Generally he's the easiest to counter in the whole game, most characters have an answer to him in some way. He's just good at mowing down shitty new players. Being rooted to the spot is a huge downside, and if you're not in turret form you're already being forced into a disadvantage.

You're pretty much required to be rooted to the spot the whole game. If you're not in sentry form you're already being forced to compromise your game since he sucks outside of being a manual turret. Because of that you're incredibly easy to counter, and anyone with a brain knows how to either kill him in seconds or move a few inches to the side to break line of sight.

Mercy is probably my most used Support at this time, though. I like using her for straight healing- Lucio's effective but I feel like I get tunnel vision when trying to hop between Speed and Heal, where I end up hopping around in speed while my team is dying around me. I play Zen quite a bit too. Symmetra is my least used Support mostly because I never know where to put her turrets to be (or when I do, the enemy team always immediately knows where they are and blows them up).

Point 2 is hard. It's the second hardest attack map, the only worse chokepoint being Anubis. IMO Gibraltar is the best balance between fun attack and defense, feels completely equal from moment to moment.

I am in that 2%. I have over 45 hours played on her and you have to be able to hit your m2 unless you want to kill anyone. If you let get caught or let mei kill you it's purely your amount of skill in effect. Mei's aren't that common in games, if you do meet one it's a 45% chance that it's a one that can fuck your shit up.

The only truly broken class right now is McCree and once he can't fan combo a full health tank he'll be balanced. Widowmaker is fine and at worst her counter classes need a buff or her body shot damage needs to be reduced so Zen is allowed to exist in the same game as her.

No. It usually goes more along the lines of getting a team kill, everyone running to occupy the point with a lookout further back, and them respawning so close and you so far away they can just overwhelm you and keep throwing themselves mindlessly at you, even if they're not killing you they're contesting, and as soon as your team's gone they have time to completely knock the capture % back to 0, wasting the last 90 seconds of work. If you work together it isn't as bad as Anubis, but the problem is that the defense doesn't need to have any idea how to play to succeed most the time.
