You obviously haven't fucked around with the skills and perks enough yet.

I've managed to make an LBV build with 130+ armor and 40 dodge. I have another set I can use either a Ballistic Vest with 150+ armor and 25 dodge, or 170+ armor and 20 dodge.

There are plenty of options for "in between" armor as long as you still invest in the armor tree (without needing to go full ICTV) and the Crook deck, if you still want a little dodge. But other perk decks are viable if you are willing to sacrifice dodge because you just want the speed.

Hey /pdg/. I stopped playing and paying attention to Payday 2 when the microtransaction thing happened. Personally wasn't too mad but didn't want to support it. My friends on the otherhand have held a mighty grudge.

So I just spotted a video on youtube about new skill trees which look cool and that's got my interest. I also know from the news getting around that they are getting away with keys.

Can anyone break down the details of how exactly Overkill fucked up and how they've fixed it? So I can show stuff to my friends and maybe the lot of us can actually have fun robbing a bank again.

Overkill added microtransactions for gun skins and the key/crate system that's effectively gambling. I personally disagree with that and hate Valve for the shitshow their games have become where the games have become glorified gambling parlors and edick wank galleries with some shooting involved. So that pissed me off.

They also rebalanced (nerfed) guns.

Recently they removed microtransactions and rebalanced guns and mods and put in a completely new skill tier system and seem to have cleaned shit up. I haven't played for a year so I don't know exactly what's new new and what's old new. There are still menus for the keys and crates for people who bought them, but you can no longer buy them.

Starbreeze has bought 100% of the rights and Payday 3 is confirmed. Overkill cops that the microtransaction decision was 100% them, but Almir's being a skeevy weasel and saying they did it for the BENEFIT of the community. Almir being a skeevy weasel isn't new.

All the skills no longer have bullshit. As a tech you can carry 6 sentry guns. Silenced sentry guns are a thing. Mastermind recharges self-revive with med bags and it no longer requires assault rifle to trigger. Raising people from a distance works 100% rather than 75%. Lots of other similar tweaks.

Raven is bretty good, especially with flechettes. I run one with a gottagofast build and it works well, sniping with hipfire while sprinting.

Mosconi is fine but a lot of times the damage is overkill for most enemies considering what you trade off for it (constant reloads that can fuck you over if you aren't smart or lucky).

Haven't used the reinbeck since the update, but it's always been pretty shit. Wouldn't be surprised if it was still shit, but maybe they finally fixed it after almost 3 years.

I personally love the Raven with the long barrel and irons. I can keep firing it all day without having to reload, and I can use any quiet moment to slot a few more shells in without compromising on readiness. Sometimes I also throw the Shh! silencer on it as well to get bonus damage from specialized killing.

The Judge is my favourite secondary shotgun because with the same setup it can reach 250 damage. I can clear most bulldozers with a single "magazine" up close.

honestly, I've been dicking around getting the various achievements based on X kills with Y weapon, and I've learned a few things.
1: I am bad with sniper rifles
2: playing lower difficulties with weapons you suck with or are just otherwise bad weapons is actually a lot of fun

M16 DMR as primary, Swedish K as secondary. Silent killer and crits. M16 reaches 180+ dmg, Swedish K goes over 90. Only hipfire Swedish K up close and personal, and thats about it, utilize it like you would utilize a shotgun, and it becomes a great gun with 28 concealment. Both guns are pretty aestethically pleasing too, fits with Ex-Pres on lbv.
Don't have too many skills for the guns tho, only silent killer/crits and accuracy/stability ones. The reload speed's got minimal benefits, since you utilize the M16 like an m308 with a 30 round mag. And swedish K has 40 ammo mag baseline.

Honestly, I'm a little disappointed they just say "answer it" and a HUD says you get 4 per mission. Like there's a lot to still understand which it doesn't make clear
for example: you aren't done with the pager when you're done talking, or even when the response is done talking, but only when the circle fills, even if there's 5 seconds of complete silence.
That there's no inbuilt mechanism that keeps track of pagers used, so you have to count yourself, even over longer heists, and the only indication you get is a muffled response, which can vary about "next time, I'm sounding the alarm" which is also cut off entirely if you bag then immediately after you finish the pager, which you really, really should do.

the tutorial also sort of explains downs and custody, and how to get out of custody, but it doesn't explain the 3 downs and you're out, nor that, once again, there's nothing that counts for you aside from the screen being gray during bleedout, which if you're inspired or feign death, you might miss entirely. It doesn't explain that cloaker downs don't count, or that Taser downs don't except when they do. It doesn't explain anything about specials, actually.

If they were going to introduce more "basics" missions, I know I'd appreciate it. Otherwise there's a lot of info you just have to throw at newbies when you try to introduce your friends to the game.

Shit like bags having 75 detection have no indicator other than "Hi I am a bag, you can totally toss me in front of a guard, he won't notice". The equivalent indicator would be like "75 DETECTION REEEEEEEE" hovering over the bag silhouette whenever the bag is not in your possession.

Also noises made during stealth like killing people without the noise suppression skills, and sprinting. The fact that all detection revolves around your character model's head. And the civs' heads. and the guards' heads. Then there are loud mechanics like cop pathing patterns, flashbangs, smokescreens, damage falloff, cops' ability to snipe you across the map, Claoker and Taser downs not counting as part of your three downs. The usual shit you have to spend 20 minutes explaining to every pub in every loud heist ever because they never bother to learn this shit and loudly proclaim the game is unfair and difficult.

And maybe a tutorial heist where they force you into a doomed loud DW so you can spend 5 minutes of Bain telling you that you suck so that newbies would stop joining pub DWs.

I had to learn the 4-pager rule the hard way. Didn't really make the play experience fun. It's an arbitrary number but it makes (sort of) sense and you could live with if you didn't have to magically guess it while playing and end up arguing with pubs that no, that one time he got away with answering a fifth pager was not legit and that he's either mistaken, bullshitting, or cheating (or was in a cheater's lobby). I like that it tells you "YOU ONLY GET 4 PAGERS".

the back yard is incredibly easy to secure, and once you do, no one walks there. Every sewer grate in the level is now a safe stash, which will get the artifact in the front, as well as easily get everything inside the warehouse ground floor. The top floor, you just throw bags over the side.
With the added advantage of, once you strap it to the zipline, it's now secured, as opposed to the roof line, where after you zipline them, you have to then actually get them down from the roof and into the van.
