Right guys, I'm in the mood. I'm gonna try a totally absurd run of SR.

5 Star.
No bonuses.
Only allowed generics and units which either are, or will become unfireable (for all practical purposes, in this run I think that's only Rance, Suzume, Isoroku and Kentarou).
Only allowed to defeat houses by vassaling.
Isoroku Route (the only other option is True).
Aside from hacking, ANY cheap tactics are allowed, although I'm not sure if I'll savescum or not and chances are that I'll speedhack.

Ashikaga now. I've got no choice but to capture Isoroku without Defeated Warrior Hunt or Light Attack. Fun times ahead, this run is gonna do wonders for my progress report... it'll even be nice to be able to attack enemies through my vassals so that they can't attack me back on my land.

Oh hey, good news - I triggered a glitch that I forgot about. If you vassal any of the Uesugi, Akashi or Ashikaga houses, after the second gourd has broke but before the Tenshi Sect has declared war, the gourd of that house (or houses, there's no harm in vassaling all three) will break at the end of the turn in which you vassaled them, but the event where the gourd is given to Xavier will never happen, meaning that the events leading up to Kou's kidnapping will be delayed.

So, long story short? I've not lost anything by Takeda's gourd breaking. Ashikaga's gourd was never delivered to Xavier.

Given that the game tells you that the gourd's broke,I like to think of it more ironically. They broke the gourd before it was delivered, so they replaced it with a fake and hoped that he wouldn't notice.

I'm gonna call it a night here. Pic related is the current situation, long story short. My defence is just about unbreakable (I saw no other choice, my units not only suck, but they're not even of a good type), but I've got no clue how I'm gonna do anything offensive. If I wasn't an idiot with my Prison earlier in the game, I'd have a Ninja Permit now, but otherwise I've yet to cap any of the other unit types for Permits.

It just looks like I'm gonna have to take down the Demon Army with an offensive force consisting of nothing but Permits, Isoroku, Rance, Suzume and Kenatrou... that mightn't actually be too tough, considering that I've only got to get as far as Senkan Nagato for the Isoroku route. Maybe I'll farm Takeda for some Tebaski or something...

I love how some battles are glitched like this (it's the all-out battle, and Rance's unit has been defeated but I won't be punished for it).

Also, yeah option B has worked out perfectly and I've won Senkan Nagato now... that's basically the game won.

I'm not sure if this is a flaw in the run or not, but it's a bit of a bitch when all of your Foots have Initial Time Advance, the time advance is actually pretty nice even when you're on the offensive, but due to the lack of Enhanced Initial Guard, whether or not Rance survives a battle is almost down to luck.

At least it's not savescumming when Rance dies

Challenge beat. I'll put my final team and shit in the next post.

I have to admit, the only things that really bothered me about the route were my insane early game luck both before and after I restarted from scratch (see: >>145385739 , >>145390235 and >>145395061 ) and that weird dungeon shit I had that was even going on during the Xavier fight (see >>145387341 & >>145389856 ).

As for the run, it wasn't hard at all - the fact that I allowed myself the use of any cheap tactics just made things easy:

As is the usual in 5SNB, Ashikaga becomes easy as soon as you've captured Isoroku. However, I'll risk saying that Ashikaga might've been almost unbeatable if I did this run in True and/or didn't allow myself Isoroku. It would've been nice if I was able to beat them before turn 30 though, it hurt to see Takeda's gourd pop, but the glitch still saved me (see >>145400172).

As for Iga, I never knew that they could declare war before the Tenshi Sect, whenever I had tested things in the past, I always found that the monk massacre was the trigger for the Tenshi Sect war and that Iga had the same trigger but required you to not be at war with anyone else, meaning that the Tenshi Sect would always declare war on you first and hence prevent Iga from declaring war. Either way, they weren't an issue. I later lost it, but all I had to do at the time was conquer Mikan (which is easy, it's got no castles) and then I could vassal Iga without issue. Asai-Asakura was also trivial.

Past that however... I had no choice, my units sucked too much to even vassal Uesugi (see >>145403092 ) and I had to play cheap for the reminder of the run (see >>145410285 ). Past that, the rest of the game then just consisted of me lazily stealing children from Akashi to get some good unit types... then it was just a matter of waiting for the route's easy Demon Army while using my unbeatable defence.

Wow... I didn't expect to fit all of that in one post.

It's kinda sad really, you can see from my roster that despite my unbreakable defence (for those who don't know, Initial Time Advance stacks, 5 people with it mean autowinning of 99% defences), my offence was shit, basically all I did was bring Isoroku, Rance, Suzume, the Battle Rating Up 2 Tactician (with Protection Paper) and 2 Initial Time Advance Foots to the fight, and then stuff like Initial Battle Rating usually won the final fights for me before the enemy could do anything to turn it around (they only had 15 turns, most of which were either mine, or wasted by their shit units who I often exploited the AI of), whenever I did lose, it was almost always because Rance died (I didn't have Enhanced Initial Guard on anyone), possibly due to this, I don't even remember savescumming in the run, heck - I've only got 7 saves on this run, and they're all landmarks like Isoroku's cap or the Demon Army's appearance.

In all honesty, the challenges I gave myself really didn't do much to increase the difficulty, all they took from me was the ability to have a really solid castle breaking team, which isn't necessary in the Isoroku route (Izumo and Senkan Nagata's last territories aren't castles). All I can really recommend for anyone who wishes to do this type of run in True, KTM or Demon King is to spend some time farming for units, I might even go as far to say that you should recruit every generic you capture, since no matter how bad they suck, you can use them for Initial Time Advance.

Anyway, the only routes I've not beat on 5SNB now are Ran and KTM. No idea if I'll ever do them. As many anons have said, I should just go play KR, which I do plan to do eventually, but I've currently got other priorities, I'm not even too sure why I've made the time to play SR.

All vassal only really does, even in the worst case scenario (namely, the True route and 'vassal only' meaning what it says on the tin, no conquers of unvassalables) is deny you good units and SAT, and with your prohibition of Natori and Kenshin in mind, not much has changed.

Otherwise, it all just depends on what restrictions you put in place. Heck, this could be a fun game, give me a list of restrictions, and I'll try to figure out a way to make it an easy run.

1) Grab Ikkyu.
2) Clear him, give him Battle Rating Up 1.
3) Take him to battle with Rance a lot, until he's got Battle Rating Up 2 and maybe Initial Battle Rating.
4) Congratulations, you've now got your main offensive force.
5) Mass recruit all the other units that you can, and make them into an unbreakable defence.
6) Don't worry too much about Permits, since the Demon Army's gonna steal them.
7) Progress as normal, maybe even head to Mouri before Uesugi.
8) Farm.
9) You win.

Damn, didn't work. I put the Daibanchou DLLs into the SR DLL folder, overwrote applicable DLLs with ones from the Daibanchou resolution patch, used the patch's exe, and edited the SR ini so it loaded all the new DLLs, but still only getting this.

Miko, no. I think Kenshin gets enough levels through dungeons. Be mindful that everyone has a level cap in the game. Only Rance and another guy, Kentarou, have it capped at 99.
Another useful character to dungeon grinding and bosses is Okita Nozomi.

Fuuka is pretty shit, just do her events and clear her, that's all.

Monks are terrible in dungeon combat since they deal almost no damage, but recovering action points is VERY useful in some cases, so don't bother grinding their level but do keep em around.

Kenshin is straight up one of the best units in the game, god-tier ability, pretty good stats and level cap. Use her whenever possible.
