Has anyone here played, and beaten IX on Steam? I'm on 'Disc 4', just got here. I'm having a devil of a time getting Zidane's Ultima Weapon from the ocean. I don't recall it being this annoying on the previous versions. I realize I have infinite dead peppers since the chocobos give them out for free, but I've been using a ton of them on this shimmering island dot to no avail.

You have two main protagonists in the series, you switch half way. But the game doesn't REALLY have a main character, there are good segments of the game where you are away from them. And almost all the characters have their moment to shine.

The Final Fantasy games were the base cases for PCSX2 development and will play fine on even toasters these days. Of course, if you want to upscale everything past native resolution then you'll need better hardware, but you can just put it in software mode and call it a day. My laptop on an i5 4200M and Intel HD 4600 can run X, X-2, and XII without problems.

I don't know which main protagonist killed the most people during the games (probably Lightning), but before the games' beginnings only Terra and Cecil have committed atrocities and out of those Cecil's are the more vile and numerous ones, since Terra is only famous for killing soldiers, while for instance Celes has torched a city state (That's what it's supposed to be according to S-E.) in the same game, which is brought up.

I don't think everything should revolve around the protagonist. It's one of the minor reasons I hate VIII. I think all party members should have their own things that are uniquely theirs. However I despise the main character not being at the center of the main plot. No matter how insignificant that main plot is in the grand scheme of the world. Therefore when they had X's story in front of them, they clearly should've made Yuna the controlled character. I'm not advocating increasing Tidus' acts and importance at all, since it would be very unnatural. In fact it's already unnatural in its present state, because he was made the protagonist and needed them after.

Granted it's a preference, but I fundamentally despise the concept of ensemble casts, because one among them will inevitably be slightly more important than the others no matter how ideally the importance is distributed, and that person will then be the MC at worst case scenario by being the first controlled character if need be. Now if the MC is under player choice like in BCVII then I can accept everyone being equal no matter how much more charismatic and story relevant by backstory some are. So yes, this peculiarity I do possess and we won't see eye to eye on it. It doesn't make sense to me, so I reject it. The cast can be important without it and should be.

In vanilla you got new lines as the story progressed, so you were kinda limited in what you could do for a long time. I'd suggest throwing a Target: Steal line on anyone who can steal at the top if you want to start collecting shit, then you can just turn off that line or turn off their gambits and manual them after since stealing can take some tries and that automates it.

Also your human input is faster than gambits at most things, including starting combat so don't run up to a group of monsters and wait for the gambits to take over, pull up your menu and open with something ranged. That could be life or death if you don't overlevel.

I like to have a Foe: 100% HP - Steal gambit on two characters with an attacking gambit underneath, and one character with just an attacking gambit. It generally ensures that they'll only steal once from an enemy, though it's not perfect.

If you want to be really pro put "Foe: HP <90% - Attack" above that and only use those two gambits on your party leader (the one that can steal.) There's no other use for MP until you get Quickenings, so go for it.

Honestly it's kind of semantics; I don't necessarily view (most of) what he did as wrong, but I think that Vayne is ultimately a bad person. In that sense I view him as a "villain."

I can't remember the specific dialogue, or if there is just one, but it felt to me that like Larsa, Vayne benefited from the mistakes of his brothers, and consequently realized how damaged/messed-up he was. But unlike Larsa, it was too late for him to completely change and so he channeled that energy into something that was arguably "good" instead of going full-dictator mode. To me that makes him, at best, an anti-hero.

Alright, looking at the Scathe Mote scene, I can say that, at least during this stage of development, the effect capacity is raised. In the PS2 versions of FFXII, every action other than Attack would have been stalled at max ATB bar, without entering "Action". In pic related, Larsa's Shock and Balthier's Dispel manage to enter Action despite Ashe using a Scathe Mote.

This makes the Zodiark fight a lot easier. When he is spamming Scathe, you can have someone cast Curaja, Renew, Arise, etc at the same time. Stalling was also an issue for the final fight of Trial Mode against all of the judges, so that should be easier as well. It also boosts the usefulness of Renew in general somewhat since casting it no longer stalls other abilities (although this really is only relevant for Monk since White Mage's Curaja is more than good enough).

Yeah, Monk got Renew with Zodiark. If you make a character with shit Magic a Monk, they can now heal better with a more usable Renew.

Aside from Renew, highest tier Black Magick like Flare, Scourge, Scathe and Arcane Magick like Ardor and Darkga should now all be way more usable, due to the lack of stalling.

Even supposing the first two implications are right, why would it be "too late" for him to change? These so called "wrong" behaviors aren't impulsive things or habits, they're things that require long periods of thought and planning, if he really wanted to change it wouldn't be difficult at all to catch himself somewhere along the line and stop. Not only is the premise illogical, but the argument is too.
