Honestly it's probably Atlus JP that is most at fault for this. It is obvious they don't give a shit about Atlus USA and by extension non-JP fans. I think that if Atlus JP told USA "Let's try to make a worldwide release" Atlus USA would jump on it. Their NA office can't be enjoying getting shit on by all of Fatlus right now.

Even if it wasn't worldwide release but just as close as possible, if JP helped their overseas office more we'd probably get it this year. As it stands, this is almost as bad as if Atlus JP just handed the binary to XSeed and told them to hack it.

I remember reading an article about localizations years ago where Atlus USA was interviewed and they talked about how they've optimized and improved their processes with Atlus JP compared to how it used to be. How they now worked on localization alongside development and it helped get games out faster.

Then the fighting games (which admittedly had another company involved) came out extremely close together, so much so that Atlus USA said they had to adjust the script and voice work late in development because JP was making last minute tweaks.

Based on all that I thought they had mostly shed the old way of doing things and for a game like Persona 5 they would understand the need to release it fast. But I was mistaken, along with many others it seems.

It's probably just so it doesn't compete with the SMT game also coming out in the Fall. Persona is obviously more popular than SMT, but SMT was annouced first and they can't change the date around without making them look even more incompetent than they do already.

It's not like the JP release of P5 went smoothly. They had a sudden random delay last year that clearly took everyone by surprise and lead to a much touted Persona show having barely anything.
