence from watching DONTNOD's recent Vampyr gameplay videos and reading rowarnred's fanfiction. I gave a lot of credit to them for heavily inspiring me to do it. Their eyes were initially suppose to be red but I like violet ones potrayed in the fic instead.

The only Rowan fics I could stomach were the happy AUs. When I first got into this game I read (I think) their first one where Nathan turns out to be behind everything and is hiding photos of drugged/ killed girls near the lighthouse. That wasn't bad because it was before Episode 4 and any major reveals.
Then I read the one where Max drives down to Arcadia Bay and brings Chloe back to Seattle. The first part was good, but then it started taking the "Max is really fucked up and cannot be happy" route.

How to fix Vampyr:
The MC is actually Mark Jefferson, under a different name, who discovers he's a Vampire and tries to lure young women to feed on. At the end of Vampyr he abandons his doctor persona, to avoid suspicion, and discovers photography. I think in conversation and discussion most reasonable people are able to put their "like" or "dislike" associated with a character or person (especially those based on their gender) aside and be a little more objective. The more intelligent they are, the more honest with themselves and self-reflective they go about it. Simply because they are smart enough to realize everything else would be detrimental to their own gain from and interest in such a conversation or discussion to begin with.

Even here I don't think there's more than a handful of people that blindly disregard because of their personal feelings any "discussability" of a character: Warren, Victoria, Nathan, etc. have positive sides; Chloe, Max, Kate, and so on also negative sides - that much most here can acknowledge.

I personally don't care too terribly much about what people like or not. I care about whether I can have intellectually honest discussion with them regardless of that. (Although I don't understand how that can play such a huge role with fictional characters to begin with: I can't imagine feeling actual love or hate for a character; I like to think my liking or disliking of a character is mostly based on how well or interestingly written - i. e. fictionally valueable they are to me, not on what kind of "human" they would be.)

More even, as opposed to you (I assume), I leave people the right to be hypocritically or otherwise (gender-)biased, because I can only assume that behind that lie core human qualities (and gender dynamics that are fundamentally human too). As long as they are self-aware enough to at least intellectually "get over" that all. I. e. say "Yes, I do find myself disliking/liking this character/person more because they are male/female/ugly/fat/of this or that racial origin/religious believe/... - but I know that is my human nature and subjectivity speaking and doesn't hold validity in itself in discussion".

As for being a princess and doing cute things... Well, you can do that here. We aren't scornful either. Maybe you are.

You are right that Chloe is supposed to be - especially in the beginning - somewhat of an "antagonistic" figure in that she puts Max in situations she is not comfortable in or that are downright dangerous. But not only are these not Chloe actually "abusing" her (as far as I'm concerned that's simply wrong terminology here), it's just them doing stuff together and it actually gets Max out of her comfort zone, her shell, and ultimately she benefits from these experiences.

I see that Chloe's problematic, and not always unproblematic to Max either, but I just don't see "abuse", and rather than behaviouristic "red flags" I see a troubled young person that behaves accordingly and believably. And then throughout there are way more instances of her encouraging, comforting or otherwise being there for Max than anything even faintly "abusive". Chloe takes advantage of Max's powers one time and it was testing them. The instant she realizes it can harm her she stops and later on agrees with Max that they shouldn't rely on them.
Chloe does some messed up things. But she quickly realizes it and makes up for them in whatever way she can. By the end of the week she's done a 180 on how she feels about many things because Max helps her see how things really are, where as before Chloe was just seeing what she wanted to see.

The only thing maybe is jump-scaring Max at the night of Kate's (potential) suicide. She apologizes profusely once Max points her inconsiderateness out to her, and she does explain herself and why she behaves like that. But still, considering what happened that day it's insane to me that you would jump-scare and joke around with your friend. But then the entire episode struggles with tonally keeping up with what happened, and seeing as how they had to balance the possibility both of Max failing to rescue and seeing Kate jump, and actually saving her and connecting with her on a profound level, I can forgive them (and thus their characters) that.

I'd even go as far as saying Chloe is unlucky that David didn't get Police involved. Chloe would initially be pissed off and not want to cooperate, but if Max was there with her she would have been able to convince her. From there they could both tell their story about Nathan in the bathroom and how Nathan drugged Chloe, the Police would look into it and Nathan would probably crack, then they find the Dark Room and Jefferson. David wouldn't want to press any charges and would just be glad Chloe told the truth.
As much as Chloe didn't trust anyone else, I also think it was because she didn't want to appear weak or a victim. Even though she's capable of fighting (If provoked) she thought the gun would make her look more powerful and further the badass persona she created for herself. So in that respect, taking the revolver was foolish because she didn't understand the consequences (Which you listed) it could have had.

Yeah, a lot of things here could have been resolved with simple, reasonable communication that people here (Sean, Nathan, David, Chloe) just, tragically, couldn't manage. We mentioned this in the past - the "perfect storm" leading to well, the tornado. Maybe at that point it was already too late for the Police to change anything about that. Obviously more generally that argument holds up either way: Don't steal guns and if you do, pray that someone does everything to get it away from you; Dealing with a slap on the cheek or the Police is still better than dealing with armed confrontations.

I also think the gun is partly a "persona" piece for her. That's also why that "rebellious" trait was in quotation marks: she thinks herself a real rebel with it - cool, dangerous, not helpless. Indeed foolishly forgetting that People Die like that.

I never understood the American gun fascination anways. I get hunting. I like fishing. I even get the craft and aesthetic. But come on, guns are designed exclusively to hurt and kill people. Owning them, you must acknowledge and be willing to do that. So why celebrate them so much? There's corporate/communal/political influences or even pressures in some places, but in the end it's still a choice. An obvious one for me, from an outsider's perspective.

Like Max, I don't like guns.

I like guns and other weapons, they fascinate me and I believe it's one of the things that makes the US so different from other nations. I constantly have tabs for /lisg/ and /k/ open. While I don't hate people who don't like them, I think in most cases it stems from not being educated or being ignorant about them. Chloe is this way, she understands the power a firearm brings, but not the responsibility. She is simply uneducated about them and it is clear by the way she handles it (Stealing one, pointing it at Max, etc.) Nathan is the same in that he craves the power but doesn't understand and breaks every rule, which is what results in Chloe dying at the start of the game.

I understand the point, obviously. I guess I'd just argue a society as a whole (as, frankly, stupid humans just tend to be) will just never be properly "educated" on that responsibility. Especially when popular culture and media is full of glorifying and casualizing gun use.

Anyway, I don't actually want to go that route with this argument. It's a hot topic - always has been of course, but currently is especially. I have no strong beliefs on gun law, I'm just happy living a place where they are strict. But I can't say to have lived a place where they are not to tell the difference. Disregarding statistics and stuff, and my own moral confusion as to why you'd want to own a gun... I get they are sexy. I get they are fun. I built weapons for myself as a kid, all that. And I can also understand why certain states would defend the right to private gun ownership.

Dunno, I'm a little Max scaredy pants and legitimately find guns scary I think. No bully.
